turps: (OMG!)

This morning I felt a bit of a damp spot on the carpet when I got out of bed, but thought nothing of it as cats can be grots.

James went to work, I went to tidy up upstairs and found out the ceiling next to the bed had sprung a mega leak, like, full-on waterfall effect with a bulging ceiling. Thankfully, by coincidence, Kayleigh popped in around then and helped me move the bed, which is good as the ceiling has now come in. It's a total mess up there now, a hole in the roof, bed moved, carpet soaking but that's fine, we have emergency insurance.

Except, they sent out a plumber and what the hell he was supposed to do I don't know. James is home now and is on the phone with them now and hopefully, they'll actually send a roofer this time and make it watertight. I hope so as it's supposed to rain again soon.

This morning. That white line you can just see in the middle is a constant flow of water. If you follow me on insta you'll have seen the video which shows it better.

And after the ceiling came in. The ladder is there as the plumber was a star and looked to see if he could see what had caused the leak even though it was obviously not the pipes. He thinks the storms we had a few weeks ago then the constant heavy rains we've had lately have combined to make everything soggy up there and waterlogged and eventually everything just gave.

In conclusion, the excess will be a killer but thank goodness for buildings and contents insurance.

Oh what a mess. And getting it taken care of properly will be a right pain, also - they should really send someone in who'll see what of the structure needs to be removed and replaced due to the water damage, and then set up some dehumidifiers and heaters to get everything left properly dried out. When our toilet soaked the sub-floor we had some kind of huge heater/dehumidifier thing in the bathroom for like three days.

oh, that's awful! I'm glad you got the bed moved out of the danger zone

I cannot believe they sent a plumber for what's obviously a roofing situation. I'm sending all sorts of 'quick fix' vibes your way

Oh no, what a horrendous pain! I have great sympathy for this having had ceiling leaks of my own over the last year (though I never actually had the ceiling give way, my goodness). I hope they can fix it asap and that you have somewhere dry to sleep meanwhile!

Oh no! Reminds me of when the tornado took off part of my roof and kept raining for the next few hours. Lost the whole ceiling in the master bedroom (and no one here to help me move anything!). I hope they're able to get a tarp or something up on your roof today and get it fixed ASAP. It took over a month for them to repair and replace my roof, until then it was a bit of wood and lots of tarps.

Oh no - what a mess! Thank goodness it didn't come down on you in the middle of the night, but - ugh! I imagine that's going to take a fair bit of sorting out! (We had to run industrial dehumidifiers for a week+ when I was dealing with the mystery leak - make sure to take meter readings and claim the electric back from the insurance if you end up with something similar!)
