Snowflake Challenge Day 12
Jan. 23rd, 2021 02:20 pmChallenge #12
In your own space, resurrect an old meme. Have fun with it! Which is the goofiest meme you can think of? Put on your party hat and be silly!! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I wasn't sure which one to do from the list, and played a bit, apparently my SciFi character is Worf and I write like Arthur Clarke, no doubt because I plugged in Musketeers in Space for the example. I also looked for one I remembered, what trope are you, and got fannish fluff, so obviously the meme was defective.
But then I got an email from Letterboxd, the site where I log films watched and decided to go for the Kleenex moment and talk about films for a bit.
Kleenex Moment - Pick the top five movies that make you cry, and tell us what the Kleenex Moment is (when do you reliably reach for the hankies).
With the caveat that some of these were very situational and other times, I may not cry at all while watching, but these times stand out.
When Jack slips off the board in Titanic. I was barely holding it together then managed to calm down, and then Rose died and Jack is waiting for her at the top of the stairs and everyone is clapping and looking at it logically I can think, but why doesn't she go to her husband? But one time I watched that and sobbed. In my defence Corey was a toddler, we'd just gone home from an excellent two weeks holiday and I was exhausted. But man, so many tears.
When King Kong was shot from the top of the tower. Again, I was very young, just a kidlet then as this was the black and white version. All I can remember are sobbing snotty tears and my dad laughing and saying it was just a gorilla. Not helping, dad!
On that theme, when I was a young teen my family used to enjoy watching Project X. Why I don't know as that film is traumatising. Goliath's death was just wrong, he saved everyone and got radiated for his troubles and it shows his hand flopping down and why did we keep watching that? I don't understand.
About a million times in A Dogs Purpose and A Dogs Journey. Why I went to see the second one when the first one broke me I don't know, but I did.
Mamma Mia 2. People will know that I love the cinema and go often -- when it's open any way. After mam died Mamma Mia 2 was the first film we went to see after that and I thought I was going to go see something light-hearted. What I got was a film that dealt with the main character dealing with the recent death of her mam. It got to the part where a song was sung about mothers and daughters and I was gone. I sat there barely able to breathe with tears rolling down my face and yeah. I couldn't tell you if that one is totally situational as I've vowed to never watch it again.
I think what this shows me is, I need to stop watching films that feature animals as they often make me cry.
In a previous Snowflake challenge
kingstoken offered to make icons, and I asked for a new Hawkeye, either movie or comic, and I got these two beauties, aren't they great?

Oh, it would have been nice to have an icon meme in the Snowflake list. I could have looked for an old one to use if I'd thought about it before.
Thanks also to
misbegotten for the fun postcard and
pensnest for indulging my bath habits. You're both great ♥
Royal Mail must be bringing in extras to try and catch up with the mail as I got a load all at once again, but what made me laugh was the man delivering and handing over the parcels called me Madam. I mean, it's polite and all but it's not something I expect to hear.

Date: 2021-01-23 02:54 pm (UTC)Those icons are cool aren't they! I guess if you have an icon meme you could do another post and start one!
I'm far more likely to get emotional when animals are involved. *Hugs* about Mamma Mia, that is so understandable!
Thank you for taking part :)

Date: 2021-01-24 03:50 pm (UTC)They're excellent icons, I was thrilled to get them.
Thank you <3
But yeah, animal films always get me. I should stop watching them really.

Date: 2021-01-23 04:10 pm (UTC)I’ve not actually seen King Kong. I keep meaning to watch the recent one but whenever it’s on tv the timing is off

The Hawkeye icon reminded Me of this which I saw on twitter

Date: 2021-01-24 03:47 pm (UTC)I had no idea the mam would be gone. I still like parts of the film and love most of the music. But yeah, couldn't watch it again.
That Clint and Bucky comic is fabulous!

Yay!

Date: 2021-01-23 10:51 pm (UTC)Royal Mail are under so much pressure at the moment - we're getting post about twice a week at the moment, and mostly pretty late evening, and I'm still getting a trickle of messages from people who are just now getting Christmas cards posted in good time (mail from here to south / west London seems to have been a lot slower than international or up to you!)

Date: 2021-01-24 03:14 pm (UTC)I feel for people working for Royal Mail. It must be a daunting task to get everything delivered on time, and like you, we're still at about two or three deliveries a week at best.
The mail survey I'm doing is interesting because I have to note when I get letters sent to me containing computer tracking chips, and often the people running the survey query the fact the letters get to our local depot but then don't get delivered to my house until three days later. The service must be on its knees right now.

Date: 2021-01-24 12:33 am (UTC)King Kong and Titanic are tear worthy; the music swells and the tragic events happen and there go the weepy eyes ...

Date: 2021-01-24 03:07 pm (UTC)Yep, the music really adds to the tragic events. The pull at our heartstrings like masters.

Date: 2021-01-24 01:02 am (UTC)And animal death is terrible too. We had to read Where the Red Fern Grows in middle school and I cried so much.

Date: 2021-01-24 09:07 am (UTC)Animal death is horrible. I've cried often about in books too. It's how I'm always surprised Watership Down is so popular, because man, that's a heart-tugger.

Date: 2021-01-26 07:24 am (UTC)Ahahah, Madam Terri just sounds wrong. I felt a thousand years old when he said it.

Date: 2021-01-26 01:23 pm (UTC)I should've walked out the second Ben Affleck started in with his animal cracker schtick. God, I wish I had. :)

Date: 2021-01-27 11:39 am (UTC)It was horrible when it happened in the theatre too, as walking out at that point seemed impossible, like everyone would have been looking.
