After procrastinating like a pro, I finally got the living room decorated.
It took me two days to do the actual painting, one for the magnolia walls, and one for the feature wall, plus moving my old desk and putting the new one in. Not going to lie, I was so tired by the end of it. Last night I was lying on the floor under the new desk putting in screws from underneath and could have just lain there and gone to sleep.
Today I've dismantled the old desk and have taken unused paint back to B&Q and bought myself a new set of plastic drawers because our plan to move the filing cabinet under the desk and use them as drawers didn't work, as the cabinet was just a bit too tall.
Stuff I found as I changed desks included old name badges from a couple of Connotations cons, the battery-operated mini lava lamp I was sent, a sheet of stickers Corey got for good behaviour in infant school and a series of old mobiles starting with a Nokia brick and ending with a smaller, flip Nokia brick. When I got them I really did think they were amazing, with their ability to send text messages and take photos. Though often the photos were little more than blurs, but still, exciting tech at the time.
Now I'm taking a bit to write this before getting the bits of the old desk out of the way, ready to take to the tip tomorrow, and then getting the floor hoovered so the place can look acceptable again.
People who follow me on Insta will have seen these but in the end we decided to go for a burnt orange colour for the feature wall and it looks so good on. Especially so when the light hits it, it brightens the room up a lot.
Grey turning to orange.

Excuse the mess and dodgy cutting in. I'm no pro decorator, especially when up a height, but I remain proud of getting it all done myself.

Date: 2023-07-29 07:57 am (UTC)Yeah, it is a big job, and one you're committed to once you start so I completely understand putting it off.

Date: 2023-07-30 07:12 am (UTC)Oh yes, I'm very glad it's finished and now all that's left is to enjoy.
Well, I have one more tip run to do as we couldn't fit all of the parts of the desk in the car at once. But that's a small thing with little effort.

Date: 2023-07-30 07:11 am (UTC)I need to get some new batteries for the mini lava lamp. It's something that makes me smile each time I look at it.

Date: 2023-07-30 07:09 am (UTC)I can't say I enjoy decorating but it badly needed doing. So, I'm very glad it's done now, and looks good at the end.

Date: 2023-07-30 07:08 am (UTC)Aggressively bright made me smile as each time I've told people via a phone call the colour we picked they seemed taken aback and I assume must have thought I meant a neon orange when it's not that at all. Cheerful and bright is the perfect description.

Date: 2023-07-30 05:57 pm (UTC)It's amazing the things you can find when you dig through drawers. The stickers made me smile and the mini lava lamp made me giggle - you definitely need to get new batteries for it!
