I'm passing on the last Snowflake challenge as I can never think of fandom resources. I mean, I use them, but can never remember any when asked.
The one for today looks like it'll need thought too, so maybe tomorrow.
I got two excellent New Year cards from
romantical and
solariana, so thank you very much to both of you. They were an excellent surprise.
Other than that very little has been going on. I had a nice long telephone conversation with Corey, and he ended up telling me about the new recipes he's been trying because obviously, he's done nothing out of his flat either. He suspects he won't be back at work for months yet, so I really hope the furlough scheme gets extended again.
James' work is in crisis in terms of people being off. He's been doing lateral flow tests for a while now but now they have to get actual tests on a weekly basis too and they've upped every precautionary measure. In fact today he was told he couldn't use his fan due to the breeze blowing outwards, which is understandable, but he needs it due to being unable to regulate his temperature well. In the end, they moved his desk next to a window so hopefully, that will work. There was also a mention of potential home working now he doesn't need to triage. Some of you may remember they put in a high-speed phone line into our house years ago when home working was on the table then, but then they scrapped the idea. Now they're starting to rethink that for the shielding members of staff, and while that doesn't include James he could be put on the list of people able to homework. It's strange to think about, we have a spare bedroom, obviously, it would be safer especially now when the figures in the UK are as horrific as they are right now, but if it ever does happen, it would be a huge change.
Those figures mean I totally understand why the lockdown has been extended into March, but man, February is Corey's birthday, my birthday. Last year was the last time we as an extended family got together for a night out on Corey's birthday, something we've done since he was born. I knew we probably wouldn't get to see him this year, and knew for certain that no way could a family gathering happen. But to see it officially. Ouch.
I've been on a nostalgia kick lately, reading
kat_lair's Ryan/Spencer fic, because bff Panic babies will always be my Panic pairing of choice, and also, even older nostalgia having mentioned Sentinel Angst and dues in
starwatcher's journal. If you don't know, Sentinel Angst was a mailing list and to stay on it and read the messages every few months you had to write dues, which were an angsty ficlet set in The Sentinel universe. I was a very new writer then and I don't think I'd want to reread those ficlets now, but it was an excellent place to spread my wings at the time. I know Starwatcher was on there,
castalie too, but anyone else? I really do think that ML and The Sentinel fandom amped up my love of h/c. I mean, obviously, it was always there, but to find that group, my people who revelled in angst and h/c. Well, that's when the h/c love took roots.

Date: 2021-01-28 01:49 pm (UTC)It would be a good thing in many ways, obviously safer and he would save up to an hour a day for the commute. The only downside I can see is the lack of seeing people, as he likes to have a chat.
Yeah, when we finally can meet up as a family again we'll have so many belated celebrations to get through. I can imagine a long table studded with cakes all along it.

Date: 2021-01-28 01:53 pm (UTC)I think we'll have to have a belated celebration when we can. Coming up to the anniversary of the last time we got together is such a hard reminder that it's nearly been a year since the first lockdown.

Ah, ML... talk about a trip down memory lane!

Date: 2021-01-28 06:28 pm (UTC)The figures everywhere right now are terrifying.` I've called our government a lot because damn, they've made some bad mistakes. But, this time I appreciate that Boris has stated we will stay in lockdown, gave a potential time for it may be easing a little while stressing that will only happen if the figures start to drop a lot.
Lockdowns suck, there's no getting past that, but they are needed. I really hope your government make some changes soon. Because I worry for you and all my friends, even if mostly you're safe at home.
Sometimes ML feel like another world. But I'm so glad I got my fannish beginnings on them, that way I can hide my terrible first efforts *g*

Date: 2021-01-29 03:47 pm (UTC)The lockdown is so hard on everyone. I still find it hard to comprehend that it's a worldwide thing. All those people having to struggle to stay safe.
