Aug. 20th, 2020 04:31 pmMy brother went and got our car yesterday. When he came to the house to say he was back he asked if we'd seen the notices that had been attached to all of the lampposts, notices saying that all the roads on the estate were going to be torn up and replaced today so no cars could be parked on them from 7 am this morning. And no, no we had not, the signs hadn't been there when I went to the doctor's in the morning and talking to neighbours, they'd been put up around 6 pm, which, thanks for the whole thirteen hours notice Sunderland council.
Considering there's only one road onto the estate I was unsure if we'd be able to get off it today, but after waiting a while as the mini steamroller flattened the fresh tarmac we could bump off the grass where Clem had been parked.
And, our bin never got emptied because the bin men came really early due to the resurfacing. That caught out our neighbour too so we both called in hoping for them to come back out, which they said they will, but could be any time in the next 48 hours.
We wouldn't have gone out today at all but James had to go for a COVID test. Not that he thinks he has it just with him having a temperature his work wants every base covered. The whole thing was pretty easy, he got a spot at a drive-in centre close to where we live and we were in and out within half an hour.
Hadn't been home long when Corey phoned. He's moving next Monday so count down to year five of moving his boxes of belongings. Everyone has left his shared house now apart from him, so he's got the pick of the kitchen equipment as most people have just left it behind, though as he said, he really doesn't need 30 plates.
He's working really long hours right now, Mon, Tues, Wed at one pub that's known for pie, mash and liqueur so is getting a load of business on eat out to help out days, and then until late at night on Friday and Saturdays at a different pub. But like he said, better take all the hours available now in case local lockdowns happen in the future.
I'm still working my way through Downton and have just hit one of the very sad episodes. I know spoilers, it's impossible not to as even if I didn't watch live people would always talk about the show. But knowing and seeing is different :(
So, as a cheer up, look at this ball of adorable fluff at The Pawsome Cat Cafe in Durham. Simon, I will be coming to see you asap.

Date: 2020-08-20 08:33 pm (UTC)Oh man, the trial. I was hoping it would come to an end soon, but from your comment, that's not going to be the case.
I certainly hit you up for that fic link when I'm done. It sounds very interesting.

*boggles* Are you supposed to drink liqueur with pie and mash?!! Still, it's good to hear he's got plenty of work. Wish him good luck with the move from me.
Awwwww, what an adorable little fluffball!! Brit kittens are the cutest!!

Date: 2020-08-20 08:29 pm (UTC)Your comment made me look up what liqueur actually is, and I didn't get the spelling right, it's actually liquor and apparently can mean quite a few sauces, including eel which doesn't sound nice at all. The pub Corey works at serves red wine liquor as one of the options option, which I'm a bit dubious about too, tbh.
I'll pass on your good luck wishes :)
He's adorable! I'm looking forward to going to see him.

Date: 2020-08-21 03:51 pm (UTC)I still can't believe I'm watching Downton now after ignoring it for so long when it was playing live. But, it really does contain a lot of melodrama at times, also, a lot of very beautiful dresses and backgrounds.
