I'm passing on the last Snowflake challenge as I can never think of fandom resources. I mean, I use them, but can never remember any when asked.

The one for today looks like it'll need thought too, so maybe tomorrow.

I got two excellent New Year cards from [personal profile] romantical and [livejournal.com profile] solariana, so thank you very much to both of you. They were an excellent surprise.

Other than that very little has been going on. I had a nice long telephone conversation with Corey, and he ended up telling me about the new recipes he's been trying because obviously, he's done nothing out of his flat either. He suspects he won't be back at work for months yet, so I really hope the furlough scheme gets extended again.

James' work is in crisis in terms of people being off. He's been doing lateral flow tests for a while now but now they have to get actual tests on a weekly basis too and they've upped every precautionary measure. In fact today he was told he couldn't use his fan due to the breeze blowing outwards, which is understandable, but he needs it due to being unable to regulate his temperature well. In the end, they moved his desk next to a window so hopefully, that will work. There was also a mention of potential home working now he doesn't need to triage. Some of you may remember they put in a high-speed phone line into our house years ago when home working was on the table then, but then they scrapped the idea. Now they're starting to rethink that for the shielding members of staff, and while that doesn't include James he could be put on the list of people able to homework. It's strange to think about, we have a spare bedroom, obviously, it would be safer especially now when the figures in the UK are as horrific as they are right now, but if it ever does happen, it would be a huge change.

Those figures mean I totally understand why the lockdown has been extended into March, but man, February is Corey's birthday, my birthday. Last year was the last time we as an extended family got together for a night out on Corey's birthday, something we've done since he was born. I knew we probably wouldn't get to see him this year, and knew for certain that no way could a family gathering happen. But to see it officially. Ouch.

I've been on a nostalgia kick lately, reading [personal profile] kat_lair's Ryan/Spencer fic, because bff Panic babies will always be my Panic pairing of choice, and also, even older nostalgia having mentioned Sentinel Angst and dues in [personal profile] starwatcher's journal. If you don't know, Sentinel Angst was a mailing list and to stay on it and read the messages every few months you had to write dues, which were an angsty ficlet set in The Sentinel universe. I was a very new writer then and I don't think I'd want to reread those ficlets now, but it was an excellent place to spread my wings at the time. I know Starwatcher was on there, [personal profile] castalie too, but anyone else? I really do think that ML and The Sentinel fandom amped up my love of h/c. I mean, obviously, it was always there, but to find that group, my people who revelled in angst and h/c. Well, that's when the h/c love took roots.

I hope things work out for James - possibly working from home would be a good thing? it would obviously change our daily routines, but the commute would be fantastically short! *g*

sorry there's no birthday celebrations on the horizon; it's hard not to see people for so long

Working from home can definitely be safer if they can swing it. I had never done that full-time before, but I've gotten quite comfortable with it by now and find it has some advantages over being in the office. Either way, I wish James and his co-workers all wellness and safety!

And each new thing we have to give up IS a new loss, no matter how predictable. I hope you get to have some kind of celebration, in whatever form is possible. <3

At least your government has instituted a new lockdown; here they keep telling us (officially I mean) that the situation is getting worse, than the curfew isn't enough and thus isn't helping and yet, they're not making any changes! What's the point of telling us it's getting worse if no new measures are being taken?

Sorry for the rant but this is so frustrating.

Ah, ML... talk about a trip down memory lane!

Such cute cards! I got mine from romantical today, it's full of adorable otter stickers!

That's so sad you're not going to be able to do the usual night-out thing on Corey's birthday! I feel so sorry for you.
