Jul. 11th, 2022 04:23 pmAs I'm sure many are saying in the UK right now, it's a bit hot today.
We've been getting our walks in first thing lately so were at the beach for 7am today, an Americano and slice of toast at the beachside cafe, an interesting talk about wild swimming with a lovely couple, and getting to walk in the early morning sunshine was an excellent start to the day.
James' screening for his back procedure was at the end of last week and it was ridiculous. If he hadn't had his phone on loudspeaker I would have thought he was joking if he'd told me about it later. The surgeon was an hour late phoning, then this was literally the conversation. "Hello, James, sorry I'm late phoning. Do you still want your back procedure done at the private hospital because it's closer to where you live?" James said yes, then, "Okay, you'll get an appointment for within the next two weeks" and that was it.
The appointment did come today, and he's getting it done next Tuesday, so one thing booked in anyway.
Today I also looked into rejoining swimming again. Where we used to go is now nearly £40 a month for unlimited visits, but the local authority gym and pool is only £15 so I'm considering rejoining there. I used to like going to the gym and it should help kick start the stall that wants to be a backslide I've been fighting against since lockdown times.
It was my MiL's birthday on Saturday so we took her out to eat on Friday as she's already arranged to go out with my SiL and family on the actual day. It was a nice time, though the restaurant we went to was a bit pricey-er than we'd normally spend. Along with my MiL I had a cocktail and this lady came up to us after, asked what we were drinking as it looked nice, and said we should have had another. But, I passed on that as man, they were strong. Two would have had me wanting a lie down to sleep it off, which wouldn't have been a good look when it was just after midday.
I've been catching up on some TV. I've finished the final season of Legends of Tomorrow, am about 2/3 of the way through The Umbrella Academy S3 and am two eps from the end of The Midwich Cuckoos. That is one nail-biter of a show and I'm eager to see how it ends.

Date: 2022-07-12 08:26 am (UTC)Your beach walk sounds really nice though. And I'm glad James has an appointment for the back procedure now, however stupid the bureaucratic hoops to go through to get it.
What was in your cocktail? And - key question - did it have a paper umbrella? Happy birthday to your MiL!

Date: 2022-07-12 11:51 am (UTC)The walk was fantastic and the woman of the couple was really selling wild swimming in the ocean. Though I suspect I may change my mind if I ever went in as I suspect even now it would be chilly.
We had pina colada cocktails with white rum and coconut milk. Sadly no cocktail umbrella, but there was a slice of pineapple *g* I'd love to know what brand of rum it was though as it had quite the kick.

Date: 2022-07-12 04:28 pm (UTC)Oh man, I was so glad he got one appointment at least. Now roll on the second and I can stop wondering about everything.
Thank you. I do love swimming a lot and the old place was great as the pool is in a hotel so is a bit more private with great disabled changing facilities. I just don't know if I can justify the cost when the other pool is also good and so much cheaper.

Date: 2022-07-14 04:28 pm (UTC)That screening sounds really strange. I thought doctors had more important things to do that make phonecalls that could just as well have been done by someone in administration. In any case, I'm keeping everything crossed everything will go very well!
Good luck getting back into swimming regularly again!
Sounds like you'd a nice time out with the MiL.

I totally agree. The reason he moved James to this hospital is because they're so busy he's doing clinics at two different hospitals, which is probably why he was so late phoning. So why he was the one to phone I don't know. It would make much more sense for admin to phone and get that verbal consent.
It was a nice time with my MiL :)
