We went to see DCs The League of Super-Pets at the cinema yesterday. It's obviously a cartoon/film aimed at kids but it was fun and I liked how they weren't afraid to poke fun at all the DC characters, and a few Marvel ones too.

Today we've been to Beamish, the local open-air living museum. I've talked about it before but I really like that once you buy your ticket you can go as often as you like for a year. So, on days like today, when it was really busy it doesn't matter that it's too crowded to see a lot of stuff.

The new 50s playground was open so we got to see that, had a ride on quite a few of the old buses, sat in the sunshine and walked loads. I was so proud of James today, we sat waiting for a bus and tram for ages but all the ones going past were full so he decided to walk to the next village we wanted to see. Yes it wasn't the fastest walk and we stopped often but he made it.

The new 50's village also had a village hall and they'd set up part of it like the maternity meetings from Call the Midwife, of interest was the lovely knitted/crocheted baby complete with attached placenta.

Also the playground made me smile as walking towards it we were wondering if they'd have the horse of death there, and they did! Those things were vicious and if you were the person on the back seat you were in danger of being catapulted off. Of course, back in the day they didn't have soft rubber flooring like they do now, back then you'd land on concrete or compacted dirt and, ouch.

The cucumber notice also made me laugh, it's so dramatic over the theft of a large CUCUMBER!

What a lovely day out! I don't think I've ever seen something like the horse of death on a playground here - it looks quite intimidating.

A LARGE CUCUMBER!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and your visit to Beamish! I've never seen the horse of death, but it reminds me a bit of our see-saw, which can be nearly as dangerous. *g* (Some images here if you're not familiar.)

Great pictures, although the knitted baby and placenta are just weird and kind of ooky. Knitters will knit anything. *g*

Good morning!

Just like Riika I always love to hear about your visits to Beamish! It seems to be such a fabulous place. And so large! I would love to visit it some day.

The horse of death sounds totally scary but how does it work?

The cucumber notice made me giggle.

Oh! It's a rocking horse for several people! I wonder who invented them - it looks like an invitation to disaster to me. At least back in the day when they didn't have a soft surface underneath. Here in Sweden I've only ever seen small ones that only seats a single (rather small) child and they don't rock very much either.
