Dec. 12th, 2020 04:04 pmWe're off to Ignite tonight, a Christmas light trail at a localish National Trust place. It was booked a while back and I wasn't sure if it would actually go ahead when the NE got put into tier 3, which means no meeting up anywhere indoors or outdoors unless in household bubbles, but it is going ahead so that's good. As it's the only Christmas event we'll be attending this year I hope they're selling mulled wine. It's nothing I drink usually, but I do love a mulled wine when walking through York Christmas market, which is somewhere we've visited for years now but of course, couldn't this year.
To be honest, I was in two minds about going. It's cold, it's wet and it's been a day with the socket blowing in the kitchen again. But, I know once I'm there I'll enjoy it so I need to get out my big coat, find my hat and get going in a few hours.
I was going to deliver the cards to the estate neighbours today, but see cold and wet. Some of you may remember how James wrote out 50 plus of the things last year, well, this year I told him to cut down as we really didn't need to send a card to the house with the dog in the window that makes us laugh, or people we talked to once in ten years. So he did cut down... to 30 cards. Which is probably about right in terms of neighbour friends and people we'll pass the time of day with for a few minutes when we see them out and about.
I watched the latest version of The Secret Garden two nights ago and enjoyed it well enough. The trailer was playing before all the Odeons had to shut down, and I would have much preferred to see it at the cinema. But, it was good enough at home too, cosy under a blanket and drinking hot chocolate.
It's already dark here. It's going to be weird setting out for an evening event. But, lights and flames, maybe even a distant selfie with Santa. And on that note, I must find my hat and gloves.

Date: 2020-12-13 11:44 am (UTC)I know, so many! But, as much as I tease, it's nice to give them out.

Date: 2020-12-12 05:19 pm (UTC)Out east they do a drive-through light show at Smith Point. I know my brother and the SiL have taken the kids in years past.
COme on! How can you deny James the excitement of delivering a card to the cat in the window folks!?! That's just cruel. *g*

Date: 2020-12-13 11:43 am (UTC)But it was very busy, so the actual walk was more like a shuffle at times. I suspect James would have much preferred a drive-through. But, we also had to park and ride so he had the indignity of going on a bus too *g*
Ahahahaha, I know right? He has such a hard life. I do think the thought of actually delivering the cards helped him cut down a little.

Date: 2020-12-12 08:38 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear about the kitchen socket. I hope it can get fixed with minimal hassle.

Date: 2020-12-13 11:40 am (UTC)I suspect the whole of the kitchen needs rewiring, but until we have the money for that it's just changing things as they go wrong. At least getting someone in to change the socket is pretty easy and not mega expensive.

Date: 2020-12-13 11:10 am (UTC)It is nice to give out cards, and I think this year that's extra true. Tramping about delivering them is less fun! I did a handful yesterday, and out of six cards, *THREE* houses did not have a letterbox! One of them had put a plastic bin out with the word Mailbox taped onto it, but what the heck does the postman do for the other two? Grrrr.

Date: 2020-12-13 11:35 am (UTC)Yeah, I have to agree, delivering cards isn't fun, especially in cold, wet and grey weather.
No mailbox at all is weird. I don't know if you have them where you live but in my area, a trend is to put huge bows on the front doors, so the doors look like they're gift wrapped. Which is fair enough, but the bottom ribbon tends to go over the mailbox so the postmen have been complaining.
