Aug. 1st, 2022 12:25 pmIt's the 1st of August and Christmas in July is over on Movies 24. Sadly, with James being off I didn't get to see as many films as I wanted, but no doubt the channel will change to Christmas24 around October, it did last year.
I enjoyed watching the ladies Euro final last night, well done the Lionesses both for the win and the celebrations afterwards that made me smile. After that Kayleigh had asked a favour if I'd print out a wedding speech for one of her work colleagues so we drove to Kayleigh's work after the match and as she works close to the beach, had an evening visit to the coast.
We also had more good news over the weekend as James won his work bonus ball. It only goes on the last draw of the month so has a bigger payout, and James' number was the lotto bonus ball this time, meaning a nice win. Nothing earth-shattering but everything helps.
When he told my MiL she said it would do for our holiday spending, which is true, but really, should be used to pay some bills. I can't remember if I said but we're all going to Butlins at the end of this month. My MiL paid for everyone from the money from her house sale. She wanted a big family holiday so it'll be us, my in-laws and my BiL's mam, sister and nieces, though they're paying for themselves.
Due to James' work schedule at the time we're only booked in from Friday to Monday while the rest are staying for a week. Now James is off my MiL wants us to stay for a week too and is willing to pay the difference. But, for a few reasons, I don't think it's a good idea. There's a good chance he will still be off then, especially if he has his kidney thing at last, and even if he doesn't, his sick time has gone over his main annual leave so that needs to be taken soon. But, he's off to rest and recuperate and a full week at a holiday camp doesn't really support that.
Plus, my in-laws are loud and are going to be extra full on while away which will be a lot over all that time. But most importantly, while our accommodation would be paid for, and the same amount of petrol used either four days or seven, we still need to pay for food and drinks every day and Butlins isn't cheap. Yeah, the entertainment is free but three meals a day plus drinks, including the ones at night add up.
Really, right now I don't know what's going to happen there. I just hope the holiday is as good as my MiL is expecting. She's bought my niece and nephew almost a case of new clothes each, got loads of outfits for herself and is constantly talking about this amazing holiday where we'll enjoy shows, drink cocktails while the bairns get entertained by the redcoats and have a great time. I get that hope, I went to Butlins multiple times both when I was a kid/teen myself and took Corey when he was a kidlet and we all loved it there. But I suspect some rose-tinted glasses are at play, too.

Date: 2022-08-01 05:26 pm (UTC)I can totally see why you wouldn't want to go up there for the entire week. The money is important, and so is James' full recovery.
Yay for won money!

Date: 2022-08-01 11:39 pm (UTC)I do recall you posting about the Butlins plans before and it sounds pretty intense, both in terms of energy and money. I hope that whatever ends up happening doesn't prove to be too much of a drain on either for you and James. And that you get to enjoy the days you're there without being held to unrealistic expectations. ♥

Date: 2022-08-02 10:24 am (UTC)I really do think staying for the weekend is the way to go. It's lovely my MiL is willing to pay for us for the whole week, but yeah, the amount of money and energy needed would be huge. I'd be quite happy to come home on the Monday and get some peace.

Date: 2022-08-02 01:41 pm (UTC)I am worried it'll all go wrong and my MiL will be regretting spending so much money. I suspect a lot of the reason she's wanting us to stay for the week is to have someone else available for the company if the kids get too much. Which they will, that's inevitable.

No, a week at a holiday camp really doesn't sound like a good way to rest and recuperate! Very wise of you to only stay over the weekend. I hope you'll have lots of fun when you're there and I hope your MiL will also have a good time.

Date: 2022-08-03 07:20 am (UTC)Though as much as I love them I still side-eye the decision to play them in October. I don't mind Christmas in July as that's a bit of fun but October just feels too soon. Though yes, I'll still watch them.
I'm sure we will have a good time on holiday, but I am sticking to going for the weekend only. Thankfully my MiL has booked an electric mobility scooter which will take the pressure off a bit as there will be a lot of walking while there.
