Aug. 6th, 2022 02:09 pmAfter 18 weeks waiting for what was supposed to be a three-week at most appointment, James got the date for his kidney op, the day before we're going on holiday. He's going to phone them on Monday to see if it can be changed because even though it's day case only, doing a long drive the day after having a GA isn't going to happen. Plus, no way will he be comfortable after, he needs home, rest and privacy, not a big family holiday.
Other than that it's been decluttering central here. We've done two tip runs and got rid of a load of old stuff, been to the recycle bins and generally started to get things ready for the kitchen refurbishment. The electrician did come and the price has only gone up £50 which was great. He's going to totally change the control/fuse board and bring it down to where we can access it, as right now it's ceiling height. Plus totally rejig the sockets etc so they all actually work because at the moment I can't use the dishwasher and washer at the same time as it blows the sockets if I do so.
This morning we've been to look at kitchens at B&Q and Wrens, mainly to get an idea of what storage is out there and man, if only I had unlimited money. Some of the storage options are amazing, then we went to admire American-style fridge freezers with ice dispensers, but sadly they're both too big and way out of our price range.
We've also kept up our daily walks and they've been going great. Apart from one day where we went somewhere new. When doing that I always check out accessibility websites and this one said this nature reserve had easy-to-walk trails, plus seats. Got there, and maybe there were seats but we never saw them and we ended up turning back because while James can walk increasing distances now if doing so slow and steady, he still needs to know there are benches or somewhere to rest close by, so got overwhelmed at the lack of seating. But, it happened, we're over it, and it's not like we haven't got other nice places to get our walk on.
turlough look what has flowered

Date: 2022-08-06 05:19 pm (UTC)Congrats on the decluttering and yay for all that electrical news!
I have a fridge with an ice maker that we never use (we didn't originally have an ice maker so there are no water lines to where the fridge goes), but I'm used to making ice cubes the old fashioned way. *g*
Yay for your daily walks, but boo for that one place not having seating as advertised. (Can you leave a comment? Maybe they'll fix it. Haha. At the least you'll save someone else the hassle.)

Date: 2022-08-06 06:34 pm (UTC)I remember you were expecting a price increase on the electric work. I'm glad it's a reasonable change. I know it's going to be great once all the work is done! *G*

Date: 2022-08-08 08:45 am (UTC)Yay for reasonable electrical costs! I'm so excited to see how your kitchen turns out!
Stunning sunflower! Turlough will be so proud! *g*

Date: 2022-08-08 04:30 pm (UTC)He is on the cancellation list in case a spot comes free and we can cancel with a full refund up to three days before the start of the holiday. So all we can do is wait now, and if it gets to the week before, cancel the holiday then.
It does suck though, all that waiting and the day before we were due to go. Even the next week would have been fine, or the week before. But no.
The electrician was reasonable, and I'm loving the idea of having a full set of working sockets again. Being able to run the dishwasher and washer at the same time, luxury! Not that we'll be able to afford to actually do so the way power costs are going up.
Man, I'm a ray of sunshine today *g*
But yes, it is stunning! Turlough sends good seeds.

Date: 2022-08-08 04:32 pm (UTC)Thank you! I've been enjoying the decluttering. I love putting stuff away and being able to do so easily without having to create space first.

Date: 2022-08-08 05:26 pm (UTC)Wrens really was something else, offering VR headsets so you could see what your own kitchen would look like with their units. While I'm not using them it was good to look around and get an idea of what is out there.
The sunflower is beautiful, Turlough sent good seeds.

Date: 2022-08-08 05:29 pm (UTC)It's so typical. Of all the dates it could be that was the worst, a week before, a week after, all these months he's been waiting and it's the one time we had something booked. Sadly it can't be changed but he is on a cancellation list so all we can do is hope.
I'm sure the kitchen will be lovely when it's finished. It's all a bit daunting right now, though!

Date: 2022-08-08 05:36 pm (UTC)I've only ever used a fridge with an ice maker when I was on holiday with Camp Sparkle, having ice so readily available was such a novelty, but I suspect the water lines etc would be a pain to arrange. I make ice cubes the old-fashioned way too, or sometimes buy a bag of ice, though if I have to do that it annoys me because I'm paying for something I can make for free.
Can you leave a comment? Maybe they'll fix it. Haha. At the least you'll save someone else the hassle.
I should leave a comment really. They had photos of the benches so I know they were there somewhere, but I think they need to point out there are long stretches of the path with nowhere to sit in sight.

Date: 2022-08-08 05:37 pm (UTC)That's really good new about the electric work however! A much smaller increase in price than you feared.
I know exactly how you feel! Modern kitchens have SO many cool features! Why don't I have lots of money and why don't I live somewhere I could install a new kitchen?!
Good to hear you're keeping up with your daily walks. I remember you lamenting that you had become so lazy during covid.
Ooh, your sunflower is beautiful!! Such a gorgeous colour.

Date: 2022-08-09 10:58 am (UTC)My s-i-l has one, and it is convenient. Sometimes remembering to make more ice is an issue. *g*
Yeah, that's very misleading.

Date: 2022-09-04 03:05 pm (UTC)Well as I suck and am late replying, you know nothing could be changed. But, at least the first bad parts are over with now.
Why don't I have lots of money and why don't I live somewhere I could install a new kitchen?!
I wish I had the money to get all the cool features I want, and a bigger space. There's so much out there if you can pay for it but sadly, I suspect most things will remain things to be enjoyed from afar.
I remember you lamenting that you had become so lazy during covid.
Yep. You remember well.
And the sunflower continued to bloom and now has five heads on one stalk which is amazing.
