May. 8th, 2023 11:26 amJames' lathe stopped working yesterday, which led to much angst. But he put a post on FaceBook asking if anyone knew someone who did repairs and a lady offered her husband's services, and he's up there now. Has been for the last ninety minutes in fact with only the occasional clanking sound, so goodness knows what's going on.
It's been a weekend of minor stuff going wrong, there was a leak under the sink, but on examination, it looked like it was coming from the seal of the wastewater outlet and nothing too serious. Still, my brother is coming to have a look at some point. Supposedly today but long experience shows he could turn up today or a month from now. I also managed to fix the dishwasher when the water wouldn't engage. Well, I say fixed, I remembered what I had to do last time where I pretty much had to give the machine a good shake to get the stuck float thing moving again. Plus, a good clean of the filters, water sprayers etc and all is well again.
Plus, all that cleaning and sorting meant I found a full packet of washing capsules I'd forgotten about, so score.
Then I went to pick up a Too Good to Go magic bag from Morrisons and found once I got there they didn't have anything to put in it. Which is good in a no food waste way but frustrating when we'd driven there. Due to cancelling so late, they did refund the price of the bag on top of the refund I got from TGTG and it was the Morrisons at the beach so a nice drive. But I was looking forward to seeing if I got turnips again.
I watched the Coronation Concert last night and it was okay, I was going to bail before the end but was glad I didn't as I enjoyed watching Take That, though my favourite was Zak Abel who was a very last minute replacement and sang 'Don't Forget About Me'. Plus, that video shows the drone whale which was fabulous.

Date: 2023-05-08 12:11 pm (UTC)Ugh to minor issues building up. I'm glad you sorted the washing machine.
Bummer that there was no food to fill your bag! I hope you enjoyed the beach.

Date: 2023-05-08 01:39 pm (UTC)My lawnmower decided to die, so it's not just you. The guy I normally use because he will come to my house can't get here for a month or two, so I've gotten a recommendation for another guy. I'll have to load the heavy mower myself to take it to him, and he has very limited days/hours, but hopefully he can get it going in a week or two. Until then, I found a place nearby that rents mowers. Hopefully, they're still open.
Glad you got your dishwasher going again!

Date: 2023-05-09 06:22 am (UTC)But the lathe is fixed, and the guy didn't charge either which was a great bonus.
Yeah, it was nice they refunded the money, especially as it was automatically refunded on the TGTG site too.

Date: 2023-05-09 10:47 am (UTC)But sometimes the videos give me an understanding of what's going on and how to explain the issue. Then I seem kind of smart... LOL
Exactly! Those videos are how I fixed the dishwasher the first time, though I know if it was something more complicated than a stuck float I would have had to pay for a repair person. But as it wasn't, I felt fantastic getting it going again *G*
I know you've got your lawnmower in now so will keep my fingers crossed it'll be fixed soon.

Date: 2023-05-09 10:48 am (UTC)I did enjoy the beach, but forget it was the local half marathon so a load of roads were closed. That added a bit time to the journey, but at least it was a nice day.

Too bad you didn't get a TGTG bag with turnips but great that they refunded you.

Date: 2023-05-10 01:51 pm (UTC)It really is. The guy was so lovely, he actually has his own woodworking stall in Durham market and told James if he ever needs to get any tips or more help to just get in touch, which I think is lovely of him. As much as You Tube videos, guides etc can be helpful, I do think being shown something by an expert is much better.
Ahahahaha, yeah, my poor dishwasher is used to violence now.
Refunded twice, which was good of them. Guess I'll just have to buy some turnips.
