The Musketeer fandom has seamlessly slid from Sicktember to Whumptober it seems. This is a good thing, except, it means lots of short under 2k stories each day when I'm greedy and want epics for each prompt. What I should do is wait until the end of the month and read them all at once, but sadly I'm not that sensible.
James got a text about his pre-op assessment. His appointment is at 8:30 tomorrow which means it'll be a hospital heavy week as apart from tomorrow and his actual op on Friday, we've agreed to take my MiL to an appointment there on Wednesday. I just hope they don't want to take more bloods tomorrow, as if they do the appointment will change from something relatively quick to an all morning affair.
I also realised we're going to miss Houghton Feast. That's the local annual fair and the opening ceremony is on Friday night with the parade on Saturday and fireworks on Monday. It's a shame but obviously the medical stuff is more important.
The man came out to measure for our new kitchen floor today and made noises about bouncy floor boards so I'm not looking forward to that quote. We also bought some second hand interior doors from Facebook Marketplace and my brother picked them up for us and stored them in the garage. They're not perfect but they're much better than what we have and with a limited budget I can't always afford or get perfect.
Sadly my brother's work partner's mam has just died so he won't be working for a while. I've told Chris it's not an issue but he's still going to try and do the things he can solo when possible.
I'm just about to go visit Kayleigh and Bodhi for a few hours, then have a Too Good to Go magic bag to pick up from Harvester. It's the first one I've had from there so I'm hoping for some good stuff.

Date: 2022-10-02 06:10 pm (UTC)I hope the appointment does not require blood as I recall how horrible the last one was.
*fingers crossed* that the floor quote isn't too bad. Yay for new doors!
I hope your visit was lovely.

Date: 2022-10-03 12:56 pm (UTC)Thankfully no blood needed to be taken today. It was close as on questioning he scored high enough for diabetic testing but the nurse said as he'd been tested for that twice this year, the latest only 6 weeks ago and had normal results both times she was happy to say it wasn't needed this time, especially with his bad blood taking history.
I did have a lovely visit, though Bodhi had a cold so there was a lot of snot avoiding *g*

Date: 2022-10-03 12:52 pm (UTC)And it's a pity about the fair. Between your vacation plans and this, scheduling has just not been kind to you lately!
It really hasn't. Kayleigh is going with Lucy and Bodhi and suggested I meet up with them and James said he'd be fine left alone. But the way his health luck is going this year he'd probably fall off the couch and break his arm or something. So I'll miss it this year.
The floor and doors will be the finishing touches and should look nice. It's a shame we can't afford new everything but the money only stretches so far.

That's such a shame about the Feast! You have such bad luck this year - everything seems to collide in the worst way.
Bouncy floorboards sound ominous. I hope it won't be as costly as you fear!

Well the pre-op went okay, taking my MiL to the hospital in a few hours. So that'll be two down by the end of the day.
But yeah, it is bad luck about the Feast. I really do enjoy the ceremonies, especially the parade. But, I'll be okay with listening to the music and the scent of the fair, toffee apples and candy floss this year.
The bouncy floorboards were a bit worrying. The man said he could board the whole room and then add the lino on top, the problem is of course, how much that will cost.

Date: 2022-10-09 03:16 pm (UTC)It depends on the shop, I've had some excellent ones and ones that weren't worth the money. Though if they're too bad TGTG will refund what you've paid.
Greggs tend to be good, though when I buy them always seem to end up with Yum Yums for some reason. The majority of the bags from Costa has been good, especially the time when the bag contained a full tray of chocolate muffins. Morrisons grocery has been a bit hit or miss, sometimes really good selection of fruit, vegetables and bakery, other times just bread which is disapointing.
I've had a Toby Carvery breakfast which was nice enough, but a bit weird unless you can eat straight away as you get the warm leftovers all put together in a container. Yo Sushi also tends to have good bags if you can ever get one. But the best bag I've seen was actually from Company. It wasn't me but a friend and their bag was about two bread trays worth of products, including 10 packs of kebabs. I've tried to get a bag from their myself but they go in an instant, but one day I'll manage it. And hopefully won't just come home with 50 iceburg lettuces *g*
You know what I love the most about the kitchen? The new electrical points. It makes such a difference to be able to run the washer and dishwasher at the same time, and to be able to plug in the kettle without unplugging something else first. I've had to use an extension lead for so long that having all those points, and knowing all the wiring is safe, feels fantastic. I also really like the intergrated fridge, though could do with a step stool to be able to look at the top shelf properly.
Oh, and the new tap is the kind where you can pull the end off and direct the water flow around the sink via a little attached hose. I think that's so handy. Just little things that don't feel significant when written down but make a lot of difference.
