Nov. 29th, 2023 02:18 pmI woke to a covering of snow this morning which was an unwelcome surprise. Saying that though, I had to go out earlier, and it was bright and sunny and the snow doesn't seem as bad like that. It's when it is grey and slushy I hate the most.
But, snow aside, the most important news is, Kevin is here!
He's adorable, and a little limpet. He slept in the bed between me and James last night and has spent hours cuddled on either mine or James' knees. Though I could do without him sitting on my shoulder when I'm in the bathroom.
He's also got a mischievous streak, as shown by him squashing himself onto the electric fire and batting all the stones from it. Thankfully, it never gets used for heat, just the light only. Even so, picking up fake coals all the time will quickly get old.
Murphy wasn't sure yesterday. Lots of toilet brush tails were going on, along with hissing and growling, but that's eased right off now. Considering it's been just over 24 hours Kevin has been here I'll take Murphy being dubious and staring at this newcomer, and who knows, they could eventually be friends and play together. Plus, Murphy slept in his usual place in the bed last night, which was a relief as I would have hated for him to feel pushed out.
Though, Kevin is now curled up fast asleep in Murphy's slouch bed which I don't think Murphy is amused about.
And now, photos. Some I've already shared on Insta, so sorry if you're seeing them twice.

Date: 2023-11-29 02:51 pm (UTC)YAY! So happy to see Kevin home. Yeah, I've noticed that new kittens tend to think everything revolves around them, and all previous cats and people are surely there to do their bidding. I'm glad he was comfortable enough to snuggle in bed with you guys. Ozzie will sleep in my bed during the day, but not at night. He's to the point where he allows me to catnap with him in the bed during the day. And, a couple of nights ago, I woke up and he had come to bed and snuggled in it for a while, but didn't stay long. Maybe an hour or so. He generally prefers to sleep in the living room. *sigh*. He does always come into the bed to say Good Morning, once he realizes I'm awake. I suppose that's something!
You can never really tell about cats. Some will warm up to other cats over time, while others won't. But hopefully, the two boys will choose to play together eventually or become snuggle buddies. Even if they don't become besties, I still think most cats secretly like having another cat around the house, especially if their people are gone for the day (or longer).
Oh goodness! Can you guys get some sort of a screen to put in front of the electric fire to keep him out of it? Or if it's not hot, maybe a plexiglass screen might work? I have a screen in front of the fireplace. Although, I do think all my cats have managed to jump over it at some point. But it's not something they generally do more than once.
Anyway, YAY Kevin! So glad he's making himself at home. Murphy is just going to have to accept that he's gone from the role of baby brother kitty to big brother kitty. *G*

Date: 2023-12-19 03:01 pm (UTC)I so agree! Fresh snow that crunches underfoot is nice, and pretty easy to walk on. It's when it gets compacted and slippy I hate it. I end up walk at a snails pace and get paranoid over each step.
I can picture Chaser dancing in the snow. We shouldn't laugh but it's impossible not to *g*

They're interacting so much better now, though Kevin really is a brat of a brother at times. Where Murphy goes Kevin wants to go too. But, they groom each other now, lie together and then freak me out by having dominance play fights.
Thankfully, the fire doesn't actually work as a fire, just the bulbs to light it up so it's safe for Kevin to sit on there. If the elements did work I would have to screen it off as he loves to sit on there still. I guess it's just feels like a cosy cave for him, but it does look weird him sitting on the fake coals.

Date: 2023-11-29 05:20 pm (UTC)welcome, Kevin!! great pictures, though the one of his atop the fire is a bit startling *g* it's nice that he's feeling comfortable already, and staking his claim to the place (and you). I anticipate many stories about his antics

Date: 2023-12-19 02:53 pm (UTC)Kevin still loves sitting on the fire. I do think he must like the warmth of the bulbs, so it's good the heating elements don't work or he'd be toasting himself!

Date: 2023-11-30 05:13 pm (UTC)I had the fire light switched off yesterday, but tried it on just now to see if the attraction had gone, but, nope.

Date: 2023-12-04 03:26 pm (UTC)Considering Kev's been here less than a week they are getting on well. Not friends as such, but tolerating each other for sure.

Date: 2023-11-30 12:21 pm (UTC)Kevin! Yay for having him home! What a cutie! (He looks so tiny compared to Murphy.) Poor Murphy. I hope they become fast friends.

Date: 2023-11-30 05:11 pm (UTC)He does look tiny next to Murphy, though I suspect most cats would *g*
I think they may be friends eventually. Today they've been sniffing noses and playing, maybe not together, but in the same spot, which is a good step forward.

So many adorable pics! I absolutely love the one with him perched on the fire - he looks so INTERESTED :-)

Date: 2023-12-19 02:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, I like that kind of snow. Slushy stuff not so much.
Kevin still loves to sit on the fire, though he's not fitting in the space as well now. It's amazing how fast he is growing.

Date: 2023-12-02 04:52 am (UTC)we had snow here too. i know what you mean about hating it when it's grey and cold — for me this year somehow it felt like a relief. i guess maybe because it was the one thing that happened at the time of year that it was supposed to happen. a little periodicity in the middle of a global meltdown feels like a kindness.
i hope the weather gets a little gentler for you though! and that murphy comes around on kevin. <333

That's a good way to think of it, grabbing onto the familiar when the world seems to be going off it's axis.
