Taking my MiL out for lunch was a bit of a washout yesterday.
As she'd been under the weather last weekend, James asked her a few times if she felt up to actually going out, and she said she was fine and wanted to go. Only to not get out of the car at all, kept having naps, hardly spoke, which isn't her at all, and ended up having to have her oxygen on, which thankfully we'd taken with us. I suspected this would happen which is why I suggested not going to a restaurant and just picking up something from the chipshop at the beach. As it was she barely ate any of her fish and despite asking for a frappe from Costa, left half of that too.
Then while we were out I got a message to say a parcel had been delivered to my front porch. Which would have been excellent, except I don't have a front porch and the supporting photo they sent was this. The bricks are the same colour as the houses where I live, but there are also 91 houses on the estate so the odds of finding it weren't good.
I did check the nearby houses but nothing, so I got on live chat and after some back and forth with a chatbot, who kept telling me that no, I couldn't meet up with the driver, got an actual person who transferred the case to the depot and said someone would call in an hour. Oh, and that I should go on the app and upload a photo of my house so mistakes like this don't happen again. You know, because apparently having the house number on the back and front doors, the gate, my bins, my safe place noted and neighbours willing to take in parcels isn't enough.
I did actually get the parcel in the end, it had been left with someone who was honest enough to bring it after he got home from work, but man, so frustrating. And was the same this morning when I thought I'd better tell them that the parcel had turned up, bypassed the chatbot again only to get someone who totally didn't read what I'd written and told me how to claim for a lost parcel from the sender. Head meets desk.
We're taking Pauline for her second scan soon, then after that I need cat litter and a bit of a tidy of the house. Then tonight I managed to get another TGTG Magic Bag from Company. They're so popular you have to be extremely fast to get one, so I'm hoping it's another good one. And I don't get multiple tubs of clotted cream again.

Date: 2023-07-12 02:36 pm (UTC)That does sound like a frustrating experience. Yes, how tough is it to match the house number?!! o_O
I hope your Magic Box is awesome!

Date: 2023-07-13 11:16 am (UTC)I really don't get what the delivery driver was doing, the number didn't match at all. I was just lucky the person who did get the parcel was honest and brought it here as soon as he saw it.
Sadly my Magic Box was cancelled. Which was good in that it meant no food was going to be wasted, but I was looking forward to seeing what I got.

Date: 2023-07-13 11:12 am (UTC)My great uncle was a lovely man, he had a bungalow in the next town and we'd pass it often on the way home. So many times I've seen him standing in the sitting room playing his trumpet. He had such a varied and busy life almost to the end.

Date: 2023-07-14 08:10 pm (UTC)That's just absurd! If you have your number on the house the driver has NO excuse to deliver your parcel to another house!!

Date: 2023-07-16 04:55 pm (UTC)But yeah, the driver really had no excuse for delivering the parcel to the wrong house. Our house number is clear on both doors and garden gate and the doorbell has our names on it. I really think he was just being lazy and couldn't be bothered to walk to get here.

Date: 2023-07-25 01:21 pm (UTC)...this is a new approach to mining data that I had not considered.
Also, they have one job? I worked food delivery back in the days of yore when we relied on the good old A-Z to find where the hell people lived (in a town with military housing that wasn't in the A-Z) and yet somehow all my deliveries got to where they needed to be

You sound like you were an excellent food delivery person. So many delivery drivers these days seem to fail at actually getting parcels to the right place. Which is frustrating when you're told they've been delivered, but just haven't.
