Aug. 8th, 2021 03:19 pmWe had to take Milo to the emergency vet this morning. One minute he was fine, the next he was yowling and unable to put weight on one of his back legs.
Of course, being a Sunday it meant a hefty emergency visit fee, with one quote of £175 and that was without any med or test costs. But, he needed to be seen so off we went, and amazingly, when we got there the vet was attached to a branch of the PDSA. Never expecting it would work out, James asked about who qualified to use the PDSA and after a phone call, we were told because James gets PIP they could see us. So, a consultation cost of £50 and what turned out to be a few pounds for painkillers.
Milo still can't weight bear. The vet said worst-case scenario, due to his age, he has a blood clot that's cut off the feeling in his leg, but, his paw had a pulse and was nice and warm. So, it could just be soft tissue damage. So he's had painkillers and an anti-inflammatory and see how he goes.
He managed to get halfway up the stairs earlier, but is really unsteady on his feet so we're trying to keep him downstairs.
Now to decide what to do tomorrow. It'll be much cheaper to take him to the local branch of the PDSA if needed, but, the vets at Simply Cats know him and will let us put treatment on the ongoing payment plan we have going. He also has bare basics insurance which should cover this meaning we'll get some money back. Of course, that insurance didn't apply today and every emergency vet I looked at needed paying upfront, which is why I was relieved when the PDSA was an option.
Whatever happens tomorrow will have to happen in the morning as it's James' uncle's funeral in the afternoon.
No wonder I'm mainlining coffee today.

Date: 2021-08-08 04:18 pm (UTC)Beau was on pain meds (anti-inflammatory basically) for a good portion of his life after he tore his ACL and we managed to find a dose that let him enjoy life without damaging his liver (or kidney? one of those). Perhaps you can do that for Milo?
