It's still raining today, I think I may be developing webbed feet and the toilet roof is still leaking. However, there's nothing I need to do today apart from cleaning the litter trays, so after that I see an afternoon of tv and being online. Just like the 829978810 afternoons before this.
February is about things I love
It's wet, it's cold, so again, it's the perfect time to think about something nice, so I'm saying, the Canary Islands.
I only flew for the first time three years ago, our first ever holiday abroad was to Gran Canaria, then the next year we went to Lanzarote, and I fell in love with the islands. Of course, I'm saying that without having been anywhere else so am talking about a very limited exposure in terms of travelling, but still, the Canaries are great.
I felt at peace in both places, neither were busy as we'd deliberately kept away from areas where the younger holiday makers tended to go. I loved the sunshine and the fact both places we were in beach side hotels and as a bonus, so many feral cats close by. I loved using the few words of Spanish I'd learned and getting to see wild dolphins and eating fresh watermelon on the beach. Everything was so new and different and while both holidays had not so good points, on the whole I loved it there.
On the first holiday the barman based at our hotel used to stick cocktail umbrellas in my hair, I think my ponytail must shout, decorate me or something. We both also enjoyed the cocktails the umbrellas came from, I don't really drink at home, but on holiday, sitting in the sunshine or in the evening, cocktails hit the spot nicely.
Obviously we didn't go on holiday last year, and won't this year, but as long as things are much better by then, hopefully next year we'll be heading off again because I'd love to eventually stay on all the islands. Or who knows, we may branch out and go somewhere totally new. I mean, the world is a huge place and we've also seen a tiny part of it.

I love the below photo. We'd arrived at Gran Canaria the night before so it was dark when we got to the hotel. The next day we woke up and it was so beautifully sunny and it was the first time we'd ever been abroad and I was paddling in the warm sea and everything felt amazing and new and just perfect.

The photo of James under those assymetric arches is so much fun and the last one of you is just wonderful. You look so, so happy in it.
PS Your hair is totally made for decorating! *points towards icon*

I was ridiculously happy in my photo. I never thought I'd ever go abroad so to be standing in the warm sea was amazing.
Ha yes. The icon really shows off my hair nicely :D

Date: 2021-02-11 01:02 pm (UTC)Those sculptures were on the main path to the hotel. I remember stalking Trip Adviser before going and saw so many photos of people standing under them or just shown on their own. So, when we arrived and saw the sculptures it was a sort of, wow moment.
