Sep. 7th, 2020 11:11 amJames had his latest test today, and it was good news, it's kidney stones.
Which okay, I know isn't all good as they're horrible and painful, but it could have been so much worse.
I have to admit, the doctor and hospital have been fantastic with him, once he was on the two-week pathway everything got arranged really well and fast. I'm not going to lie, him being on the pathway was terrifying as the doctor has to spell out that blood in the urine and pain could signify very sinister things, so the last week or so hasn't been the best for either of us.
After the cannula issue of last week, James was actually phoned the next day and told a new appointment had been made for the day after, where he'd go to a special unit to get the cannula then on to the scan a few hours later. And everything went smoothly and exactly to plan, I was even allowed to stay with him despite a ban on visitors at the hospital atm due to me being his carer. Well most of the time, I obviously couldn't stay when the scan was going on.
Then today he had another procedure/test first thing, one he very much hasn't been looking forward to, but that went well too and because he was on the pathway he was given the results straight after. Results being, he's got a bladder full of debris from a stone that's already passed and two more in his left kidney that have to make their way down on their own. So yeah, not nice and he's not feeling that great still, but man, not bladder or prostate or other kinds of cancer we were warned it could be.
So now we're home before lunchtime and the house is clean and tidy as I woke at 4 am and just couldn't get back to sleep so had all the house jobs done before breakfast. So I suspect I'll be mainlining coffee while binge-watching more Downton this afternoon.
And staying on the good news theme. Now she's announced it on FB I can also say that Kayleigh's getting married next month. Only a tiny ceremony for legal reasons, with me and Lucy's mam as witnesses. My baby sister is all grown up, I can hardly believe it.

Date: 2020-09-07 12:59 pm (UTC)I was surprised when she said they wanted to get married. You know she's had those two long term relationships and so many other short time ones I can't keep count. But, Lucy does seem to be the one. It helps that they're both at the same life stages, which wasn't the case with Shauna and Kay.

Date: 2020-09-07 04:01 pm (UTC)The wedding next month is going to be so small and understated, which is what they both wanted right now. When things are more settled hopefully they can have a big party with all their family and friends.

Date: 2020-09-25 04:18 pm (UTC)It was such great news for the two of them. It's not the wedding they'd planned, but it'll still be a happy occasions. Now we just have to hope weddings don't get banned completely due to the changing lock downs.

Date: 2020-11-14 04:00 pm (UTC)Oh man yeah, so much better. It's only recently, when he's so much better, that I've realised just how heavy the burden of not knowing was. I'm so glad we're now well past that.
but when my mom was in the university hospital (which was just, so, so good) they had a specialized "Vein Team" made up of nurses and techs who could get the stick into any vein on the first try, no matter how bad the patient's veins were (and Mom's were terrible by this point, after nearly a decade of chemo and IVs and ports and injections.) They were the best and hearing that James kinda has his own version made me smile (in that super-black-humor way that goes along with chronic illness caretaking, ♥)
I'm so thankful for people who are part of things like the vein team. They're so needed and often work magic. It would have been the same for your mom, but I hate seeing people try to get blood from James and causing nothing but pain. I mean, it's not their fault, but there comes a point where you need a load of experience and skill to deal with people that are away from the 'norm'.

And thankfully they're finally gone and hopefully won't come back.
