Nov. 6th, 2022 04:25 pmIt was sad news about Aaron Carter, not surprising as his life has been messed up for a long time, but still sad.
Mini wrimo continues to go well, especially yesterday as while looking at Gdocs I wondered what the last unnamed file in there actually was, and found a Musketeers thing I'd started in the summer. Thinking back it was supposed to be for the Sunshine Challenge but I just never finished it, so I did yesterday. I think I may post it as well as the bandom ficlet to A03 and call them the mini wrimo collection, unbeta read, read at your own risk, and then add anything else I come up with.
It's the start of the Christmas advert season. So far I've enjoyed Asda and Buddy the Elf and the Lidlteddy bear. The advert itself isn't that special but I like how they're not actually selling the bear but using it to launch a toy collection drive in their shops. Still lots of the biggies to come, including John Lewis, so I'll be watching for those.
I met Lucy, Kayleigh and Bodhi for breakfast at Costa this morning. I wanted to try the new Toblerone range of drinks and the latte was nice, though I gave Bodhi the Toblerone mini that came with it. If you follow me on insta there is a photo of us there.
I was talking to
dine in comments about how Re.F.Use was having a Thanksgiving restaurant in a few weeks. I like the idea of a Thanksgiving meal and have virtually invited myself to many US flist friends' celebrations over the years so considered going to this one. While it would have been full price it would have also been a few days before James' birthday so it would have worked as his celebration meal. Sadly, the tickets sold like wildfire and were all gone when we decided to book.
But, I did tell Dine I should share the menu and see if it stood up as a Thanksgiving meal, though I am aware there are a lot of regional variations. Also, in the post attached to the menu, they said how turkey wasn't involved simply because all donated turkeys would be used for the meal they put on for free for anyone in need on Christmas day. Menu is
Most of it sounds nice, but I must admit, I remain dubious at the thought of marshmallows in a main dish.

Date: 2022-11-06 05:08 pm (UTC)The first time we visited was on a Monday, so it says a lot for the atmosphere that James actually went back as he's a big meat lover.

Date: 2022-11-06 06:58 pm (UTC)I'm doing well with mini_wrimo, too! Even yesterday, when I didn't think I'd have time for anything, I managed to get 350 words written.
Yay for meeting up for breakfast!
Bummer you couldn't get tickets to that meal.

Date: 2022-11-06 08:29 pm (UTC)it's too bad you couldn't get tickets for the Thanksgiving dinner - the menu looks pretty good, though a bit different from the 'traditional' American version. but I appreciate their saving the turkeys for the free Xmas dinner. the sweet potato/marshmallow thing is very traditional for many families, though not mine. and I've never understood the appeal myself

Date: 2022-11-06 09:45 pm (UTC)I have managed to not watch a single Christmas advert, but I think that might be because I haven't turned the TV on in 10 days!

Setting aside the absence of turkey, that menu looks reasonably Thanksgiving-esque. I would have expected mashed potatoes rather than potato salad, but at least the potato food group is covered! The one thing that baffles me is the pancakes. I've never heard of pancakes being served as dessert (I mean, stack pancakes and not crepes). But they do sound yummy, however non-traditional.

That's a good point about the mashed potatoes, and I would assume they would be easier to cook too.
I've enjoyed reading the comments about the meal and how traditional it actually is. I do like the idea of a Thanksgiving meal, I mean, it may not be as nice in reality or maybe more, stress to sort out in reality, but looking from afar I can get behind having a good feed.

Date: 2022-11-07 08:16 am (UTC)Ahahaha, yeah, that will do it in terms of not seeing the adverts. Saying that you've had much better things to do than watch TV.

Date: 2022-11-07 08:45 am (UTC)I suspected the menu would be off a little in terms of the typical traditional version, but I like reading all the comments about it.
You know, while I am dubious about the sweet potato and marshmallow thing, I would have liked to try it just to say that I had. Though I suspect I wouldn't try again *g*

Date: 2022-11-07 08:48 am (UTC)Oh wow, that's great about your word count. It's amazing how a challenge can prompt a person.
I know, I wish I could have got tickets but it wasn't to be. I couldn't believe how fast they all went.

Toblerone latte sounds quite nice.
Too bad you missed the Thanksgiving meal, the menu looks quite interesting. But marshmallow on sweet potatoes sounds just WRONG! (Not that I ever think that marshmallows are right ;-)

The thanksgiving menu looks so fun, I always think it looks so close to our traditional xmas feast but not quite :D

It really is sad. Celebs have so much, but often at so much cost. Add in mental health issues, addictive personalities etc and it's no wonder so many struggle.
I've always wanted to try a Thanksgiving feast. I know I look at them through rose-coloured glasses but it must be nice to go to loved ones and have lots of tasty food.

I don't mind a marshmallow every now and then, but not in a savoury dish!
