Aug. 18th, 2020 03:09 pmI'm meeting Kayleigh and Chris for sibs dinner later, only actual sibs this time as James and Lucy are both working and my brother's partner never comes to these meetups. It took me nearly an hour yesterday to actually get a booking anywhere as everywhere was full of people taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme, which I don't blame them for as that's what we wanted too, but it wasn't to be. At one point it was looking like we'd have to meet at McDonald's, but then I found a local pub that does pretty nice food but isn't taking part in the scheme, so they had plenty of tables available. I'm looking forward to it, I haven't seen my brother since before lock up, so we'll have a lot to catch up on.
I saw on Insta that the new cat cafe in Durham is opening today. I was worried it had folded as last time we were in Durham it looked abandoned, but no, they must have been working away behind the boarded-up windows. It looks like they're going to have a handful of pedigree cats in the cafe with rotating foster cats that will be available for adoption, unlike Mog where all the cats are rescues that stay in the shop full time
More good news, there's a new Musketeer dragon story to read. The writer is prolific but posts each story in parts, usually two or three a week but I quickly learned not to read as WIPs as I would get impatient coming to the end of a part, especially when they ended on a cliffhanger. Typically, each story is four parts, but the last one was nine, that led to a lot of impatient waiting I'll tell you.
I saved the very pretty icon I'm using on DW from this post. I do like a twinkling star.

Date: 2020-08-18 03:46 pm (UTC)I was so pleased to see the cat cafe was still going ahead. I was sure it was going to be another casualty of COVID.

Date: 2020-08-18 02:34 pm (UTC)Enjoy your evening with your sibs! I'm glad you ended up finding a decent place to go. And hooray for the cat café not being closed! Their concept with a couple of "house cats" as well as fostered cats sounds like a lovely idea.

Date: 2020-08-18 03:45 pm (UTC)I'm looking forward to tonight, and a bonus Kayleigh just messaged to say she'd pick me up as it's raining. I was going to walk otherwise, but it is a bit wet out there.
I like the concept of house cats and fostered cats. Hopefully lots will go to their forever home.

Date: 2020-08-18 04:49 pm (UTC)Awww, glad your Durham cat cafe is still opening.
Ooohhh, prolific writer still writing in your fandom? Score! Even if you have to wait impatiently.

Date: 2020-08-18 04:54 pm (UTC)I was so happy to see it was opening. So many businesses have closed recently so I didn't hold up hope for a new one. But, they've made it work somehow.
I know! It's such great news and they're a really good writer who writes what I want to read. I'll endure WIPs for that, especially as the parts are posted so regularly.

Date: 2020-08-18 04:56 pm (UTC)And good luck to Kayleigh and her car and if the dinner happens despite all the trouble.
Writes what you want to read??? Damn! That is a rarity!

Date: 2020-08-18 05:00 pm (UTC)I know! So much h/c, well written and while it's gen I don't mind that at all for that fandom.
And ha! Kay has just arrived, so I'm off :D

Date: 2020-08-19 01:02 am (UTC)Having some cats available for adoption sounds very strategic. I'm sure some visitors will fall in love and want to bring them home.
I don't mind reading WIPs if the individual parts are written in such a way as to be satisfying in themselves. But deliberate cliffhangers are very frustrating!

Date: 2020-08-19 05:12 am (UTC)I agree it is a good strategy, the more cats that can be adopted the better.
Deliberate cliffhangers are the worst! Plus, for me, I'll always want people to post a story in one go if it's finished instead of in parts. I get that parts make for more comments and maybe kudos, but I do think it's a shame one long story seems to be something on a decline.

Date: 2020-08-21 03:48 pm (UTC)I know it's because they want people to keep reading but I could do without the cliffhangers. The writer I'm following is good enough not to need them, and to be honest, I wish they'd just post each story in one part as they're obviously finished. But I guess that's not the trend these days.
It is pretty, I was very taken by the twinking stars.
