James went back to work today after his week off. We managed to get everything, apart from one thing, done that we'd planned while he was off. So, I'll say that was a success.
Friday we took my MiL out, Saturday was down for sorting out the craft room, including building the work benches, and I have to say, I wasn't looking forward to it as I knew it would be a lot of hard and dusty work. But, it's done. As we wanted to put new shelves into the craft room cupboard, I also moved all my Hardy Boys books out of there, and put them onto the shelves in our bedroom. Which meant I had to get rid of some books from those shelves.
Let's just say between the original books, the Case Files and random crossovers with Nancy Drew I have a lot of Hardy Boys books, and many are still in a box. One of my next jobs is to sort them out and see which ones I need to fill some gaps. I know I could never get my hands on The Roaring River back in the day, but of course, back then, dinosaurs roamed the earth and online shopping wasn't so easy.
Yesterday I took all the books I was getting rid of to a localish book charity bin. Sadly, a lot of charity shops won't take books now, so at least using this bin I knew they'd be going to some place that would use them and not just get pulped.
Saturday night the reboot of Gladiators started and it was glorious. I watched for nostalgia reasons, as I always used to watch the original show with mam and Kayleigh, but kept watching because it was ridiculous fun. The same spirit of the original show, OTT, innuendos everywhere, but the games were much safer and the Gladiators themselves more inclusive, including the first deaf Gladiator. I'm looking forward to watching again, especially for Apollo.

Date: 2024-01-15 05:52 pm (UTC)I say craft room but it's the spare bedroom with the bed taken out and all James' wood work stuff put in. He calls it his studio, but I haven't gone that far yet *g*

Date: 2024-01-15 05:30 pm (UTC)I didn't realise charity shops don't always take books. We have an Oxfam bookshop here, so that problem is solved.

Date: 2024-01-15 05:55 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've tried to donate books locally in the past and had them refused which is a shame, especially as I actually buy books from there, so assume others do too. There's a good Oxfam bookshop in Durham but it's in the oldest part of town meaning no nearby parking, so not the best when you've a big bag of books to donate.

Date: 2024-01-15 10:54 pm (UTC)Yay for getting so much done!
Yeah, I'm bummed when I take my books in and I get the look that says they're just going to the trash. Especially since I take such good care of my books. It's painful.
I lol'd at your comment above about craft room vs studio. *g*

Date: 2024-01-16 07:57 am (UTC)It is painful. I look after my books too and if I had the space would keep them all. As I don't, I have to let some go and would always hope that they'd be put on sale for others who'd enjoy them. But I know that just doesn't happen at times. Thinking of them being pulped or thrown away is not good.
I swear, I want to laugh when James talks about going to his studio. It makes it sound like something it really is not! *g*

Date: 2024-01-17 07:40 pm (UTC)I'm sure you'll manage to fill those holes in your book collection once you start looking online. I know here in Sweden there are some excellent sites for finding old books. I think it's the same here, but luckily our recycling centre shop still welcomes books.
Awww, what a totally adorable pic!! They really enjoy that bed, don't they?!

Date: 2024-01-18 07:45 am (UTC)I'm feeling confident I will find any books I'm missing. Back when I was buying them I didn't really do online shopping, but like you said, now there are excellent sites to help find stuff all over. Of course, I need to sort all the books out first.
The bed is such a hit. I'm glad I didn't get rid of it after we lost Milo. I often think of him when the other two are crowded into the bed.

Date: 2024-01-18 07:51 am (UTC)I suspect the bins will route to a charity bookshop. It seems Oxfam are the stand out for charity bookshops. There's one in Durham that's amazing, but also, well away from any parking places which makes donating difficult.

Date: 2024-01-18 06:56 pm (UTC)I LOVED Gladiators. It was also eye-opening watching it as an adult with a lot of that innuendo because, hah, I was a pre-teen when it first aired and all of that went over my head. But no, I was completely gleeful watching it - I'm all hearteyes over Fury and Sabre. Viper - I swear he must have studied Wolf because he moved and his whole presence was just like him and I'm here for it. Legend might be one of my favourites and holy hell did you see the THIGHS on Giant? DAYUMN *grins*
AHEM.
I maaay have some fannish feels going on here.

Date: 2024-02-27 04:13 pm (UTC)I had such a crush on Joe Hardy when I was a young teen, and I really do think they cemented my love of h/c.

Weeks later and I'm still loving Gladiators so much! But now Legend is very much my favourite male Glad. He's obviously loving playing up his character and he just makes me laugh so much.
And yes, I have to agree, Giant's thighs are quite something!
