Jan. 10th, 2022 02:12 pmIt was my SiL's birthday yesterday so she went out with her partner and their kids to go get dinner and see a pantomime -- which was then cancelled, so they saw Clifford at the cinema instead.
So, with them being out all day my MiL came here and I cooked a belated New Year dinner. If I do say so myself it was delicious, plus, I managed to get rid of the lingering Christmas snacky stuff, a bottle of Bucks Fizz and a cake from the freezer. Though, that wasn't such a good step forward as we needed to get some salad stuff so popped into Iceland and found out they were selling off a load of Christmas food. So, I now have a cake for Easter as well as a lot of veggie wellingtons and Quorn roasts.
It was a nice day with my MiL, she was content watching TV and getting drinks and food made for her. Though did spend quite a lot of time complaining about my SiL and her partner going to bed early and leaving her alone downstairs. I don't think she gets they'll want time alone sometimes. Plus, she admitted she thinks she's got a chest infection but hasn't told the doctor, and really, she needs to look after her health better.
We ended up watching The Towering Inferno until after 7 so by the time we'd driven my MiL home it was latish and I'd barely glanced online. Which is why Snowflake didn't happen yesterday.
Today has been one of those days. The washer has stopped working but thankfully the repair guy can come tomorrow morning when hopefully it'll just be the brushes needing to be replaced again.
Though, via YouTube I did find out how to drain the drum manually so I could get the sodden stuff out.
A bag of rubbish that contained scraps, leftover food etc from yesterday fell from the chair I'd balanced it on and sent stuff everywhere. My fault totally I know but still, such a mess.
We got mail for the first time in well over a week, included in which was what looks like a birthday card for James, only 5 weeks late, and the letter for his hospital appointment this afternoon. Thankfully he gets back up texts so knew about it, but if he didn't check his phone he would have missed it completely.
I'm also trying to phone the PDSA to get Milo booked in for his kidney blood test checkups. They say email and they'll get back to you, which I did last week, and got the reply that blood tests needed to be done at the practice and to phone Monday morning for an appointment. Which I did, and and am continuing to do as every time I get through someone picks up the phone and hangs up which is rather frustrating.

Date: 2022-01-10 08:12 pm (UTC)Sounds like you had a good day (I do have to laugh about the bargains though, thwarted at every turn!).
I'm glad you managed to release the washing, how blinking frustrating! I've fingers crossed that it's a quick, easy and cheap fix.

Date: 2022-01-11 07:52 am (UTC)We did have a good day. I enjoy a nice roast dinner with all the trimmings and it meant I could cook the stuffing that got left accidentally in the freezer at Christmas. But yeah, the bargains meant I was playing freezer Tetris again when I thought I'd finally have some space.
The last time the drum wouldn't spin it was a cheap enough fix to change the brushes. I really hope it's the same again today.

Date: 2022-01-13 04:00 pm (UTC)Sounds like you'd a nice visit from the MiL but I totally agree with you, she should definitely look after her health better! I'm so glad my mum has never been like this.
I hope you managed to book an appointment for Milo's blood test in the end!

Date: 2022-01-13 04:56 pm (UTC)My MiL already has mild heart failure so you'd expect she'd look after herself more. I suspect she'd worried about being admitted to hospital again, but it wouldn't even get to that point if she acted when she first feels unwell.
Milo was there for his blood test today, though they haven't phoned with the results yet. Not that they were worried, he had a quick check and was fine, it's just they need to keep an eye on his kidney levels every now and then.
