Jan. 19th, 2022 03:29 pmSeason 2 Picard is being released March 3rd and I'm looking forward to seeing Santiago it so much!
The Snowflake challenge today is for recs and I feel the need to go in a Musketeer direction. Obviously, this will be an excellent excuse to sit and indulge in Musketeer fanvids and gaze at Aramis' pretty face.
I got a good start on sorting the spare room yesterday. James went through the stuff he'd brought back from his parent's house and some were thrown away, other stuff boxed up and it's now a lot more contained than the explosion of boxes and bags that had been brought here after my FiL died.
I did a tip run and got rid of some old clutter and boxes and will do the same again on Friday. Also booked a bulk waste pick up from the council who will take away the double bed mattress, divan, headboard and two old sliding wardrobe doors. Sadly, the first available slot wasn't until the first week in Feb so the bed will be getting moved into Corey's room until then.
I should really sort the huge cupboard in the hall and take advantage of Friday's tip run. I keep clearing it and it keeps filling up, and I've no idea how.
The tip is moving next month to a new site where the skips will be down from the loading areas, so you just throw the bags etc through a giant hole in the wall and into a skip, unlike now where you have to go up metal steps to a walkway.
The new tip will also have a shop where they'll save thrown away stuff still in good condition and sell it for a nominal price, which I think is a fantastic idea.

Date: 2022-01-19 07:46 pm (UTC)You're going great guns with the sorting and decluttering, with the cupboard that keeps filling up, is it laid out in such a way that it's easy to pile things on top of things and not super easy to store things in a more organised way than that? That's usually my problem.
What a brilliant idea for the tip - so much better than stuff just going to rot, but much easier for people just wanting shot of it.

That's an awesome idea. One man's trash and all thst. So much stuff gets thrown away that would do much better going to a new home instead, and building that into the system increases the chances of success

Date: 2022-01-20 09:58 am (UTC)I'm stupidly pleased about the new tip design. It just makes so much more sense to drive up to a loading spot and throw your stuff down into a skip, and not have to haul everything up steps and that up and over the skip sides.

I know, it's a sacrifice, but one I will attempt to undertake!

Exactly! I've seen so much good stuff just thrown into the skips when others may have used it. I'm not sure how the shop will work, for example, do you leave stuff you think is good in a special area or will the workers pluck it from the skips? But however it works, it's sure to benefit a lot of people.

To be honest, I think it's because it's so big, more like a big walk-in pantry than a cupboard. Trouble is, because that space is there everything that doesn't have a spot elsewhere gets put there. For example, right now it's full of some boxes that were too big to go in the wheelie recycling bin. Though, I'll be able to get rid of them tomorrow.

I agree. I see so much stuff in the skips that could still be used. I like the idea it'll be sold and not just end in landfill.

Date: 2022-01-20 10:11 am (UTC)I can relate. Plus, when you do start to sort stuff out it always seems to get much worse before it gets better, which is intimidating.
I'm thankful we do have a car so can haul stuff to the tip, if I had to rely on it being taken away in the bins it would take forever.
I really like the design of the new tip. It makes so much more sense to park up and throw stuff down into the skips than climb up steps and throw it up and over the railings.

Date: 2022-01-21 12:19 am (UTC)Maybe they'll do both? I think they'd need to be proactive about it to start with, until people get used to the idea of "oh wait, this might be good for the shop"

Date: 2022-01-21 05:46 pm (UTC)Our tip has a shop like that! (It's the one I usually call the recycling centre shop.) There's a special section where you can put anything you think is in good enough condition for them to sell. I almost always have something to put there :- ) (They can't take anything from the skips because they're not allowed to go against the original owner's decision to throw it away. It sounds a little silly but that's ownership laws for you.)

That sounds like a sensible system. I do wonder if our tip will do the same because it doesn't seem safe to be pulling stuff from tips. Plus, I'd imagine items could easily get damaged after being thrown in.
Remembering all the nice things you've got from the recycling centre shop I have high hopes for ours now.
