Jun. 12th, 2022 04:12 pmIt's so windy today, but sunny windy so a perfect washing drying day. I did have to be careful feeding the plants I have outside on the flower shelf though -- before he died my dad attached a large scaffolding plank to the wall using hanging basket brackets, it looks good filled with all the planters, but it does mean stretching when I'm using the watering can, meaning I could have ended up having an unwanted shower in this wind.
It's also my middle niece's birthday today. She's eight and asked for make-up and really, where has that young girl gone? I got her a small starter set and apparently, she was pleased she could now draw in her eyebrows as they're very fair. And did so using black eyeliner. But, we all have to start somewhere.
The Orville is back, along with a bit of an extra name! The Orville: New Horizons. I've no idea when it'll appear on TV here so I downloaded the first two eps. I've watched the first one so far and am very pleased it's here, but man, it started in a thinky way.
I've also watched the last eps of Brooklyn Nine-Nine this week and the end of the series special. It's yet another show that went off the boil at times but I still enjoyed the characters. Well, apart from Gina. I never really missed her once she left.
I haven't seen this since my Sentinel days, but a Musketeer writer I've been following has just rewritten one of their WIPs into gen and slash versions. I thought that they'd had a mega update of a story I've been enjoying but nope, it's a gen version. I have no problem with gen at all and will happily read it, but this was a surprise.
James is starting to feel better but as he's still testing positive his work has told him to test again on day ten and if negative then come back, if not, it'll have to be a sick note from the doctor. It's all under the Covid clause so he won't get in trouble for time off but he'll be pleased to test negative so he can get out and about again.

Date: 2022-06-12 08:29 pm (UTC)Happy birthday to your niece! I hope she gets to experiment and find the looks that she enjoys.
I don't know if I'd have the patience to write two different versions of the same story like that. Unless I was deliberately remixing it, I guess - but to me, it would be a different story then. But if they like to do it that way, why not.
Very glad to hear James is improving. I hope he can recover thoroughly soon!

Date: 2022-06-13 03:39 pm (UTC)My niece had a lovely birthday, it was a shame we couldn't celebrate in person with her, but there will be other times.

Eventually, I'll read both versions to see what the differences actually are. Right now they've been posting a WIP slash version and have now mass posted the gen chapters of the same story and I suspect reading both would lead to a mix-up until they're done. You're right, that it has to take a load of patience, and brain power as they keep track of the two different versions. But you're also right that if they want to do it there's no reason why not.

Date: 2022-06-13 09:13 pm (UTC)Which doesn't remind me, but I remembered anyway, I still have to answer your email. I'll try to do that tonight.
So I told my brother I had tickets for New York Comic Con and my brother was all, you know your niece is into that anime stuff, she'd really enjoy that kind of thing... So, I might be taking a 10-year-old to a con or two. Probably not NYCC, but there is a local weekend con in August and an anime-focused one in NYC in November.

Date: 2022-06-14 06:13 pm (UTC)I have to confess to being a little shocked that an eight-year-old would want makeup. I have no memories of even thinking of makeup until I reached puberty. I hope she's having lots of fun with eher little starter set.
I know people used to do that back in the day when the only alternative to LJ was FFN but why on earth would you do it now?!!
How frustrating for James to still be testing positive. I'll keep my fingers crossed the next test will be negative!

Date: 2022-06-15 01:03 pm (UTC)I have to admit I was surprised she wanted make-up too. I'm sure at that age I was still playing with my Sindy dolls not wearing make-up and learning how to apply it. She does seem to be having fun, though. And my SiL has stressed to her it's a special occasion thing only.

It's such a lot of work for very little benefit it seems. I know in the past slash had to be hidden away by some sites, but we're well past that now.
Your crossed fingers must have worked as James' last test was negative. He's still not allowed back to work yet but can at least go back into the world.
