May. 5th, 2023 06:04 pmWell, I saw Guardians of the Galaxy V3 today, and don't have to worry about enjoying it now, because I loved it.
It did have a lot to live up to because I think the first two films are great, hell, we even had Groot, Star-Lord and Gamora as the cake toppers on our wedding cake so going in I was nervous, but yeah, so good.
The film focussed so strongly on found family and being there for one another, and I'm not going to lie, I cried often as they raced to save Rocket, and showed his past and what he'd gone through. Honestly, those scenes were brutal and seeing the animals and what they'd gone through with experimentation and implants was horrific. But it explains why Rocket is the character he is perfectly.
Every single Guardian got their moment, all were shown as growing in character and ending things on their own terms. As always music was such a key part of the narrative and how the film ended felt just right.
I'm going to miss them so much. The last end credit scene suggested Star-Lord would be back in some way, but I very much doubt it'll be with his crew I've come to love so much.
So yeah, loved it. And suspect it's one I'll be going to see again.
Non spoilery, I didn't get the light-up popcorn tin. They are cool but I really couldn't justify spending £17 on something when it was likely most of the popcorn wouldn't be touched.

By the time we got married we'd been living together for well over 20 years so had a small wedding how we wanted. And that included Guardians cake toppers. I think some guests were a bit bemused, though *g*

Date: 2023-05-07 10:54 am (UTC)Like you I never thought I'd cry over Rocket either, but his backstory was tragic. All the scenes where he was whimpering in pain, and then comforted by the tiniest things by his new friends and then they were ripped away from him too! And they told him to go back -- and yes, corny but omg, more tears and when he flatlined. And the baby racoons and saving all of the animals And man, I was not expecting that in Guardians!
I don't know if I'd just missed it all along but I always thought he knew he was a racoon but didn't like being one, therefore, how he always said he wasn't a racoon. Then he saw the description and maybe he never actually knew he was a racoon at all.
Such a good film, even if I did make me cry loads.

Date: 2023-05-07 10:46 am (UTC)It’s very hard to make me cry but I was very close to during the flashback scenes with rocket. They were just so sad and 🥺😭
I’m gonna miss them so much too. I wouldn’t be surprised if at least some of them return at some point though. I do wonder what the legendary star Lord return actually means, I don’t know if he can pull off a film without the team. But i guess we’ll see
I saw the tin on one of the screens behind the till so asked the lady sorting the tickets about it but they didn’t have any which was a surprise because I’d have like to see it. It does look. Nice but yeah it’s a lot for what it seemed to be

Date: 2023-05-07 11:04 am (UTC)The flashback scenes were hard to see and like I said in the actual post it explains a lot why Rocket is the character he is. He had no choice but to become tough and brash and his confidence was obviously used to hide a lot of past hurt. But while they were hard to see they weren't gratuitous and worked beautifully to strengthen the feel of found families. And that sometimes, the found family you lose are there to urge you to go back to the found family that's still waiting.
I was reading an interview where the actors who play Drax and Gamora stated they wouldn't come back and they're such core remembers of the team I can't see it working without them. Of course, they could change their mind in the future but I do think the Guardians as we've known them are over and like you, I don't think Star-Lord would work on his own. Though, the MCU universe is so huge and complex he could pop up anywhere really.
There were loads of tins where I was and they are fun. But ultimately, they're a tin with a light-up logo and not worth the money. I'm sure other merch will come out that's better. Maybe some baby racoons, that would be fun.

Date: 2023-05-07 08:50 pm (UTC)It made me wanna give him so many hugs. I kept thinking as the film went on that I hoped his friends got out with him and when they didn’t it was so heartbreaking floor was so sweet 🥺
I heard about that too after making my post, it’s so sad if they don’t come back, but they again all the make up for them must be hard. Rocket’s team would be interesting to see (and I’m sure the guardians in the comics have changed too) and I’m glad the others are still out there and could still come back. Yeah when i aw he would return it made me think how? Because a solo film. With him (especially on Earth) probably wouldn’t be too great. But we’ll see
When I was looking at the Star Wars stuff on the Disney store I also saw this plush of baby rocket (and there’s also a cosmo) both which look so cute!

Date: 2023-05-10 01:49 pm (UTC)I've been thinking about if I'd want a new Guardian's film with new teams members and I don't think I would. I think they've left it at the perfect point so it would be a shame to have a new film with different people in it. Maybe some cameo appearances by Star Lord, I mean, I guess being back doesn't mean he has to be centre stage.
I was reading about Groot's language earlier, and how you only understand what he actually means if the person is bonded and close to him, otherwise you hear, I am Groot. Which means the audience hearing him at the end means we've bonded to him too, and I love that little detail. I missed it myself, but it makes so much sense when I think about it.

Date: 2023-05-10 09:32 pm (UTC)I wouldn’t be surprised if they did something in the future, but I think it’s definitely depend on the dynamic of the team. (And it being different would be odd from the get go) I do think there’s definitely potential for marvel to do more spacey stuff though
Oh yeah I saw that too, that was so sweet🥺
