Aug. 13th, 2023 01:36 pmMilo is very disgruntled right now as he was sick in his heated bed so it's having to get washed. Hopefully, it won't take that long to dry or there will be a full-on kitty shunning.
In other news, my MiL came to stay for a week last Sunday and we took her home last night. As it was technically her summer holiday we went out every day, ranging from our local beach and a few hours at lunch with Kayleigh and Bodhi, to trips to Barnard Castle, Blyth, and Seahouses. So, now I'm pretty much hosted out and also needing a day when I can just stay in and do very little.
Not that it hasn't been a good week, all our trips out were lovely, especially to Barnard Castle where a highlight was sitting in the sunshine on the outside tables at an artisan bakery and eating incredible sandwiches the size of your head. I also brought back a giant sourdough loaf which was very tasty. Though the low point of that day was the fact Barnard Castle is an old town on a big bank complete with cobbled paths and getting the wheelchair around on that was hard.
The sandwich doesn't photo well, that was mine, mozzarella and pesto, but you can just see my MiL eating hers in the background for scale.

Bodhi enjoying her ice cream.

I'm still getting used to not hearing the sound of my MiL's oxygen generator. It's been very hot and humid so she's needed it on all the time at home -- she uses the portable stuff while out and about -- and it has a very distinctive, whooshing sound.
Yesterday my MiL got to see my nephew for the first time in three years. He lives in a home for autistic youngsters and meets my SiL three times a week, one of his carers taking him to her, then he gets picked up again after the visit. It's all carefully arranged but it's no issue if he sees other people while out and about, so we took my MiL to Costa to meet my nephew and SiL.
Where my MiL kissed him repeatedly and later, when my SiL talked about how she was thinking of taking a weekend caravan holiday at the end of September and there would be room for me, James and my MiL, my MiL announced that my nephew could come too and that his carers could stay in a different caravan and we'd have this great big family holiday. And while I get why she'd love that, she doesn't seem to get that it just doesn't work like that.
One of the books I was sent in the mail survey was Gone by Michael Grant. I started reading it last week and have powered through it, really enjoying it. Got to the end and realised it was the first in a long series. Sadness! Now I'm going to have to actually buy the others. Or else, as James is on half pay right now, find them by other means.
And, hours after starting this email, so much for my plans of sitting and having an easy day. My computer started to turn itself on and off, so I swapped it for my old one which was upstairs. Only for that to turn itself on and off too, along with weird noises. Turns out, the socket in the wall has completely melted where the plug is. I'm so glad that happened when I knew there was an issue and could deal with it.
Right now I'm on the old computer still, which means I've lost all my tabs yet again, and have power via an extension lead which isn't ideal at all. My brother has said he'll come and change the socket tomorrow and as it's a relatively short job should hopefully actually do so. Now I need to remember where everything is on this desktop. It was mine and I used it for years, but of course, I've forgotten everything.

Date: 2023-08-13 04:44 pm (UTC)I hope you're able to enjoy a day or so without too much people-time, so you can recharge.
I'm glad you were home when the socket went, instead of discovering big problems later on. it's great your brother can help with that, but hard if he makes you wait

Date: 2023-08-14 07:47 am (UTC)I hope my brother does turn up this afternoon. This morning, I need to go buy a new socket and also a new extension with a circuit breaker for my computer and all the stuff that needs to be plugged in. The old one is toast, but I suspect without that a lot of damage would have been caused.

Date: 2023-08-14 07:50 am (UTC)Recharging sounds good.
But yeah, it is great my brother can help. I got in contact with him for the number of his electrician friend but Chris said he could do the job. So I'm hoping the fact he offered means he'll turn up in a timely manner.

Date: 2023-08-14 03:19 pm (UTC)I'm glad you got to do some fun things during the week, but I feel you on needing some time to rest and recharge after that!
The sandwich looks and sounds wonderful! As does the ice cream. *g*
It's a good thing you were there and able to figure out the issue! That's scary. I hope it gets fixed quickly for you.

Date: 2023-08-15 05:48 pm (UTC)Sounds like you've had an enjoyable but also exhausting week. Having to socialise all day for a whole week is so draining! Hopefully you'll be able to stay in and recharge a lot this week!
Your sandwich looks so tasty and so does Bodhi's ice cream!
Boo! for malfunctioning sockets! I hope your brother had time to change it for you so you can use your "real" computer again.

Date: 2023-08-25 03:13 pm (UTC)I did stay in and recharge and it was much needed. You're right about socialising all week being exhausting. Though at least I do actually go to bed early, so got time at night without having to make an excuse.
Bodhi's ice cream looked delicious, but was so much bigger than we were expecting.
The socket is all done. Chris actually turned up when he said he would, which is never a given with him.

Date: 2023-08-25 03:15 pm (UTC)I have to admit, despite the fun things it was a long week.
Oh that sandwich was so tasty. And being able to sit and eat it in the sun made it even more so.
Thankfully, the socket is all fixed now. I've invested in another surge protector extension as I suspect the last one stopped my computer from getting fried.
