Jul. 16th, 2022 06:31 pmWe did another craft fair today, and it was the best one yet. It was inside a school with air conditioning, which was a huge plus and James managed to sell a nice bit of stock, which was great.
We also had a drive to the beach after the fair was finished to get some ocean time, as no way am I going there again until the temp drops at the end of next week. It was busy enough today and that was before the rocketing temperatures that are upcoming.
Tomorrow I'm going to go buy a cool mat for Milo, I've been watching practically the whole country turn red with the heat warning and when I saw our area was forecast for around 34c for a couple of days I knew I needed to do something to help him. I actually had a mat in my hand yesterday to buy but the sales assistant at Pets at Home was dubious if a dog cool mat would do for cats as they tend to claw and the gel could be poisonous. So I let her talk me into a cooling bandana, which of course Milo will have nothing to do with. I do think the mat is the best option, he doesn't claw and a towel should give extra protection. Of course, Murphy can use it too, it's just with Milo's age and limited mobility I'm worried for him.
James' back procedure is on Tuesday at what will be the hottest part of the day. We're both glad he's finally getting it done but the timing could have been better. So I think the plan is to do grocery shopping tomorrow, maybe an early morning cinema visit on Monday where we both want to see the film and also take advantage of the air con, stay home on Tuesday until hospital time, then it'll be recovery for James while I potter in the house and garden the rest of the week.
After nearly two months I finally got my new compressions yesterday and one foot piece. That isn't really an issue as I can't wear them until shown how to fit them properly at my next appointment with Grahame, and even then they're only for puffy feet occasions. But even so, why send one and not a pair? But I wore my new wraps today and they look clean and not fluffy from where the Velcro always snags where they fasten. Of course, they're also hot and I'd love to take them off but in these temps, I can't risk it as my legs will start to swell really fast if I did so.
We had an early start today to get to the fair for nine, so add in taking the crates to the car, time at the fair, the drive to the beach, putting crates into the garage, making tea etc I'm tired now. So I intend to give the garden a good soak then settle down for the night and watch the last two eps of The Umbrella Academy with a ice-cold Pepsi Max and a piece of cake I bought earlier.

Date: 2022-07-16 07:28 pm (UTC)34C for a couple of days?!!! That's absolutely horrifying! I'm sure both Milo and Murphy will appreciate a cool mat to lounge on.
I'm keeping everything crossed James' procedure will go VERY well!
Just sending one foot piece seems so weird!
Good luck surviving the upcoming horrifying heat!!

Date: 2022-07-16 09:10 pm (UTC)Horrifying is right. But we're lucky compared to people further down south. Their red warning has figures up to 40C and I can barely comprehend it being that hot in the UK.
I'm planning on putting the cool mat on the landing where Milo likes to lie down. I know cats do like the heat and lying in the sun but I do think they need some help when it's that hot.
Thank you! It'll be lovely for him to be pain-free in his back again.
The one foot piece made no sense at all. I mean, why? I don't get it.

Date: 2022-07-17 12:03 pm (UTC)Will the cooling bandana work as a cover for the pad? Have you tried Amazon for cat cooling pads? If you haven't looked at different kinds of mats and pros/cons, this article looks like it has some good information. https://www.rover.com/blog/cooling-pad-for-cat/
I saw on the news the UK was looking at record high temps. A lot of places in the US are suffering record heat waves as well...Global Warming is here. Do you have A/C? I've heard that in some places getting hit with high temps, many people don't have A/C. Anyway, I hope the temps drop for you soon.

Date: 2022-07-17 12:24 pm (UTC)That article you linked is fantastic, thank you! Funnily enough, I got a cooling mat suitable for cats from the garage this morning while we were getting petrol. It was one of the specials they sell and said it was suitable for all animals. I put it down next to the fan downstairs and Milo and Murphy have been taking turns lying on it.
I'm going to have a second read of the article and look for mats for upstairs too. I do think they'll be of benefit.
Yep, Global Warming is here for sure. But sadly A/C isn't really a thing here in personal homes, so it'll be fans going to try and move the air. Thankfully while the forecast is really hot tomorrow and Tuesday, Wed it's supposed to drop ten degrees and thunderstorms move in. So I guess all we can do is hang on until then.

Date: 2022-07-17 10:30 pm (UTC)Wishing James a smooth procedure on Tuesday and thorough healing and recovery afterwards.
That does sound odd to only send a single foot piece! I hope the wraps do help get your legs through the hot weather better despite the counterintuitiveness of covering up.

It must suck majorly to have to wear the compression wraps in that heat.

Date: 2022-07-20 02:54 pm (UTC)Yeah, it does suck. I should really leave them on when I sleep but lately I take them off when I get into bed. I figure that's an okay compromise.
