It hasn't been the best time for cats known to me lately. First finding out sad news about a friend's beloved cat and then yesterday Kayleigh had to have Mr Tumnus pts

I've been talking to her loads the last few days as it was obvious he was going downhill fast. He was 18, stone deaf and had been on thyroid meds for ages. But he still managed just fine until a few days ago. Kayleigh sent a video of him to me and he really wasn't right, lethargic and belly breathing. She took him to the vet and I just knew he wouldn't be coming back, and he didn't.

He was in heart failure and it was best for him to let him go, but Kayleigh's in bits. This is the first animal she's ever had to make that decision for and it's broken her right now. And there's not a thing I can say that will make her feel better.

It was the right thing to do, but it still hurts, there's no getting away from that.

In happier news, James will be getting his new car in a few weeks and has sorted out an insurance issue that could have been a problem.

Long story sort of short, a few months ago someone bashed a shopping trolley against the car door denting it. Not that we knew that until we came out of the shops and saw the damage.

Mobility insurance said as it was cosmetic damage and the car was going back soon it was okay to leave it and it would go down as wear and tear, not affecting getting the good car condition bonus at the end of the hire.

While extending the insurance on the car we have now, another Mobility person a few days ago said that wasn't true and we'd lose that money. As it's £600 it's a lot to lose.

James went to the garage and as he has a letter stating about the wear and tear, that it was reported and Mobility are aware, he will get the money. So, that was a relief.

It was a strange but also productive day yesterday. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but I realised I'd left my bag in the car after coming home from the theatre. I hadn't needed anything out of it the day before but yesterday I needed to go to the shops, and of course didn't have my purse, favourite masks, anything. Thankfully I did have spare keys so could go out and pay via my phone anyway. But it felt so strange going out just holding my keys and phone.

Then when I got back I made two Shepard's pies, one veggie mince, one normal. To continue on my 'use all the stuff' goal, I started using one of the giant bottles of onion chutney I have. Another Company special from a while back of course, but one where I got home and thought, what the hell am I going to use all this chutney on? Turns out, it's quite nice in mince. As there's still loads left, I'm thinking cheese and onion chutney toasties may be in our future.

Oh no, poor Kayleigh 😔 that's a terrible decision to have to make, but I'm glad she made it and her kitty got to go peacefully.

Hooray for using things! Spouse has been doing most of the cooking and every so often will dig something out of the cupboard that I bought impulsively and then somehow make something tasty with it, it's pretty impressive. XD

poor Kayleigh - it's such a hard hard decision, even when it's the only decision.

Go you and creative cookery!

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about Mr Tumnus. I hope Kayleigh can take some comfort knowing she gave him a life full of love. Though that can't undo the grief. - It has been rough for cats lately, hasn't it. :(

I'm glad the insurance company didn't renege after all. And I can well imagine how strange it feels to be out without your usual stuff! Thank goodness you had alternatives so you weren't totally stuck.

It is absolutely heart-breaking and as it with all grief, only time will help.

Chutney is indeed good in toasties and sandwiches. I have also used it to spicy up salads. Would also, I suspect, go well as a base for savoury tarts. Or on pizza.

It was the right thing to do, but it still hurts, there's no getting away from that yeah. ♥ ♥

I've been trying to carry less when I'm out an about, because previously I'd been used to just carrying my life in my handbag like some kind of tortoise so I could do things on the way home from work but even when I know fine well I'm just out for a walk it still feels quite naked to go out without all the gubbins (plus there's now all that extra mask and sanitiser gubbins).

Good news about the insurance, £600 is a lot of cash to lose out on, I'm glad you won't!

EXCELLENT using things up cookery - the chutney in the mince sounds like a really tasty way to go (and the toasties, well, yes, yum),

This has really not been a good month for cats! Poor, poor Kayleigh! I feel so sad for her. Give her a big hug from me.

That's good to hear about the car insurance! Six hundred pounds is A LOT of money.

That must have felt so weird for you! If you're used to carting a bag with you everywhere going somewhere without is almost like going out naked!

I've never tried onion chutney but I know mango chutney is awesome added to most Indian-style recipes. It adds such a nice sweet-tart flavour.

PTS is the worst part of having pets in your life :( Poor Kayleigh; it's rotten. I hope she's okay.

I had not considered the option of using chutney with mince. I might experiment with the leftover Christmas chutney and see what we end up with...

Yay for not losing that money!

I made a Shepherd's pie this past week, too! (Ground beef, so it's not ~technically a Shepherd's Pie, but that's what the recipe said. *g*)
