Oct. 30th, 2022 07:01 amThe clocks going back always throws me a little, woke up to my bedroom clock saying 6, got downstairs and realised it was only just after 5. Oh well, it means a good start on the day and I did get a good sleep.
Yesterday was a bit up and down. We went to visit my MiL and just happened to be there when her consultant popped in
It was basically the serious chat about DNRs and how they think if she does go downhill quickly they wouldn't be able to operate or do anything beyond basic measures and would she want resuscitation attempting baring in mind it would probably fail, and also the same conversation about how she wouldn't survive going to ICU.
I did check she didn't mind me being there for that talk, but my MiL told me to stay and has pretty much said, no attempts to bring her back at all. She's not at the verge of death now or anything, but I think everyone is aware that could change quickly.
She's going to attempt to get healthier as best she can in terms of diet and gentle exercise while enjoying her life, but understands at last she really has been poorly and has been lucky this time.
She's going to be sent home on 24/7 oxygen. Mam was on that so I know it's quite possible to live like that, it just takes an extra bit of organisation when going out and making sure the portable bottles are always full. But I know it's still going to be hard on her.
I suspect it'll be the end of this week before she's out, maybe more, it depends on how quickly the oxygen can be sorted.
After leaving the hospital we drove the cinema to see Bros, which was a lot of fun. Though apparently not a popular film as there was only us and six other people in the whole really big screen. Four of whom walked out after the first sex scene. But yeah, I enjoyed it and Luke Macfarlane remains made of sunshine and happiness.
I didn't get to meet with Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi the other day, but did the next day and as always it was fun to hang with them. Bodhi had her first babychino, which thankfully, was free as she spent more time blowing bubbles with her straw than actually drinking.
My brother did turn up when he was supposed to and the kitchen now has the up-stands around the counter-tops. I thought these would be just something to seal the backs, but they're actually solid pieces the same design of the counters that go up the wall a touch. Sadly, still no freezer cupboard door due to supply issues so I'm starting to get the feeling the kitchen won't be fully done until after Christmas. Chris is fully booked job wise until mid-December, which is great for him and his work partner as new business owners, but does mean they're fitting us in when they can, add on the supply issues and yeah, new year is a possibility.
He did suggest we get a splashback for behind the hob which will go up the wall and stop under the extractor. It will look better than the tiles, which look nicer painted but obviously would look nicer still with new tiles. But depends on cost as we're very close to our limit in terms of what we can afford, especially with still having the lino to sort out.
The man doing that will maybe turn up today to start the prep work. He says it's weather dependent which I assume means he needs to be outside to cut the support wooden boards, which he couldn't do if it was raining. Despite not knowing if he's coming yet I've had to get everything off the floor in the kitchen and hallway, just the cat litter trays to move when he gets in touch.
I hope he does come today as this week is going to be busy. I realised it was my B12 injection on Tuesday, which also made me realise the same day I have my first maintenance lymph bandaging, then back again on the Thursday.
Also on Thursday, I think I've mentioned before but Re.F.Use, the cafe we go to that uses surplus donated food to cook with often has restaurant theme nights. They're usually £17.50 each for three courses plus drinks you buy on top on the night. They put out a FB post saying ticket sales have been dropping and they realised times were tough right now, so they encouraged people to fill in a survey saying how much they could afford if they wanted to go to one of those nights. I did so, saying we could do one of the options which was half price -- because I know £17.50 a person isn't that much really, but it's still nearly double what we try to pay when eating out, especially now when James is on half pay, and got an email back inviting us to the Bonfire Night special and doesn't the menu look delicious

Date: 2022-10-30 12:17 pm (UTC)Hopefully, the supply issues sort themselves out soon and you can have your new kitchen up and running at least by Christmas. But if not, I'm sure you'll be glad to have it all done whenever it does happen.
So you and James ended up with a big screen all to yourselves? Years ago, I used to go to the Weds matinees (back in the 80s). They were only $2.50 per movie, which was at least half price or better. I was often the only person there, or maybe me and some seniors as it was during the working day (I worked at a restaurant. Sundays and Wednesdays were my days off). Anyway, I usually chose the 3rd row, pretty close to center and normally, since there were never more than 10 people in the entire theatre, everyone was spread out. One time, I was by myself until AFTER the movie started, then someone came in and sat right behind me. I mean, WTH? The movie was The Silence of the Lambs. I was totally freaked out by this person being directly behind me and the moment the film ended, I immediately left by the front exit just next to the screen, which opened right into the parking lot. I will never forget how creepy that was!

