Today includes waiting for the electrician. His first slot was between 10 and 2. It's now between 1 and 5, so goodness knows when he'll turn up.

Not that I need to go anywhere, which is good as it's grey and has been constantly heavy raining since I woke up. It just feels like a lazy day where all I want to do is read or watch TV. Which I will probably do this afternoon as expecting the electrician early I got all the house stuff done first thing, including getting the stuff together for tomato sauce and meatballs ( veggie for me, pork for James ) which I can just shove in the oven later so they'll be ready for tea.

Yesterday I did battle with the ivy on the fence. It was getting out of hand and bushing out sideways, which was an issue as the trees on the other side of the path are overhanging causing a narrower space for people to walk. I mean, it wasn't a tunnel or anything but the ivy needed cutting back for sure. Nearly ten big bin bags of the stuff later, and with arms looking like I'd been fighting a wildcat, I'd cut it right back, though still need to get the step ladders out so I can cut down the top.

It took a while as we lent the in-laws our long-handled loppers so I only had secateurs to work with, but I got there. And now I just have to work out what to do with the bags. I suspect it'll be a case of taking two bags at a time to the tip and covering them with a tarp on the way there as even brushing against the stuff brings James out in welts.

It was announced yesterday that in England all restrictions in terms of COVID will end on the 19th of July, the so-called 'freedom day'. Mask use won't be enforced, no social distancing anywhere, pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas etc can work to capacity again. Night clubs will reopen etc. On one hand, it's good for the hospitality industry, and I'm very glad I'll be able to actually go into the vets again.

But it also seems like a step that's happening too soon considering the skyrocketing numbers due to the Delta variant. Right now the NE has some of the highest numbers of infections in the whole of England, so while I'm not afraid to be out and about, and do go out often, I won't be stopping the mask-wearing, hand sanitising and trying to create my own social distance anytime soon.

And ha, the electrician has just been and is now finished and gone. It was funny because he had a very broad Liverpudlian accent, and of course he would have thought mine was just as broad so on occasions it took us a moment to figure out what the other was saying.

I'm with you on the mask-wearing, etc. It seems such a simple and easy thing, to keep the mask on indoors, and to social distance, and we're all so used to it - why is the government so keen that we give up these precautions? I guess a society in which we don't trust one another is probably what they are aiming for. Grumph.

I hope he didn’t come too late so you were able to have a relax. It’s so annoying when people like that change times

Yay for winning the Ivy battle, that sounds like it was so much

It sounds like an absurd decision and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were forced to backtrack

Oh nice!

Good to hear the electrician has now done his job! (Imagining your mutual incomprehension made me giggle :-)

I hope you'd a nice day indoors while it rained!

Go you! Ivy's terribly tenacious so I'm full of admiration for your feat!

Ten bags of ivy! Wow. That sounds like a battle indeed. But good for you.

I am very much with you on continuing to wear masks. I just can't believe it's truly safe to drop them completely yet.
