The June Something and other stuff again.
Jun. 24th, 2023 03:40 pmDay 5: If you could go back in time and help create a foundational work (be it book, show, movie, etc.) what would it be and what would your role be?
I thought about this a lot and would like to have been involved with The Game of Thrones universe. I'd love to change so many things, all the times the Stark siblings just missed meeting one another as they went up and down the country, Rickon zigzagging and not running in a straight line, but mostly, I'd have changed Bran the freakin' useless and his 'I'm going to go now' line which still makes me shake my fist at the universe when I think about it. Sure, just you go and warg off Bran, leave people to fend for themselves and not help at all. All that set-up of great power for what? Nothing! Never has a character annoyed me more. Not sure what my role would be to change things, maybe stop him being shoved out of a window in the first place, or give him a story arc that actually reaches its potential. Hell, maybe I'd leave him in the cave with the three-eyed raven.
Though really, what I'd want to do is make sure all of House Stark survived, and that would lead to a very different story.
Day 6: Who was the first hero you wanted to be saved by? And from what would you need rescuing?
Bonus: Who's a hero you could save?
This is another I've thought about a lot and the answer has to be, my brain doesn't really work like that and I don't want to be saved by anyone, or save anyone. That's what other characters are for. I know, a cop out answer but that's all I've got.
We had a bit of a fraught morning yesterday. James had been paid, including some extra money and went to transfer a big chunk to our savings account, but instead sent it to fannish niece. He realised straight away, but couldn't reverse the transaction. At that point it was 6:30 in the morning, the bank number he needed to call to ask what he could do wasn't open yet and fannish niece still asleep we assumed as she wasn't answering messages.
I was 99% was sure she'd send it straight back, but as shown last year, sometimes she doesn't make the best decisions, especially as she hasn't been calling my SiL recently. But all we could do was wait, and when she finally woke up hours later she was straight on the phone and transferred it back in minutes, so all was well.
James had an appointment with his back doctor yesterday and thankfully it was a phone one as like the last appointment, it lasted all of a minute. The doctor phoned, asked if he was talking to James, asked if he was phoning about the back injections again, James said yes, the doctor said, okay, you're on the list, I'll see you within eight weeks and that was it. Phone appointment done and dusted in seconds.
It's a glorious day today, sunny and hot, so we've been to the Sunderland food festival. It was so lovely, the place was buzzing, there were so many delicious-looking food stalls and entertainment and I got to try some of James' chimney cake, something neither us had tried before but was really tasty. As was the veggie burrito I had for lunch.
I also went to buy some more knockoff Crocs but sadly they were all sold out in my size. I got a pair last week but while they're cheap they're perfect for my feet due to having the solid bottoms. Apparently, they're quite fashionable right now which obviously just shows I was ahead of my time when I had some before.
To end on a positive note. I got a comment on one of my fics yesterday from someone saying they'd commented before but had to again to say the story had become one of their comfort fics and they'd read it repeatedly. That was so lovely to read, though my bandom friends would laugh that a fic that's not my pairing love at all is still getting such positive attention. But yeah, such a boost to receive.

Date: 2023-06-24 02:58 pm (UTC)Well, he still needs to have the actual injections but at least he's booked in for them now. I continue to be amazed at how quickly this doctor gets through his appointments, and yet, because he's phoning from the private hospital I bet he gets a nice bit of money for each call.
We did have a lovely day. We bumped into my SiL and oldest nephew there too which was a nice surprise. I had to laugh at them because there were so many stalls selling so many different kinds of food, and my nephew ended up a McDonalds.

Date: 2023-06-27 08:55 am (UTC)While we never really thought she wouldn't send the money back it was more if she'd actually read the messages because she hasn't called or been in touch with my SiL for a while. So yeah, anxious was the word.
The festival was great. It was lovely to be out in the sunshine and just people-watch.
:D

Date: 2023-06-25 08:17 pm (UTC)That's the kind of doctor's appointment I like - short and to the point :-)
Your day at the food festival sounds wonderful! The chimney cake looks and sounds very tasty.
What a fantastic comment!

Date: 2023-06-27 08:58 am (UTC)I know! It's such an anxious time, and then was resolved in minutes as soon as fannish niece woke up.
The doctor's appointment was so fast, which was great. But I'm also glad it was a telephone one as driving to the hospital to be there for an appointment so short would have been a waste of time. It's one situation I really like telephone appointments, sometimes they really are the best options.
The chimney cake was delicious, very crispy at the edges which I didn't expect.
