Jun. 27th, 2023 07:58 amFive years today mam died. Despite the bad times, and the people who were around then know there were a lot of bad times, I miss her so very much. Sometimes I just want to go back to her always-too-hot house and drink coffee and watch stupid tv and know despite the negatives, she was always the one who would want to know how things were going for me.
We didn't get Rosie back yesterday. The garage was supposed to phone and tell us when to pick her up, but by 4:30 still no call. So James phoned them, only to find out that they were still waiting for some parts and didn't actually know when she'd be done. Which wasn't what they'd said on Friday but apparently between then and yesterday they realised they still needed some trim.
That normally wouldn't be an issue as the hire car is nice, but we're off to Camp Sparkle on Friday and obviously, James would rather drive our own car to do so. They said they can't promise when these last parts will arrive, but we've got three full days and could wait part of Friday, so fingers crossed.
Other than that, it was James' kidney appointment at the hospital. We went an hour early as normally parking is a nightmare, only for one disabled bay to come free just as we arrived, so we hung out in the cafe for a bit. And got to hear countless people asking for hot drinks despite the huge 'the machine is broken, no hot drinks available' sign that was prominently displayed on the counter.
The appointment went okay, all his scans and blood tests were good kidney wise so he doesn't have to go back again. They think the mass/pain in his kidney is just something to do with his AMC and something he needs to learn to deal with, which we both suspected going in, but was nice to be reassured there isn't actually anything nasty lurking, though of course, the pain situation isn't good.
But, the scan also showed he has gallstones, they're not bothering him now but the potential is there, so the doctor stressed he really needs to keep on being careful with his diet.
So with that and the car situation he was a down for a while, but we went to de-stress a little at the beach while waiting to pick up a Too Good to Go magic bag from Company. It was the first time I'd managed to get one as they're incredibly popular and no wonder. When I picked up mine it was a full crate of food, including lots of meat, fish, pasta and loads of other stuff for £5. Also, 5 tubs of clotted cream which was just what we needed after James got his be careful of diet talk.
To end, look at this comment I got on my last fic. Think I should join that platform? *g*

Date: 2023-06-27 11:23 am (UTC)Bummer about the car, especially with the planned weekend coming up.
It's great that James doesn't have to worry about his kidney, but less great that he has to just deal with the pain, and the gallstones. I'm surprised they didn't want to do something about the gallstones.
De-stressing at the beach sounds nice, as does that magic bag you got!

The doctor wasn't even going to mention them at first, told us the results of the scans and blood tests and started to say goodbye when I asked if they'd found out what the mass in his kidney actually was. Which is when she explained it could have been there from birth and be part of his disability and then dropped it into conversation the scan showed he also had gallstones and to watch his diet. I assume they're only small as he's never had issues but still, some more info would have been nice.
I think James is going to get in touch with our GP and get some advice. I'm sure he'll explain things in a bit more detail.
The Magic Bag was amazing. Though I still laugh at the thought of all that clotted cream.

Date: 2023-06-28 06:07 am (UTC)Rosie was supposed to be at the garage for four days, and now it's well past that. I can't say that I'm surprised though.
Oh, I'll be signing for sure! Just need to gather my full name, DOB, bank account details and NI number first to cover all bases.

It's absurd that you still haven't got Rosie back! Keeping everything crossed you will before you have to leave!
Well, at least the mass in his kidney isn't anything scary but they really could have been more informative about the gallstones! Also about how to manage the pain, I would think.
See you on Friday!!

Yeah, I was surprised how they dealt with the gallstones issue, though the pain is more understandable as he's on really powerful painkillers constantly anyway.
See you tomorrow!

I was considering that, but the clotted cream would be a couple of days past the best before date by tomorrow. Which wouldn't bother me in the slightest but I wasn't sure about others. I may just shove them in a cooler and bring them anyway.
