It's my SiL's birthday tomorrow, so yesterday we went out for a family meal. We went to the local Toby Carvery again, and it was good, but it always annoys me that you pay an extra £5 to eat on a Sunday, just because they add lamb as one of the meat options. I mean, I don't eat lamb, why should I pay extra? And I know, others things cause the increase too, but I like a grumble at times.
James is on annual leave this week, so we've been getting jobs done. Murphy was at vets this morning, he's fine with a clean bill of health, just a bit of a chunk at 6.5 kg. Then we went to visit Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi, then from there went to Newcastle as James had his annual checkup at the limb centre.
When James was off seeing the specialist I got talking to a man who was waiting to go home, we had a good chat, but I was amused as I was admiring his leg as it had an attachment I hadn't seen in person before, and he offered me his leg so I could have a hold to see how lightweight it was. And in things I didn't think I'd be doing today, holding a stranger's false leg was one.
From there James went to have a quick visit with his friend who's a patient at the same hospital while I had a much-needed coffee and a read of my book in the café.
Tomorrow we have a free day, so I suspect a cinema visit will happen. Wednesday I'm at the hospital at the biomechanics Dept, where I hope they'll agree I need shoe inserts for my left foot. Thursday, Kevin is at the vets for his first boosters and health check, then on the afternoon we're taking my MiL out. Friday, not sure yet, but James did want to sort out his craft room and build the work benches I bought him for Christmas.
Vets, hospitals, visits with Bodes. Same old, same old, really. If only it wasn't January, where we always attempt to do 'no eating out apart from family birthdays Jan', I could go to one of the cat cafés and call bingo *g*

Date: 2024-01-09 07:13 pm (UTC)So, was it the cinema today in your week of ticking off ALL THE THINGS? It sounds like a very satisfactory kind of way to use James' leave (as does holding a strangers leg :) - it great that he was so keen to share what it was like in reality)
Excellent news about Murphy, that's always a nice report to get from the vet.
Good luck with the biomechanics department - I hope it goes the way you want it

Date: 2024-01-10 09:21 am (UTC)It was the cinema yesterday! Kayleigh and Lucy had bought up restaurant vouchers for Christmas so we also went to Wagamama which was delicious. So it was a very indulgent day.
Yeah, that guy was great, and the ratchet system to attach his leg was very interesting.
Well, I got my days mixed up -- apparently it's not actually the 11th today. So, today we'll take out my MiL and it'll be hospital and vets again tomorrow.

Date: 2024-01-10 08:51 pm (UTC)That's so good to hear about Murphy!
Reading about your adventures with another man's leg made me laugh out loud!
Sounds like you're really using James' leave week to the full - all those appointments and outings!

Date: 2024-01-17 03:17 pm (UTC)Yeah, quite a few places do that. The Toby chain suggests it's because they add lamb to the meats on offer but personally, I think that's a ridiculous reason. I get the no meat option, and no way should it cost me £5 more on a Sunday than during the week.
That man at the limb centre was very friendly, but I never expected to get to hold his leg *g*
James' week off was full pretty much every day. I was glad of a rest by the end of it!
