Thank you [personal profile] dine for the lovely postcard that arrived today. I always enjoy mail from you ♥

I think my computer has it in for me lately. It was dropping connection like crazy the last few days, then today stopped doing anything at all. Thankfully I could do a restore and after many hours of scans and restoring it's back, and it better stay this time.

We're waiting for the recliner repairman to come in a few hours as the frame on James' chair is broken. I suspect as he can't lower himself gently the frame or joints or something have buckled after years of use. But hopefully, it's a reasonably priced fix as it does need fixing.

My MiL was supposed to be coming here next Wednesday for a few days so my SiL and family could go visit other family. But it turns out they're fitting the wet room next week meaning no water for four days, so my MiL phoned saying she'd have to stay here for a week from Sunday.

I have to admit my initial reaction wasn't positive, though silent, and then James made it a thousand times worse by not saying yes immediately. Which I feel bad about because obviously, she'll come here it's just a week is a lot and there are practical matters that need to be figured out and gah. I see extra long baths in my future.

Lymph appointment for me tomorrow then James is at the dentist, which is nice timing between the storm today and the coming storm on Friday that looks horrific.

glad you like to get mail - I like to send it, so it's mutual enjoyment!

I'd never thought about recliner repair - hopefully mine won't need attention for ages, but I wonder if there's a similar house-call service here? I should investigate

good luck with the MiL visit - I know it'll mean lots of hassle for you - hope you enjoy the long baths (and fic) breaks

A week is a long time to have a house guest, even if they are family, and it's for a good cause. Here's to self-care, deep breathes, and long baths!

Even if you love them, week long houseguests ar exhausting, especially if they need extra attention or support. I think it's fine to feel not thrilled by the prospect, and 100% appropriate to find ways to self-soothe to deal with it. Don't feel bad.

The current storm is foul. Friday's storm looks worse. I keep retrieving my bins from halfway down the driveway, and I'm not convinced I'll have any left by Saturday!

I hope your computer will behave better again - it can be such an awful feeling to be cut off from your usual access point to online connections! And I hope the recliner can be brought back to better functioning too so James can be comfortable.

Having your MiL come to stay sooner and for twice as long is quite a lot to ask, even if her reason for it is clear. I hope she can understand that and not take it personally that you and James weren't thrilled. And I hope you do get to have good time to yourself during that time! <3

It's so frustrating when the internet connection isn't working properly! Hopefully the restore you did will keep it working properly for a very long time!

I see from comments that James' chair was sadly beyond all hope of repair. Very disappointing for him.

Oh dear, I really feel for you! A whole week is a long time to have someone else staying in your home. Particularly when you weren't really prepared for it. I'll keep my fingers crossed everything will go as smoothly as possible and that you'll manage to get more alone-time than just in the bath tub!

houseguests are like fish and all that - even if you love them and they're super easy. Baths are a particularly excellent self care activity then.

I'm catching up again! I'm glad your computer is working again.

Bummer that the recliner couldn't be repaired. We've had to keep the nuts and bolts tight on Pip's previous recliner ourselves from the moment we brought it home. And this one has been a mess for a long time. I can sit in it to watch tv, but if I try to sleep in it (not sure what the difference is) I get a knot in my one shoulder blade. There's a weird tilt to the back. Pip has tipped it over and tried to find bolts to tighten, but he said he couldn't find any. Every time I sit in it, the thing creaks. One day it's going to fall apart. o_O

I hope the m-i-l visit went well. I hear you on that being an unpleasant surprise.
