Jun. 9th, 2022 04:28 pmI've been watching Big Boys and enjoying it a lot. From the outside, it looks like a typical laddish comedy but it has some incredibly sombre moments that catch you as the two main characters deal with loss and depression along with their first year at uni.
I've also been enjoying all the fanvids being recced at
fanvid recently. Because of that, I watched a really great Musketeers fanvid this morning. The Musketeers is often a show that plays for laughs, but it also has incredibly serious moments too, and this vid explores those Knocking on Heaven's Door. Content warnings on the Fancake post.
My garden is looking pretty great right now, all the containers are full of flowers and the tomatoes and courgettes are coming along nicely. I cheated and bought an established pepper plant from the wilted and needing TLC shelf at B&Q and it has peppers on which is cool. Whether more will appear I don't know, but I have hope. Plus, I noticed the lily beetles were back early this year and got them sprayed, so fingers crossed, I'll have more than stalks this time.
My six months on the mail panel is nearly up again so I got my end of term stamp presentation pack, which was The FA Cup this time. I also have paperwork on the way which means I can swap my stash of stamps for the new barcoded ones. I have so many of the things it's ridiculous.
The cost of living situation continues to creep up. Not just the big things like petrol and utilities, but earlier I was at the chemist and was going to nip into Costa and get an iced latte as it's a lovely sunny day. But they're now £4:20 and just, nope. I'm not going to stop drinking them altogether because I do like a Costa but cut back, totally. I really can't justify paying that much for a coffee very often. Especially so as I had oat milk, ice and ice latte packet mix at home and that tastes just as good.

Date: 2022-06-09 05:03 pm (UTC)I was surprised when I saw all the Costa prices had gone up about 40p. I mean, it's not much as a one-off but it soon adds up.

Date: 2022-06-10 08:17 am (UTC)Inflation has been so awful. It's hard to have to choose what to spend on and what to give up. :(

Date: 2022-06-11 05:59 pm (UTC)Sounds like your garden is coming along splendidly, yay! I totally agree with Lesa that buying a sad and neglected plant and nursing it to health isn't cheating AT ALL. I'll keep my fingers crossed you managed to get at those pesky beetles in time.
You need to send more mail!
That's a rididculous price for a latte! Things have started to get more expensive here in Sweden too but not nearly at the same rate as yours which I'm fervently grateful for.

Date: 2022-06-12 01:44 pm (UTC)I saw two lily beetles last time I checked the plant but a quick spray and I hope they'll be banished. I guess it's just a case of keeping watch and reapplying. And my pepper plant is looking so much better. No sign of new peppers but the ones it has are growing.
You're right, I do need to send more mail. I just wish that the post office in town hadn't closed so I could use multiple stamps to send overseas or parcels.
It is a ridiculous price and it's not the only thing. The news was reporting that it's costing £100 to fill the average family car right now and I can well believe it. I hope the prices in Sweden stay relatively stable.
