Jul. 7th, 2022 08:20 amI don't normally post about politics but watching the Conservatives implode right now is amazing stuff and I'm astounded by the lengths Boris will go to to cling onto his role. Despite now having the record of most ministerial resignations for one day than any PM in history the lying scumbag is still hanging on, getting more wild-eyed and waffling with every second.
I kept checking BBC news yesterday and the resignation count kept going up and up, and then just before bed learning Michael Gove had been sacked -- and also been called a snake, which okay, understandable -- because he was one of the group who met Boris and said he should step down made me laugh because it was just so petty.
ETA since I started to write this, more have gone and they're now at the 53rd member of the government to resign.
On the plus side, there was some excellent Larry sightings outside Downing Street, including this tweet that went viral for a while.
We're two down, one to go for this week of appointments for James.
Monday James had an appointment with our GP because everything hit at once. He's still recovering from Covid, his back is really painful, the kidney issue keeps lingering and then, a week come Saturday it's the first anniversary of his uncle's death, then the week after that his dad's.
The GP was going to sign him off work for a month at first, but James suggested two weeks, though I suspect he will extend when he gets to the end of those two weeks.
That was Monday. Tuesday it was his pre-op for his kidney procedure. That was actually mostly good news, his blood pressure was fine, all his bloods taken a few months ago all had great results and they were happy for him to go ahead. Except, you have to be COVID-free for seven weeks, which means he couldn't have the procedure until the end of this month. Not that he had a date anyway yet, twelve weeks so far for something that was on a three-week pathway.
But the nurse was fantastic and also made sure it was noted I could stay with him in the day case unit. It's just much easier that way, I help him get ready etc, go hang in the waiting room while he's in theatre, and then will be there after. So that was a relief.
Then more bloods had to be taken. First, the nurse tried, then the anaesthetist, then the head anaesthetist was sent for. He tried multiple times in James' arms, multiple times in his foot and also his leg which was apparently really painful but nothing. The nurse actually suggested they send James away and come back for an appointment where a mobile scanner could be used, but the head anaesthetists kept on trying, then decided they would have to use the scanner but instead of another appointment he just took off to the nearest theatre and took theirs for a while, and within five minutes all the vials of blood were taken. Still from James' leg but at least he could get straight to the vein without too much pain. In all, it took over an hour just for that part, and I think we were all glad it was over in the end.
The weight thing is, James has put on another stone and isn't comfortable with it at all. The nurse had to put it down as a warning on the pre-op checklist -- though she was discrete about it and didn't even mention it, just where I was sitting I could see exactly what she was typing.
So he's made a vow to try and lose some weight and is using My Fitness Pal again. It's what I use so hopefully, it'll become second nature, and will help show that it's the snacking and full-fat frappes that need to be limited because it is an eye-opener when you input a Starbuck's frappe and see it can be close to 500 calories for one drink. Not that I think there's anything wrong with drinking them, just it helps to have a balance.
Tomorrow it's James' screening appointment for his back and I really hope he'll get the actual appointment very soon because I think being pain-free in terms of his back will help a lot because he's struggling right now. With it being the private hospital I'm hoping next week, but we'll see I guess.
Because of the above, we're trying for short, easy walks, and also I suspect lots of cinema time will be happening. Yesterday we saw Elvis, and though every seat was full, we were one of the youngest couples there by about 20 years. Though I suspect that was because it was an afternoon showing more than anything.
I liked it, I'm not an Elvis fan especially but do know his well-known songs so enjoyed all the music. I have read reviews saying it's more a series of performances padded out with blocks of scant plot between, which I agree with. But sometimes all you want is a compelling star, good music, flashy costumes and a lot of wiggling on screen.
And then in two hours, we're off to see the new Thor. I'm eagerly looking forward to that one.
So yes, one step forward two steps back here right now.
