Aug. 10th, 2022 08:20 amWe're heading out for the day with my MiL in a few hours. No idea where but probably inland because it's going to be close to 30c again today and the beaches will be rammed.
My brother got in touch yesterday and operation kitchen refurb is a go from next Monday.
On Monday Chris is coming to take down the upper units, that same day we're getting five blinds replaced. I'm not mentioning any names but since we got a certain cat, two of the blinds have missing slats where someone has jumped at them while watching the leaves blow. Though to be fair, the blinds are old now, look scruffy, and are well past when they needed replacing.
Tuesday I need to paint the walls where the units have been. Considering they haven't been touched above the units for over 20 years I suspect a few coats will be needed.
Wednesday the electrician is coming. It's also Bodhi's first birthday. She's having a big party so I hope the electric work doesn't take too long. Though if it does I'll be heading to the party and James will have to attend late.
Thursday or Friday my brother is going to start the ceiling.
Every day, I'll spend time fretting at spending so much. Yes, this is money specifically set aside for the kitchen but still, omg and ouch.
The week after I image the bulk of the units will be fitted, countertops etc. Plus, James has his op on the Thursday.
In terms of that, it turns out he couldn't reschedule. They're mega backed up in the unit right now and if he had tried to reschedule it could have been months again before he got a new date. That's not just workable for multiple reasons, especially as halfway through next month his pay will drop to half if he's still off.
He is on the cancellation list so fingers crossed an earlier spot could happen if people drop out, but obviously, we can't rely on that. Thankfully, the holiday can be cancelled for a full refund up to three days before so we're waiting for now but waiting while resigned that the holiday probably won't happen.
But, on the plus side, shiny new kitchen eventually, my brother is taking on all of the organisation which is a huge help, James will hopefully finally get some answers soon and another holiday will happen at some point.

Date: 2022-08-10 09:41 am (UTC)Awww kitty, you could say they’ve been helping considering the blinds are old
It all sounds so busy and stressful!

Date: 2022-08-10 05:17 pm (UTC)Ahahaha, that's true. Murphy, or should I say, unnamed cat, helping the refurb on.
Yeah, everything is happening at once again.

Date: 2022-08-10 01:09 pm (UTC)Yay for new kitchen right around the corner! Ugh for all the prep you need to do. (Unless you enjoy painting and such, in which case, yay! *g*) Though it sounds like a lot is going to be happening in the next few weeks.
LOL to not naming names!
I hope James is able to get in earlier and that you can still go away for the weekend.

Date: 2022-08-10 05:15 pm (UTC)Well, I don't mind painting but it's not my favourite thing to do so I can't say I'm looking forward to it. Especially all the high bits where I'll be stuck on a ladder and hoping I won't fall off and break a limb *g*
It would be great if he got a cancellation spot, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Date: 2022-08-10 05:13 pm (UTC)We did have fun, my MiL treated us to a delicious lunch and we had a very nice drive and a short walk in the sunshine. Which was just the right amount of activity for the temperature.

Date: 2022-08-11 04:26 am (UTC)The kitchen remodeling does sound like a ton of work, but I hope the investment of both effort and money will feel worth it when you get to the other end of it. Having a well laid out, well functioning kitchen can make life so much better! - Also, I admire your discretion in preserving the public reputation of any cat in question.

Not sure the cat in question deserves discretion mind you *g*
You're right having the kitchen well functioning will be worth it. I've just been painting the tiles today and will have to do another coat when that's dry. Having brand new ones would have been better but the money only stretches so much.

Date: 2022-08-11 01:03 pm (UTC)I'm sure the updated kitchen will be wonderful!
Funny...I have a certain unnamed cat who does some strange/destructive things as well. My unnamed cat has certainly broken and damaged more things in a year than all my other cats combined. And that's saying something! LOL
Happy birthday to Bodhi!
I do hope James can reschedule, but I think that's the right choice, to have the surgery done and reschedule the holiday if needed. It's nice that you can cancel for a full refund if needed.

Snap! I was just thinking that myself, all of my girls combined haven't damaged or broken as much stuff as the unnamed one. I swear they're brothers from other mothers over the ocean *g*
James is resigned that the rescheduling probably won't happen, but the holiday will at some point. My MiL said yesterday if we do have to cancel she'll give us the money she'll get refunded and we can book somewhere else later in the year. Obviously, it won't be the same as the big family holiday, but it's something.

Date: 2022-08-21 04:38 pm (UTC)But yeah, it's been a strange few months, nothing wildly exciting happening and a lot of waiting before things happened together.
You're very right about health needing to be prioritised though. It is disappointing about the holiday but there will be others.

Date: 2022-08-12 07:11 am (UTC)But my MiL was fine about the situation when we were out for the day and looking at it now I can't blame her for reacting the way she did as she was looking forward to this big family holiday so much.
Oh man, the money, again, ouch. It was bad enough yesterday paying for the paint and painting supplies. I may need a lie down when we have to shell out for the big stuff *g*

Date: 2022-08-14 04:36 pm (UTC)ALL the good luck with the kitchen refurbishing! I'm keeping everything crossed it will go very smoothly! I don't know if it helps but remember how long you had the old kitchen. The new one is sure to last at least as long and if you divided the renovation cost with the number of years it won't sound quite so expensive.
I'm also keeping my fingers crossed there will be a cancellation James can take advantage of so you won't have to cancel your holiday!