Date: 2022-10-30 01:27 pm (UTC)The kitchen is perfectly usable but I'll be pleased when all the last details are done. Like today, the boards are down on the floor now and the lino will go on within the next two weeks. But to do that the kickboards had to be taken off and Chris will have to shorten them down a little. So we're back to having those stretched along the hall again.
Also, the cats love going under the unit and are even worse now the kickboards are gone. I even caught Milo slithering back out earlier.
No, there was one couple left along with us in the whole big screen. I had to nip out to the toilet and it was so weird to come back to see all the empty seats, James in one row, the other two the row behind.
Your example made me smile as that's the seats we always pick, row C in the centre, and in my case, the other two people row D but at the end. I would have been a bit creeped out in an empty screen and someone sat directly behind me, especially that film and after it had started. I would have fled at the end too.

Date: 2022-10-30 03:05 pm (UTC)Once the theaters around here went to stadium seating, I do try to get that first row in the upper section. The lower section I think are usually original seating, then there is a wide walkway that splits the two sections. So the first row of the stadium seating has a railing you can use as a footrest, and no one can sit directly in front of you. So, center of that first row of stadium seating is perfection!
Of course, I haven't been to a theater in years now. It's just too pricey and really, most movies just don't interest me. I also don't like this new thing where you have to buy your tickets online. What happens if I can't pull my ticket up when I'm there? What if my phone dies or I'm simply too technologically challenged to figure it out? I don't go to sports things anymore for the same reason, too pricey, and I want to be able to go when the mood strikes, not book it days ahead of time.

Date: 2022-10-30 03:18 pm (UTC)Our cinema is online booking only now, and you even have to use a kiosk or the app to order food and drink. I get why they did it when they reopened after Covid shut everything down, but I do think it should be possible to order at the counter too.

Date: 2022-10-30 03:00 pm (UTC)That Bonfire Night has a great price and yummy-looking menu, indeed!
Good luck with the kitchen!

Date: 2022-10-30 03:14 pm (UTC)Everything looks very tasty on the Bonfire Night menu, the only issue is, the night starts at 7pm. I'm normally on the couch in my pjs watching tv a few hours away from bed then *g*
The kitchen now has the boards down. So another step forward.

Date: 2022-10-30 05:50 pm (UTC)I'm very curious about what kind of movie those people thought they were going to see?!! Had they not looked at the trailer at all? o_O
Yay for being able to see Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi!!
I'm sorry you're still sort of in limbo with the kitchen.
That dinner does sound lovely.

Date: 2022-12-10 03:05 pm (UTC)It was a hard conversation but I remain glad we were there. As you said, we now know her wishes which is important.
Bros was fun, I'm glad I got to see it as it was a film I was looking forward to.

Date: 2022-10-31 12:41 am (UTC)I keep hearing about supply chain issues in discussions of building and remodeling here, too. (I guess it is a global system nowadays.) Fingers crossed for the wait for the door to be as short as possible!
Also hope all your appointments this week go smoothly. And that dinner menu looks amazing, bon appetit!

Date: 2022-10-31 03:49 pm (UTC)I agree, at the time I hated the conversations we had with mam and her doctor in terms of DNR, but after I was glad the conversations had happened, because we all knew exactly what she wanted, or didn't want.
So many things seem to be limited in terms of supplies, and you're right it does seem to be world wide. Thankfully, it's not a door that's essential, but it would be nice to have it at last.
We had to make our menu choices this morning and send them off. It took James about half an hour to decide what dessert he wanted *g*

Date: 2022-11-01 06:29 pm (UTC)That sounds like it was a difficult but necessary conversation for MiL. I hope the 24/7 oxygen will work well for her!
It must feel very frustrating that you might not have a finished kitchen before Christmas. Stupid delivery issues!
I hope the bandaging went well today!
The Bonfire Night menu sounds delicious!

Date: 2022-12-10 02:14 pm (UTC)My MiL is getting on okay with the oxygen though still hasn't been out with her portable bottle yet. But, at least she's got the supplies to do so when she does.
The Bonfire Night menu sounds delicious!
It was very tasty.

Date: 2022-11-01 10:56 pm (UTC)It's all go with your house - sounds like it's SO CLOSE to being totally done though, which will be so lovely (and you'll not have to be up early with a spotless kitchen, which is always a help!),
That menu looks BRILLIANT, Re.F.Use is such a fantastic idea and they really seem to be so aware of their community, too.

Date: 2022-12-10 02:16 pm (UTC)It was a hard conversation but I'm glad we were there for it. I always remember having the same talk with mam and her doctor, and the yellow envelope she was given with those instructions to keep in the house. And while it didn't help when she did pass at least I knew she went in her own way.
It's all go with your house - sounds like it's SO CLOSE to being totally done though, which will be so lovely (and you'll not have to be up early with a spotless kitchen, which is always a help!),
And it just got worse. Though I could laugh and not stop when I think that the kitchen still isn't done.

Date: 2022-12-10 02:19 pm (UTC)It was fun seeing the movie in such an empty theatre, though I still can't believe people walked out. They must have known what they were going to see.
Your comment about not wanting to watch surrounded by strangers reminded me of when I went to see Magic Mike XXL. There was me and James, and a group of very drunk and very, shall we say, enthusiastic women, watching in the whole theatre. Now that was a strange experience.
