My youngest nephew turned seven yesterday, so we headed out for lunch with him and the in-laws. We only went to a local carvery but it was nice and after seeing someone else do so, I asked for a takeaway container for my leftovers so I didn't have to make tea either.

We were supposed to go see Pauline after, to sort out our Christmas meal, but by the time we'd eaten and everyone had been driven home it was getting late. So we just drove to the pub/restaurant where we're having the meal with Pauline and her daughter, Chris and his family and I put in a reservation and got the menu so everyone can pick what they want as your choices need to be pre-chosen. It's not the best place to eat, a typical chain pub but Pauline loves it there as she went weekly with dad and all the staff knew them, plus as a bonus, the dessert includes pieces of cake as big as your head, and we always come home with them as no one ever has room to eat them at the actual meal. So, that will happen the last week of this month.

It's the first Christmas craft fair this Saturday coming, then we have another the Saturday after, so right now the living room is full of stuff getting prepared. There are snowmen on the drawers, Christmas trees drying on the fireplace, wooden stuff everywhere waiting for stickers and to be signed and James has also started to slice the antlers the farm gave him to make necklaces. Today I've been tasked with painting more Christmas trees so they'll be added to the forest on the fireplace later.

I had an excellent writing day yesterday, and I've sent off four ficlets to be beta-read, two bandom, and two Musketeers. It feels nice to do so, though it does mean I need to start something new today. That or dust off the Musketeers space story which will probably be a teenager by the time it gets posted.

Finally, I saw Wakanda Forever on Saturday and I enjoyed it.

I really like the respectful nod to Chadwick Boseman, I've never heard the cinema be so silent at both the first title Marvel scenes which were all Black Panther, or the end section showing brief clips from the first film all focussed on T’Challa. I liked how the film dealt with grief, how that encompasses pain but also anger and I shed a tear when Shuri saw her mother was dying. Queen Ramonda was magnificent, and while her death seems in character, it's a shame that she's gone.

Overall, the film had such a deft and respectful touch in terms of T'Challa and grief, I liked the introduction of Talokan and the people who live there. But like so many Marvel films, it could have been cut down at some points.

When we went into the cinema they were just putting the Christmas lights up along the Riverwalk, and this is what we saw when we came out of the foyer. Durham is so pretty at night. Click pic for bigger.
