James' birthday went quite nicely yesterday.

The day started slowly as we needed to wait in for two appointments. First, the man who was coming out to change some of the equipment I use for my long-term tv/computer usage survey. He arrived at around 10 and left at 11. Then the builder to assess the bedroom ceiling.

It turns out that not only are they going to replace the whole ceiling, but skim it and redecorate the whole room afterwards, including painting and wallpapering. All we have to do is pick colours and what wallpaper and they'll do the rest. They would have also put down the carpet which would have saved money for fitting, but as we didn't know that we've already claimed as part of the contents side of things.

They phoned later in the day with a schedule for the work which is the 12th for electrical, 13th for plastering, 21st for decorating, 22nd for more decorating and the electrician coming back again. I did say after the call that I was a bit disappointed they wouldn't be out earlier, and James pointed out that the first appointment was just a week and a few days away, at which point I had a little internal panic I still have so many things to do for Christmas as well as in the house.

In that time we also have to arrange to get the bed delivered and a carpet fitted but I have no idea when to do that or even if I can get a fitter to come so soon. Ideally, the bed would come last, so hopefully, we can get that arranged for the 23rd and keep our fingers crossed everything happens to plan.

My MiL also asked yesterday if she could come to stay from the 27th until the 2nd Jan as my SiL and her family are visiting other family then. So a very people full month.

Once those people had been in the morning we had to go to my In-Laws to pick up James' cards then we went out for a meal at Prego, a very nice restaurant at the seafront. I've taken [personal profile] tara there in the past and it has a nice feel to the place. Unlike previous times though we were seated in the restaurant area and not the bar, and were called sir and madam, which was very strange to hear. The food was delicious though.

From there we drove into town for the theatre, and as we were early James had himself an hour car nap as I messed on my phone and watched the rides arrive and be set up in the nearby winter village.

White Christmas was good, and it snowed on the audience at the end! I was thrilled with that. It wasn't a standout and I doubt I'd go and see it again, but it was good, cheesy fun and the audience were encouraged to sing along to White Christmas at the end and it all felt very festive.

The not-so-good of the day, Bodhi ended up being admitted to hospital. I think I've said before but she's got a cyst under her tongue and that sometimes breaks out through her chin. The hospital are aware but said they wouldn't do anything until she was older. Well, the night before yesterday it had swollen up so much she couldn't eat, swallow or drink and was pushing her tongue back. Kayleigh and Lucy took her to the kids A&E and she was admitted, had a GA and had 30ml of infected fluid drained. She's much better now but will probably stay in today for observation, then next year will have a bigger op to actually remove the thing.

Kayleigh had been messaging all day, and it was such a relief to get the video message of Bodhi eating a sandwich back on the ward, the poor little thing must have been so sore and so hungry.

The insurance money cleared last night so today we need to go pay off the bed, pick a carpet, wallpaper and paint. And have vague plans to see Matilda at the cinema, though that may have to be bumped to the weekend.
