After seeing it mentioned a few times on my flist, and especially by
castalie someone who has tastes that are very similar to mine, I watched the Netflix movie The Old Guard and enjoyed it a lot. I can't honestly say it's a brilliant film, but it has characters I fell for and ended up rooting for very fast, some amazing ladies, awesome action scenes and made me think about the downsides of immortality. And of course, this. Mouse put it up there as one of the great romance scenes and I have to agree. It's Joe/Nicky and hit me right in the feels.
Otherwise, I've also been binge-watching Downton Abbey recently and just hit the end of season one. About 10 years behind everyone else but what else is new? The downstairs squabbling makes me tense though and I have the urge to punch some of the characters in the face often. I've also been binge-watching Bringing Up Bates which I'm sure no one else watches as it's a show about a family with 19 kids and it's ridiculous, they're religious, live lives very alien to mine, but are so damn nice to each other that it's incredibly soothing.
In the last week or so we've managed to get to the Wetlands at last, though sadly too late to see any of the baby birds, had a few walks at the beach, I did a solo dishwasher fix after the float got stuck again and got a surprise text saying don't forget my doctor's appointment for last Friday, which I had totally forgotten about so thank goodness for the text reminder. It was for my B12 and what was daft was it was the last vial and I told the nurse that, so she checked the date and it was out of date. Thankfully she had a spare but I wish they would prescribe fewer vials as I get six at a time atm and as I only get them injected once every three months the last one will always be out of date.
It was also weird in the doctors as they had none of the public lights on. They were on in the back where the offices were but in the waiting room and corridor none were on at all making it very dark and gloomy. It made for a strange atmosphere especially with anyone in the building having to wear a mask.
ETA: I uploaded this yesterday to share elsewhere, so have a photo of Murphy. He likes to sleep under the covers with us and this rather unflattering pose is what I captured when I woke up one morning.

Date: 2020-07-19 02:50 pm (UTC)Just in the few days I've been watching TOG has exploded on A03, kudos in the thousands for things a few k long. It's amazing.
It was so weird. Not helped that you need to knock on the window to be let in anyway, then when I was allowed in I had to sit in the dark waiting room with one other person before being called to the treatment room. At which point I made like a mole blinking like crazy due to going from the dark to somewhere brightly lit.

Date: 2020-07-19 04:29 pm (UTC)I’ve never seen Downton. I think it’s because it was always on when other stuff is but also mum doesn’t go much on that kind of stuff
Yay the wetlands and beach🖤 but that definitely sounds spooky
Awww cutie!

Date: 2020-07-19 04:45 pm (UTC)I'm sure there will be a follow-up, they seemed to be framing it that way.
Downton is a funny one in that it's always been there and talked about and yet until now I'd never seen an episode. Well, I saw the movie but that was designed to be self-contained. So I'm watching these people and events that are unfolding and remembering spoilers from the past but seeing them with fresh eyes.
It was very spooky, why they had the lights off I don't know.

That’s true. Here’s hoping you enjoy the rest of it!
I’d have got right out of there! I’ve seen too many horror films

Murphy's morning face made me lol.

Date: 2020-07-20 04:56 pm (UTC)You'd think the system would pick it up. It seems ridiculous that a vial will always be thrown away, and yet if I try to order some early I'll be told no.
Murphy's morning face sums up an early start for sure *g*

Date: 2020-07-20 07:39 pm (UTC)Sad that you didn't get to see any baby birds but yay for walks on the beach! And fixing the dishwasher again! (You're turning into a real home mechanic!)
That's so strange about your B12 vials. And even stranger that the lights wasn't on at the clinic. Sounds almost like the fuse for those areas had blowned and no-one knew how to fix it.
Awwww, Murphy's so cute all crushed up like that!

Date: 2020-07-25 05:24 pm (UTC)I was sad to miss all the baby birds. Apparently a lot had been eaten by seagulls too. I've heard theories that the gulls got hungry due to a lack of people out and about -- for example, the gulls love to eat chips at the beach, but I don't know if that's actually plausible, or just a lack of people at the wetlands to scare the gulls away.
Sounds almost like the fuse for those areas had blowned and no-one knew how to fix it.
I'm assuming it was something like that because it really was a weird atmosphere inside and really gloomy due to lack of windows in the inner section of the building.
I don't know how Murphy is comfy crushed like that, but he must be as he gets in the same place every night.
