I had such a good time at the theatre on Friday.
It was my second time seeing Rocky Horror and after the first, we'd planned on dressing up, but time got away with us and it sadly just didn't happen. But my SiL decided afterwards that next time she'd be Columbia, I could be Magenta and James would be Frank. So there you go.
Covid safety was good, and led to the surreal sight of a group of Frank's all standing in an alley outside of the theatre trying to download the NHS app to prove their double vaccinated status, though why they didn't do so before I don't know as it was clearly stressed on the tickets that no proof, no entry.
In my limited experience, the narrator can make a big difference to the feel of the show. The last time was Dom Joly, this time it was Philip Franks and he did a good job, and was quick with his off-script comebacks. Also, Ore Oduba filled his fishnets nicely as Brad, the man has come far from a sports broadcaster to this.
I'd forgotten just how much I love going to the theatre, the feel of the place, finding your seat, seeing everyone so excited for the show, even the top gallery was filled for this one so the buzz was fantastic. We'd got these tickets from credit we had from two tickets we'd bought to see Phantom of the Opera which had been cancelled in 2020, and still have some left as the tickets were cheaper, and now all I want to do is use the rest and book more.
One frustrating thing, theatre seats are tight anyway, because of her fall my SiL's thigh was badly swollen and she discovered there was no way she'd be able to actually sit in her seat. She could sit on top of it with the seat tipped up, but of course, that meant she was in the way of people behind her. So, I went off to find a staff member to see if we could move somewhere. The problem was it was so busy it was taking ages for a supervisor to be able to come, but thankfully, three ladies overheard me talking and offered to swap seats with us. They were literally in the last but one row, and we were much further forward, but we could still see perfectly well, and at least my SiL could prop herself up and not block anyone's view.
So, in the end, the move didn't matter and I got to spent Friday night doing the Time Warp surrounded by people dressed up and having the time of their lives.
Though getting home heading towards midnight was a shock to the system, I've usually been in bed for two hours by then *g*

Date: 2021-09-26 01:47 pm (UTC)Yes! I always want to go again once I am there and having fun too. But the logistics are so bothersome, so I don't. *g*

I'm lucky we have a theatre so close, if I had to travel I'd never go anywhere. It was bad enough getting home that late after a 20 minutes car journey, if it was after midnight I may have changed into a mouse or pumpkin *g*
Saying that, I'm still very tempted to get School of Rock tickets for next week.

Date: 2021-09-27 08:30 am (UTC)I was thinking when the last time I'd been before this, and think it was for the pantomime in 2019. We had tickets for stuff in 2020, but of course, they got cancelled.

I hope you managed to get a good night's sleep even though you got home so late. When I go to bed much later than usual I often have a terrible time falling asleep.

Date: 2021-09-27 08:28 am (UTC)It was kind of the ladies, if they hadn't spoken up I suspect we would have missed the start of the show as it was so busy. And that was if they could find another row with no one sitting behind.
Thankfully I did drop off easily, though didn't get as much sleep as usual. My stupid body always seems to wake around the same time no matter what time I drop off.

Date: 2021-09-27 08:24 am (UTC)I was pleased we could find something that worked though. At one point I was picturing having to go home.
