Mar. 18th, 2023 04:16 pmYesterday, I got my first book from the Mail Survey place. I was expecting them to be sending out second-hand small fiction paperbacks, but I got a big second-hand book about Historic Houses and Gardens in the UK. I'm going to give it a quick glance but I suspect it'll be going to the tip recycling shop next time I'm there.
Yesterday we took my MiL out for an early Mother's Day meal and day out. We picked her up not long after nine as James needed to be nip to the doctor's first thing, then went for a drive up to the moors. My MiL needed the toilet at one point and we stopped in a place that turned out to be a collection of craft shops and a cafe set in some lovely gardens. Of course, James was in his element, especially in the cooperative Craft Shop. It was a lovely place where the crafters pay to rent a section of the shop and then have to man the tills twice a month, but keep 100% of the money when their goods get sold. I suspect if it was a bit closer he'd be joining up, but as it is, it's just too far to go to regularly.
We came out of there with a wooden apple complete with a mouse, another mouse and a mug my MiL liked the look of, and which we bought as her Mother's Day gift.
From there we drove over the moors and then looped back to Durham and had a late lunch at The Food Pit, which is next door to the Odeon we usually go to. We've taken my MiL there often and she likes to get a cocktail on special occasions, so I had a strawberry daiquiri with her.
I enjoyed The Lion King so much on Thursday. Because James did get out of work early we went out to eat beforehand, but as it was such a last-minute decision all the good places were booked up. The place we could get a table was nice enough and was really close to the theatre, but it certainly wasn't the best place we've eaten.
As for the show itself, it was so good! Our seats were brilliant and we both had an excellent and not obscured at all view, even by the people in front. Plus, as the show was completely sold out the atmosphere was buzzing.
I did realise why it was impossible to book the wheelchair spots we usually get when I'd checked earlier in the year, they'd all been moved to leave room for the animals to walk down the sides. But moved to better places I think, at the centre back of the stalls but still with an excellent view with the carer's seats right next to them.
Talking of the animals, those puppets and the people operating them were amazing and the first scene when they all walked down the side of the stalls and onto the stage was magical. I knew that the puppets did get close to the audience but knowing and seeing are very different things. It was a shame they didn't come down the centre aisle too but I could see why they didn't due to lack of room at the front.
I also liked that some local based jokes were added as I didn't expect that.
But yeah, such a great show and one I'd go and see again.
A bonus was one of my old school besties was in the row behind us, so we got to catch up a little in the interval.
This is the view we had when we first went in, one that has really spoiled us in terms of getting good seats.

It sounds like it was a fabulous show!

Date: 2023-03-27 01:03 pm (UTC)The craft place was great and I really liked how it was set out and how the crafters paid their dues with manning the tills too. I could have easily spent a fortune in there.
The show was so good! I do love going to the theatre.

Date: 2023-03-27 01:01 pm (UTC)There's no need to, it never occurred to me either, I just thought all the wheelchair spaces had been snapped up pretty much instantly. Personally, I prefer where they'd moved the spaces, view-wise anyway.
The show was great! I swear I got chills the first scene when the animals appeared.
