Sep. 16th, 2022 03:32 pmPoor Bodhi ended up at children's A&E two days ago, she had a non-blanching rash and was being sick so they took her in just to be safe. Turns out she has gastroenteritis and a viral rash, poor little thing. She's on the mend now, though.
I have to admit to keeping looking at #TheQueue on twitter, so many serious tweets, informative tweets and ones that made me laugh. This tweet is pretty much where I'm at, where I know the whole thing is ridiculous, but I can't help watching and boggling that some people are now one hour into waiting in the queue to join The Queue-- and due to the feed I've just spent ten minutes watching David Beckham on the Livestream.
The temperature dropped a lot overnight so our walk today included a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. As always nice enough but not my favourite flavour, but something I always feel I need to buy at least once in autumn. It didn't help that the place we went to was obviously understaffed and every table was full of dirty cups.
We had originally planned to go to the cinema today as new films were due to start, but all new stuff has been pushed back until Tuesday. Films are still playing, just the ones we want to see are too late and the ones in the afternoon we've seen or have no desire to see.
Tomatoes and courgettes from my garden, plus mushrooms and shallots roasted for part of tea tonight. Just the thing for a slightly chilly day I feel.

Date: 2022-09-17 03:17 pm (UTC)I'm also enjoying the stories about David Beckham, especially that he bought doughnuts for many people. The Queue has to be bad enough without having your photo taken all the time, but he seemed to just get on with it. So, kudos to him for that.

Date: 2022-09-17 03:33 pm (UTC)I knew we wouldn't be able to go to the cinema on Monday, because it's closed, everything is closed, supermarkets, cafes the lot. But I didn't expect them to delay the new films too. I really don't get the reasoning.

Date: 2022-09-17 03:39 pm (UTC)I can see that standing in the Queue is a once in a lifetime thing, really. I mean, the Queen has been Queen for the entirety of so many peoples' lives I can see that they'd want to pay their respects and this will be their only option to do so as she lies in state. However...I can't see waiting in queue for 22-24+ hours just to be cattle herded past a casket. I gather each person only gets a few seconds to view the casket before being herded on.
I have great respect for the Queen (and share her love of horses), but I'm with you on a hard pass to spending hours waiting in the queue for a glance and maybe a photo op, if that's someone's thing.
I do love the story going around about the Queen meeting an American couple on holiday while taking a hike, and they didn't recognize her. They asked her if she'd ever met the Queen. She did say no, then took a photo with them. I do hope they showed the photo to other people and that someone did tell them THEY met the Queen. That's a lovely story! It would be awesome if the couple came forward and shared that photo. I wonder if they never did know, but maybe with that story going around, people are checking their old vacation photos!

Date: 2022-09-18 07:07 pm (UTC)Pumkin spice sounds such a weird thing to add to coffee, but I suppose it IS suitably autumnal :-)
Roasted mushrooms and shallots do indeed sound PERFECT for a chilly autumn day!

Date: 2022-09-19 02:37 pm (UTC)I'd love to know who first thought of pumpkin spice. It seems to be everywhere now but also not something I'd think, pumpkin will taste great in a coffee.
The roasted mushrooms and shallots were delicious. So much so I'm having it again today.

Date: 2022-09-19 02:39 pm (UTC)The Queue has kept me entertained for days now. It seemed to take on a life of its own, and I suspect I'll remember the footage of all those people queueing for a long time.
Thankfully Bodhi is fine now. Just gave her mams a huge scare.

Yep, I'm there with you. I also respect her, as a person and how she tirelessly did her duty for so long, but while I wouldn't mock the people who did queue, no way would I have done the same. You couldn't even have a photo op as it was strictly no cameras/phones plus very strict flight-like security that meant you couldn't take in liquids or food after a certain point. Which is understandable from a security point, but did mean a lot of people had to throw stuff away, for example, one woman had to get rid of a bottle of very expensive perfume.
It was literally all those hours waiting in a never stopping queue, so no real time to sleep or rest well, walk into the hall, stop for a second in front of the coffin, pay your respects and move on. So yeah, not for me.
That is an excellent story and one that shows her sense of humour nicely. I also wonder if they ever realised they had met the Queen.

Date: 2022-09-19 08:22 pm (UTC)That's the story. So she did say, although she'd never met the Queen that the gentleman accompanying her (her security) ran into the Queen quite often! LOL
