Dec. 19th, 2023 02:50 pmJames bought me a heated throw last Christmas and I love it, and have pretty much used it in all the colder months since.
So, I decided to buy him one too as a surprise Christmas gift, and it was delivered weeks ago. This morning he went to work as usual and then later sent me a message saying, look what I've just bought myself, and it was a heated throw that was on special offer on Groupon.
This is why you don't buy yourself presents the week before Christmas >:(
I told him, and he's said sorry he didn't think, and we can just give this new one to my SiL as a birthday gift in January, but still, way to spoil a surprise.
On the theme of petty frustrations, I had the fastest bath ever last night. Just got the water done, bubble bar crumbled in, book ready, when I noticed Kayleigh had messaged asking if she could come over and do an ashes necklace. That had been sent 20 mins before and in that time she'd driven down with Lucy and Bodhi, so I had the fastest wash ever, pulled on my pjs and went to let them in.
Murphy has stopped letting Kevin push him around so much, and they now get into these situations where they're play fighting and Murphy gently bites the back of Kevin's neck. I researched, and apparently it's a common thing where one cat is trying to show dominance. They're not hurting each other, but it's still a bit alarming, the noises they make when they get into a tussle. But, they can be doing that one minute and the next they're lying down together or grooming each other.
They're both asleep right now, so I'm enjoying some peace after a morning where Kevin got tangled in the blinds behind the Christmas tree, and they both managed to pull down the star I have in the toilet window. I went in to find the star lying on the ground and the batteries and battery pack actually in the toilet. So, guess that star is out of action now.

Date: 2023-12-19 03:00 pm (UTC)I learned long ago, the toilet seat stays down unless it's in use. I generally don't have issues unless I have guests who leave it up.
At least your life is never dull with your kitties! They do quite a lovely job of keeping us entertained. *G*

I thought Murphy was a handful when he arrived. But compared to Kevin he was a saint! *g*

Date: 2023-12-19 11:16 pm (UTC)We used to call it bathfights with our kittens, once upon a time, because they'd either start out grooming each other and end up roughhousing, or they'd start out roughhousing and end up bathing :P never one without the other

Date: 2023-12-20 07:24 am (UTC)Bathfights fit so well. I've been thinking about it and how I've never seen the behaviour before, but Milo and Pansy were both older cats when we got Murphy -- especially Milo who was late teens at the time, so wouldn't entertain those kinds of fights. But Murphy is still only three, so yep, grooming always does turn into roughousing.

Date: 2023-12-20 12:34 pm (UTC)Oh, yikes about the bath! That seems to me the kind of thing you'd wait for a response on, or at least call instead of message. I'd have been annoyed to have to cut my bath short. (Then again, I hate when people just 'drop in'. No, please, I need to expect you for three days before you can come over. *g*)
Our dogs are very similar with the play-fighting. And I agree, the noises they make sound like they're actually trying to kill each other.

That's what I was thinking. We do most of our communicating via message, but in this case when I hadn't replied before they set out I would have expected a phone call, which I would have heard. I mean, I still would have been annoyed at having to cut short my bath, but I would have had more time than the rush I was in to let them in.
The noises as they play fight are terrible. It amazes me that they can be grooming each other and sleeping together one moment, they next rolling on the floor and yowling. It's very startling.

Date: 2023-12-22 07:39 pm (UTC)I feel for you! Having to cut short your lovely bath AND having unexpected visitors too. People really ought to know better than to just appear like that!!
Go Murphy for showing the upstart youngster who's boss! I can imagine they're sounding quite horrible when they're play fighting. Dogs certainly do - you would think they're trying to murder each other the way they're carrying on!
Sounds like Kevin's determined to liven up your life :-)

Date: 2023-12-23 04:22 pm (UTC)They really shouldn't have appeared like that. And in fact, Kayleigh did it again the next day except this time she messaged from her house before coming over. So, at least my bath wasn't cut as short, but was still not as long as I'd take usually.
Murphy and Kevin make some terrible noises when they're play fighting. I think Murphy is embracing being young now he's got someone who is also young to play with.
