Oct. 3rd, 2021 02:45 pmWe tend to go to Re.F.Use for breakfast every Saturday morning. Yesterday, the lead lady greeted us with, 'let me guess, one vegetarian breakfast with brown toast, one full English with an extra egg and extra white toast' and yeah, we're that predictable it seems.
That same day we took my MiL out for a drive in the afternoon. I think the reality of living together is starting to hit for both her and my SiL and they both need time apart at times. My SiL's house is local authority and has four bedrooms, but it's still small with only a living room, toilet and kitchen downstairs, so there's no room for privacy. So, we went for a drive along the coast and had coffee and everyone got a break for a bit.
We went to see the new Bond film, No Time to Die on Friday. I can't say it's my favourite franchise but James loves them and has been waiting to see this for a long time now. We went to the iSense in Durham with the comfy recliners, and considering the film is nearly three hours long it was probably just as well.
Like I said above, it's not my favourite franchise and I actively dislike the early Bond films, but have watched the Daniel Craig versions at the cinema and while I didn't dislike them, didn't love them either. Which is why I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
The film is far too long. It started losing my attention in the middle and the pacing seemed off. But overall, it was a win for me, which I'm still surprised at.
That same evening I read some Bond/Q, resulting in actually dreaming about Bond. It wasn't a sex dream, but some h/c without the c, but even so. Come on brain, what's up with that?
It's October which means Whumptober fics are being posted, which is fab, but also leads to my usual frustrations about short chapters or one-shots being posted daily when I want something long to sink into. Thankfully, Musketeer fandom seems to love whumptober so I won't complain too much as at least it's a change from all of the 'female OC joins the Musketeers and kicks ass falling in love with one of them at the same time and everyone lives happily ever after' stories that have been posted recently.

Date: 2021-10-03 01:56 pm (UTC)I have tickets for the new bond film in a week. I'm not a fan of the older ones, but Daniel Craig convinced me. I've enjoyed his. I'll see how I like it being so long, though. Bond/Q is a fun pairing.
WHat is with the OC/canon character stories lately?!?!? They are everywhere and all tagged differently so they are hard to filter out.

Date: 2021-10-03 02:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, the older Bond films really put me off the franchise, but Daniel Craig has pulled it back. I didn't really notice the length apart from the middle section when things seemed to drag. I'll be interested to know what you think of the film when you see it. Also, if you enjoy Bond's short t-shirt and shorts combo that made me sit up and think, hello!
It was the first time I'd read Bond/Q. I doubt it'll be a big thing for me, but it made for a nice few hours of reading.

I know, right?! Musketeers have been riddled with them lately. Along with canon character/self. Which just, no. *shakes cane*

Date: 2021-10-03 02:40 pm (UTC)If you didn't read Ordinary Numbers by BootsnBlossoms and Kryptaria (https://archiveofourown.org/works/705037), you'll want to add it to your To Be Read List!! Brilliant Bond/Q story.
I've come across them in every fandom I read,e except maybe HP. I'm all for living and let live fannishly, but tag consistently, people, so I can filter you out!

Date: 2021-10-03 02:44 pm (UTC)I enjoyed Rocky Horror so much. I love live theatre and have missed going, so to be surrounded by fans again was great. I especially loved that no one seemed self-conscious about dressing up no matter their body shape. That was lovely to see.
I'm hopping between Musketeers, Downton Abbey, Winterhawk MCU, bandom, and apparently Bond right now. Even with the short stories, I'm not going to run out anytime soon.

Yep. I agree.

Date: 2021-10-03 06:44 pm (UTC)It's hard living with someone you're not used to living with, especially when there isn't anywhere to flee to. I hope they can figure out how to make it work.

Date: 2021-10-04 07:37 am (UTC)Ahahaha, yeah, that background stuff can be pretty tempting. I really wasn't expecting to like the film as much as I did. Like I said, it did go on too long but perked up at the end.
I like my MiL so taking her out isn't an issue. It's just a shame her mobility isn't a bit better as even getting in and out of the car into her wheelchair is hard for her, so once it gets colder it tends to be going out for drives only.

Date: 2021-10-04 07:41 am (UTC)Yeah, it was lovely to chat and sit quite watching the ocean. Funny how cheap coffee in paper cups tastes so much better in that situation too.

Date: 2021-10-04 07:48 am (UTC)Yeah, you're right about that. It's a shame they don't have a spare living room because that would help a lot. My MiL was saying how she craves quiet at times and I can understand why. But she also won't entertain even thinking about applying for a bungalow or some kind of assisted living facility so unfortunately, they'll have to learn to compromise and adapt.

Date: 2021-10-04 07:44 pm (UTC)I feel for both your MiL and SiL! Learning to live together in a small house must be very difficult for both of them. I'm glad you can provide your MiL with a bit of an escape now and then. And I totally envy her getting to drive along the coast with you!
Almost three hours is too long for ANY film! Still, it does sound like you enjoyed most of it which is always a good thing.
*snerk* Your brain is clearly just as evil as you are ;-D

Date: 2021-10-05 12:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, living on top of each other isn't the best. Even if they had a spare accessible room for my MiL to take a break in it would be better. She's coming to stay here for the weekend in a couple of weeks, and that's all we can do really. Provide breaks for them all when possible.
I have to agree, 3 hours is very long for a film. I know if I was at home I would have lost interest and drifted off to do something else in the middle. But, at the cinema, I just stick it out. Or, if you're James, go to sleep *g*
My brain was so evil! But never did I imagine I'd be dreaming about James Bond of all people.

Date: 2021-10-10 08:08 am (UTC)things are pretty okay, i can't complain. <3
and aw, i'm glad you're having a nice time with your mother in law. i feel you about how hard mobility stuff can be — my grandfather used a wheelchair for the latter part of his life, and there were similar accessibility issues when the weather got bad. sending you love for your winter drives!
