The heatwave broke this morning, and I'm very glad about that. It's still warm, 22c here right now, but it hit 39c yesterday and yeah, just no. I used all the tips I've gathered from here, all the curtains, blinds and windows closed etc, but the bed and bedding were still hot to touch when we went up last night, and stepping out of the house into a 39c temp and air that was hot and wet was another, nope, moment.

Ideally, we would have stayed in, but it was James' back appointment so had no choice but to go out in the high heat of the day. Thankfully, the procedure went well and we were home around 6pm, plus, excellent air con when we got to the hospital so that was a good bonus.

The bruising is starting to come out on James' back now, but fingers crossed, it seems to be starting to do the job. We went for an early morning walk again this morning and he didn't have to stop due to pain, which is great. What was amusing was they put steroids in as part of the treatment and I swear he's been plugged in since we got home yesterday.

I was trying to sleep last night, sweating in places I'm sure aren't made to sweat -- seriously, I tend to sleep on my stomach and under my chin and neck was sweating against the pillow. I keep saying it but again, nope! Meanwhile, James was chattering ten to the dozen, watched a load of tv, was up and downstairs for a snack and cold drink. Apparently dozed off at 2am and was up again at 4:30.

He was almost as bad this morning, when we had our walk and then visited Bodhi and her mams as it's Lucy's birthday spent an hour or so there. Came home, went off to try his hand at attaching the stag horn to a walking stick, came downstairs for a pyrography session, then crashed big time about ten minutes ago. So is now flat out on the couch and no doubt will be there a while.

Fandom wise I played fic chicken the other night when I was reading a 9-1-1 Were story I was really enjoying and realised that my iPad was about to run out of charge with about four chapters still to go. At that point, I could stop reading and continue the next night, or read as fast as I could and try and finish before the battery hit 0%. I'm sad to say it was Terri 0 iPad 1, as it blinked out with one and a half chapters to go, right in the middle of a big battle scene. You'd think I'd learn but I never do.

I'm so glad the heat broke! It's miserable when it's so hot. (We're currently at 94F (34.4C), but the dogs and I are all keeping cool inside the AC'd house. The walks are a bitca, though.

I'm glad the procedure went well, though I chuckled at the image of James pumped up from the steroids.

I'm sorry you lost to the iPad battery! (I would've sat next to an outlet and kept reading, lol!)

glad the heat broke, and hope it remains more comfortable! I woke up wondering how you'd fared

I've played fic chicken before - it's always such a disappointment when I lose

I'm glad James has the procedure behind him now, and hope he'll get the benefits of it for a while to come! That's funny that it made him so wired though. I hope he got to catch up on some sleep after all that.

And I'm also glad to hear the worst heat has passed. It's a lot to suffer through. :(

Alas for your impromptu cliffhanger! Did you get to find out the ending in the meantime?

I'm glad to hear James' back procedure went well, and amused by his 'plugged in' reaction to the steroids! I hope he has settled down....

Woe for the fanfic chicken!

It was supposed to be cooler today and we were supposed to get rain, but I saw 93 on our thermometer and so far no rain. That's good for my walking, but not so good for the trees Pip planted and the farmers. The grass isn't growing, so no second cutting available yet. (This Saturday it will be three weeks since we've mowed. The flowers and weeds are growing, but no grass. It actually looks funny to see flowers growing on the lawn that usually don't have a chance to, the ones I take photos of on my walks elsewhere.)

He definitely went into the pond yesterday! I tried to get a photo of him and the geese, which remained pretty close to the shore even though he was in the water, but he got out too soon, so all you can see is the mud he stirred up. *g*

I recall the days of not having AC, back when we were growing up. Aside from the apartment I lived in when I went to law school, we didn't have AC in our house until we moved here just over 20 years ago (and that was just in the bedroom). I can't imagine a summer without it now.

It was a funny read, too!

Do you not have an outlet near the couch you could've used for the iPad?

I'm glad James' procedure went well, and what a nice bonus to have the hospital AC! I was hoping you had some respite from the heat, but I was thinking more along the lines of the cinema. I've done that when it was hot and I was poor.

How are the kitties doing with the cool pads? I even looked at those when my AC went out but decided to hold off. I'm glad I did because my AC was fixed before they would have delivered.

Back when I was poor and didn't have AC, I kept a bit of water in the tub, enough to cover my legs. And just left it all day. If I was too hot, I'd strip down, hop in the tub and cool off a bit. It happened often enough that I figured it was cheaper to leave it for at least a few hours, and the water stayed cool enough in the tub. Mom always liked having a damp cloth around her neck when it was hot. I won't be surprised if more homes don't start installing AC units. I think the overall hot temps we're seeing will get far worse in the coming years before they start improving. I mean, this has been forecast as coming for several decades. It really should not be a surprise.

Hooray for a break to the heat! Ours broke last night and though it's now a bit humid +24C is SO MUCH better than the +34C we had yesterday. I don't even want to imagine +39! Let's keep our fingers crossed it will be A LONG TIME before it gets that hot again.

So good to hear James' back procedure went well! (And that you got to escape the heat for a while at the hospital!) Is he still zooming around because of the steroids or have he calmed down by now?

I feel for you! It's so frustrating when you have to stop reading an engrossing fic because of silly things like that!
