I got James a new t-shirt for Christmas, he wore it Christmas day, and by the night had a bad reaction to what we assume is the glue that keeps on the front picture. It's happened once before but that time I thought it was just because it was a random cheapish t-shirt from Amazon, this one is from a company he's worn stuff from many times before so the reaction was a surprise.
He did see a doctor at work who said it was contact dermatitis and should go down within a few days, but it's been four now and while it's not as angry, is still spreading. So he just phoned to say he's got an appointment at the walk in clinic at 8 tonight. Hopefully, they'll prescribe something that will take the itch away as I must have heard that he's itchy a thousand times lately.
But man, there's always something.
Before Christmas, I ordered some wax melts and shower stuff, at a big discount, from a place I've used often. That parcel arrived this morning, and the shower gel lid hadn't been closed properly, so the box and packing peanuts are all coated. I've emailed them as while the melts and unicorn soap are fine due to being protected by bubble wrap, a lot of the shower gel is gone.
My dishwasher is acting up again, with power but no water. I've tried my usual tricks to get it going but no joy. It was second hand when I got it, so has done well to keep going as long as it has, especially as it was on multiple times a day over Christmas and Boxing Day. And really, out of all the white goods going off, I can cope without a dishwasher the best. But I do miss the convenience.
I got a lovely comment about Painted Ponies the other day, and after replying, I ended up reading the full story yesterday afternoon. It's been a while since I did so and man, I enjoyed it. Mikey Way the supermodel and the bodyguard who loves him still hits the spot. It was kind of sad to see the names of the people commenting, so many people who were a huge part of my bandom experience and have now gone onto pastures new. And some who are still around of course, either here or elsewhere.
But yeah, I do recommend reading your own stuff now and then.

Date: 2023-12-29 05:15 pm (UTC)It's always lovely to get a nice comment, but especially on older stories and favorites. Yes, I agree, it is good to read your own stories now and then. I occasionally surprise myself with certain lines or scenes I felt were particularly good. I'm glad you got the lovely comment on a favorite story! *G*

Date: 2023-12-29 05:58 pm (UTC)I don't actually mind washing dishes by hand, except for the drip tray from the air fryer. That isn't fun. But, I like the drying rack idea, much better than a cluttered sink.

Exactly! As I was reading I decided I would have recced myself I enjoyed the story so much.

Date: 2023-12-29 05:25 pm (UTC)Bummer about the new t-shirt causing a reaction. And weird that it's still spreading when he's not wearing the shirt.
What an annoyance about the spilled shower gel (and what a mess!) and dishwasher acting up. I've still got my fingers crossed on our dishwasher, which has lasted 25 years so far, because I was sure the maker of the home would've used crap. But it's been an inspiration, really! *pets dishwasher* I'm so proud of you! [The keep your appliances running version of 'knock wood', lol!]

Date: 2023-12-29 06:02 pm (UTC)It is weird the rash is spreading, but it's all the places that had been touched by the t-shirt so it had to be that. The doctor he saw said to wash the t-shirt in a hot wash and it should be okay to wear, but I don't know if James would risk it again.
Wow, that is an impressive age for your dishwasher. It's a cliché but I do think things made a while ago last longer than the things made now. When I get mine fixed, or a new one if needed, I'll have to try the petting thing *g*

Date: 2023-12-29 06:57 pm (UTC)Ohh no poor James, I hope it doesn’t get worse that sucks
Awww no that sounds so annoying!
I was looking at an old post on my archive of lj here and damn it made me sad cause so many people are just….. gone. It made me a bit sad

Date: 2023-12-31 08:02 am (UTC)Well, his rash isn't getting worse but not really much better yet. But, he does have steroid cream now, so hopefully, soon.
Yeah, so many people are gone. I loved bandom fandom so much back then, but now, I doubt it'll ever be the same. It can't, so much has changed.

Date: 2023-12-30 08:38 pm (UTC)Oh no, that totally sucks about the new t-shirt!! I hope they could prescripe him something that lessened the itching.
Ugh, opening that parcel can't have been fun. Shower gel is so sticky!
I guess it's back to washing your dishes by hand for you. It's totally doable of course but when you're used to to having a dishwasher it must feel quite dreary. (I'm so envious of my mum and the dishwasher in her new apartment!)
That's so nice you got a comment on such a beloved story! I don't write but I do like looking at the graphics I've made. It makes me feel proud of myself!

Date: 2023-12-31 07:59 am (UTC)James has got steroid cream now, so hopefully that will kick in soon as he's been pretty miserable. Not ill as such but really itchy with inflamed skin.
I knew something was up as soon as I opened the parcel due to the smell of mango, then yeah, sticky packing beans.
I don't mind washing most dishes by hand, it's the cooking stuff I want to put off. Especially anything that is greasy :(
You should be proud, you create lovely graphics. I'm glad you still enjoy them.

Date: 2023-12-30 09:20 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear my card arrived -- I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined posting things in good time!
I hope James was able to get some relief, that sounds horrible.

Date: 2023-12-31 07:55 am (UTC)I suspect Royal Mail are having issues again as I got a load of cards all at once. So, not you at all. Again, thank you! Hope you and your four foots enjoyed Christmas.
James has a steroid cream now. I'm hoping it kicks in soon and he gets some relief.

Date: 2023-12-31 06:50 am (UTC)poor James! I hope his horrid itching is eased soon. possibly washing the shirt several times will help - is it possible for him to wear it over another shirt, so it's not directly against his skin?
so sorry about your shower gel, and the dishwasher giving up on you!

Date: 2023-12-31 07:53 am (UTC)James now has steroid cream to try to ease the reaction. Hopefully, it does kick in soon because it was nasty. But yeah, I think washing the t-shirt multiple times or as a layer is the way to go.
The shower gel and dishwasher were both very annoying.

Date: 2023-12-31 02:37 pm (UTC)Poor James, contact dermatitis is horribly self-perpertuating once it's got to the itchy stage. Sometimes clothes can be kept somewhere they need to be treated for bugs, and that can then leave a residue that sets off a reaction, although if it's contained to where the picture is, that sounds less likely. A rinse with white vinegar (instead of fabric softener) can help with removing a lot of nonsense, but it would be understandable if he was just wary of ever wearing it again.

Date: 2023-12-31 04:39 pm (UTC)Sadly I suspect your theory about treatment for bugs could be right, as while it started where the picture is, it ended up spreading much further than that. It actually ended up looking really nasty and while the steroid cream he was given has started to help his skin is still a mess, not only on his chest and stomach but the creases of his arms and even patches on one leg.
Thanks for the white vinegar tip. I've actually got some of that and will give it a try as he did like the t-shirt. Though, I suspect he may be wary about trying it on again when it comes to it.

Date: 2024-01-01 12:15 pm (UTC)We finally have a dishwasher for the first time and still end up washing half our stuff by hand because we're vaguely nervous about what's okay. But it is very convenient!

Date: 2024-01-03 01:58 pm (UTC)Dishwashers are so convenient. I miss mine, not as much as a washing machine, that would be a disaster, but yeah, a new one would be nice. Glad you like yours.
