Sep. 29th, 2022 04:10 pmMilo had his appointment at the vets yesterday and she thinks his kidney disease has got worse because she can feel two masses where his kidneys are, suggesting they're deformed in some way. He had bloods taken and has antibiotics as he has sore gums too but now it's a case of waiting for the results early next week. He's still okay in himself, eating, drinking etc, just lost a load of weight and looks his age.
Today we took my MiL out for a drive and something to eat. We'd just got her home when James got a phone call from the hospital saying they've managed to bring his op forward until next Friday, which is just one day after the six weeks, so I was surprised at that. I can't say either of us is looking forward to a potential repeat of the rough weeks from last time, but hopefully, this time answers will be found.
But man, is it wrong to say I've developed a strong dislike for a body organ? Because I really have.
Going back to the vets again. I was talking to a lady there who had taken in her cat and was told he was overweight. The vet had suggested she feed it courgette or cucumber, but of course, with the skin taken off. We were laughing about that together as while I suspect the vet meant them mashed, both of us were thinking about cucumber and courgette rounds and the cat snacking on them. I mean, maybe some cats would eat that, but I can just imagine the look I'd get if I ever served that to any of my cats.
ETA: I was just checking my emails and saw I've been sent a virtual gift for being on LJ for 20 years. Which is just, whoa. 20 years man. It's not my main platform now but it blows my mind I have friends on there that have been there from the first day I joined. Any many many more that maybe weren't there from the first but have been around for not long after. 20 years or a matter of months, I hope you know I appreciate you all, both on DW and LJ ♥

I think we’d have a riot if ever I tried to give my cat those!

I know, right? It's honestly the first time I've heard anyone suggest serving courgettes or cucumber to a cat.

Date: 2022-09-29 09:33 pm (UTC)I'm thinking of James, and hoping things go smoothly
as a kid we had a cat who *loved* cantaloupe - like, steal rinds out of the garbage to gnaw on. so maybe there's one out there who'd enjoy cucumber and courgette?

Cats, I should have known there were ones out there that loved fruit *g*

Happy LJ-versary! What a milestone, even with the migration away from that platform. A toast to long-standing friendships!

Date: 2022-09-30 06:37 pm (UTC)*fingers crossed* that this surgery and recovery go more smoothly for James.
I've heard that you should give dogs pumpkin puree for upset stomach, so maybe it's something like that? (I may have tried it a time or two when one of our dogs was feeling out of sorts; I don't recall a great love for it.)

Date: 2022-10-01 01:31 pm (UTC)We once had a cat who would literally chase you around the house for yellow raisins or canteloupe. I think the only thing I found that he wouldn't eat were nuts. I never saw him even try to eat a nut. But anything else, he'd give it a shot and loved a lot of weird things, like pumpkin pie, including the crust. I had a friend whose cat loved munching on iceberg lettuce. So yeah, not every cat would go for it, but some might.
Happy LJversary! I remember you were one of the very first people to friend me over there. I believe Feb 2023 will be 18 years for me, so it's been quite a while!

Date: 2022-10-01 02:06 pm (UTC)I'm enjoying reading about all these weird foods cats eat. Though shouldn't be surprised as cats will cat. I'm highly amused at the iceberg lettuce-loving cat. I should try Murphy with that *g*
It has been quite a while. Who would have thought we'd still be comment nattering so many years later?

Date: 2022-10-01 02:11 pm (UTC)Thank you. I hope it does and this time next week the worst will be over and just healing to go.
I suspect the vet must have meant a puree and I guess it makes sense to try bland things that are also bulky. But from comments some cats eat weird things, so some may enjoy nibbling on a peeled cucumber *g*

Date: 2022-10-01 04:32 pm (UTC)How wonderful that they managed to bring James' op forward! I'm keeping everything crossed it will be a great success and that he'll have an easy recovery afterwards!
*giggles* Lancecat would just had LOOKED at me if I'd tried to serve him veggies of any kind.
Twenty years is a long time even offline, online it's an eternity! To think that we've known each other for seventeen of them is almost unbelievable to me. It doesn't feel that it was that long ago we first got acquinted!

So, on the animal food thing: I am trying hard to keep Brain's weight under control (he gains weight easy and has dodgy joints, which is not a great combo). So, his dinner gets supplemented with carrot mixed into wet food to give him bulk without calories, right? Pinky has also put on some weight, so I tried to give him the same, and came back to find his empty bowl sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by tiny pieces of carrot which had been sucked clean of the wet food and then spat out in a perfect circle. Apparently, we do not eat vegetables!

Date: 2022-10-06 03:09 pm (UTC)I hope he does have an easy recovery. This time tomorrow I'd like to think it was all over but the recovery. This seems to have been going for months mow.
Yeah, I would have got a LOOK if I served veggies to any of my cats. The thought still makes me laugh.
17 years is so long. I mean, I know many of you have been around for ages, especially as Corey was in junior school and I remember posting about what he was doing. But seeing it written down is just, wow. And then people like Castalie I've known for years pre LJ, so she's been around for 20-plus years which is another wow. I'm so glad I got to know you.

Date: 2022-10-06 03:11 pm (UTC)Kidneys suck. And yes, I know we need them, but they still suck.
Milo's tests came back with good levels. 21 with three legs and he's still going. I do know he won't last forever and as soon as he's in pain I'll have to make decisions, but right now he's doing well.

That is an excellent story! *g*

Who would have thought online friends could still stick around for so long? It's lovely to know I've shared a little part of the world with you for so many years.
