turpsCatching up on the last few days.
On the 23rd the carpet fitters arrived very early, and within an hour the carpet was down and looking lovely. At which point I had to start getting as much back into the room as I could, including moving wardrobes etc back into place. One issue though, somehow the rail for my wardrobe has gone missing so I had no way to hang up my clothes, and still haven't, so they're in a heap on the floor.
On the afternoon my brother and my nephew came to get the mattress upstairs, and I'll just hand-wave what was a stressful hour as getting a super-king size orthopedic mattress up a stairwell with low ceilings, a stairlift on one side and a ninety-degree turn at the top to get into the bedroom, well, let's just say the air turned blue a few times.
The bed is so comfy and everything looks lovely, but the bedroom is still not finished final touch-wise as none of my books are back on the shelves yet and the curtains need putting up, plus of course, clothes everywhere. But, my brother did put the kickboards up in the kitchen so no more stepping over them and he does have a spare clothes rail he'll be bringing over soon.
I had a click-and-collect Christmas Eve from Asda between 7-8am, only to get an email saying they apparently had no bread buns in the shop and had substituted the Fosters I get for my brother for Bud Lite. As we were up early anyway we got ready and were in Sainsbury's for 6:30 for the missing stuff, picked up the Asda order and rejected the Bud, nipped into Company and were done shopping by 9am. The plan had been to go meet Kayleigh, Bodhi and Lucy for a coffee at Costa, but that never happened as they were running behind big time, so I had what may have been my last gingerbread latte of the season and went off to deliver presents to my in-laws. Then had a nice chill evening watching TV as James wrapped his presents upstairs.
Christmas Day was nice. I started it early and I was the only one awake for ages, so it was very peaceful, just me and the cats. When James did wake up we opened presents and he'd bought me a heated throw which is excellent and I very much enjoy using it. Between other presents from him, my MiL and Pauline I was nicely spoiled, including gifts from under the tree from friends. Thank you all again. I need to show photos, especially of the beautiful shawlturlough sent which is so tactile and pretty. It was such a fabulous surprise.
Once we were ready James went to pick up Corey from Newcastle and I went to spend a few hours with Bodhi and Kayleigh. Of course, I was repeatedly shown all of Bodhi's new toys and she loved the shopping trolley she got from us. The other wrapped presents we kept until Lucy finished work but they went down well too. James arrived with Corey and we hung out for an hour or so then went home.
I made Christmas dinner, which actually turned out nicely, we exchanged presents with Corey, and I laughed again at him picking a posh cheese grater as one of his choices and he gave good stuff in return, including another Lush gift set for me ♥
Then he went off for a five-hour nap as his body clock is pretty much set to nocturnal now.
Boxing Day Corey needed to be at work for 11am and James was going to the Sunderland football match, so my plans were to do the Boxing Day buffet and tidy a bit. But then early on Kayleigh messaged asking if I wanted to go to the Lush sale with her, and hell yes!
For those that don't know, Lush only has one sale a year where they sell off all the seasonal products for half price, so it's a popular sale. So, just after nine, James and Corey were heading to Newcastle while I went with Kayleigh and Bodhi to Sunderland. And ended up queuing for over three hours, two to get in the shop, and another hour to look at everything and pay.
It was amazing how many people thought it was okay to walk past saying the people waiting were sad but to us, it's worth it. We got to hang out and get stuff we love and will use, for much cheaper, so win-win. Yes, my legs were aching by the end and I was very pleased there was a Starbucks just around the corner to finally sit down and be caffeinated once we were done, but yeah, worth it. Especially as my childhood bestie saw us sitting and came in with her mam for a catch-up. Also, yesterday Kayleigh put up a lovely status about our time out on FB. We are close but she's not a huggy or demonstrative person at all, so it was so great to see her say how much she'd enjoyed the trip.
I finally got home around 2 in the afternoon to chaos. New stuff everywhere, the kitchen not fully cleaned from the day before, my bedroom still upside down but you know what I did? I sorted out the worst of it, then went to unpack my new Lush products, which is always a highlight of Christmas for me, and had a lobster bath with a new bubble bar.
I didn't do the Boxing Day buffet but that's fine, as the frozen stuff will do for new year, and sandwiches were made and eaten with leftover turkey, noturkey and pork. Then I settled down under my new heated throw and watched some festive tv.
Yesterday I needed to actually tidy and move furniture as my MiL was coming to stay, and I need to get in the garden and move rubbish bags because how is it possible to have 10 black bin bags full out there when there's only been three of us? I'm sure they're breeding. But, in the end, she didn't end up coming for the reasons below.
One bad thing over Christmas, before he was going to the match James had gone to pick up my BiL and a taxi had parked up on the bank, not put on his hand brake and the taxi rolled into the side of our car. Thankfully, James wasn't in it at the time but the wing mirror is destroyed and the passenger side door and bumper crumpled. The driver knocked and admitted what he'd done, so we won't have to pay the excess for insurance, but it did put a bit of a dampener on the day.
Especially so as the insurance need to take Rosie in to be fixed meaning a hire car will be needed, but it's always a pain to get a suitable one as it needs to be big enough for James to get in and out easily, plus, with it being bank holiday yesterday all the services were limited.
Work has given him the morning off to hopefully get that sorted, as the insurance company strongly suggested that our car not be driven for now. It's not unsafe but not ideal either. Which is why my MiL didn't come here yesterday. So, fingers crossed something can be sorted out fast, otherwise, I can see it being after the new year.
But, mostly it's been great. Catch up on here soon.

And I heartily approve of the heated throw! I have a large green one, an early Christmas present which was very handy during the cold snap.

The heated throw is amazing, and I can understand why you like yours so much. I even had Milo on my lap when I was using it and he normally sits next to me, not on me.

The hire car company have been in touch and getting one shouldn't be an issue. Just, Rosie won't be going to the garage until next week now due to places shutting for New Year.
