Feb. 5th, 2024 12:41 pmIt was a good mail day today. Thank you,
misbegotten, for the excellent card and recap. The recap made me smile all over again, the card is displayed on my desk :D Also, thank you,
turlough, for the card and present. The card is also displayed on my desk, the present is put away until my birthday. Thank you both so much ♥
It's Corey's birthday at the end of the week, mine a week after, so I'm trying to arrange a dinner with all the family, and man, yet again herding cats are the words. We're planning to go to an Italian restaurant we like at the beach, either this Saturday or Sunday, but finding a time and date that suits everyone is a bit complicated. Especially so as my MiL has just cancelled the cataract op she was supposed to have tomorrow, so I know she's not feeling well. Hopefully, she'll be feeling better by the weekend, but even if she's not, I know she'll still insist on going to the dinner. I could postpone, but it's not often Corey has a full weekend off.
Kevin helped himself to some rashers of raw bacon today and ate them. He's been checked and there's no physical reason he's such a gannet, but the vet thinks because he and his sibs were found at the side of a road when he was a kitten, he's got the mindset if there's food he has to eat it or go hungry. Which is great when you're using treats to make him take tablets, not so much when he's trying to snatch food.

This is a new love, but Gladiators was rebooted and started broadcasting a few weeks ago, and it's so much fun. Like, total cheese bound up in Lycra.
I started to watch for nostalgic reasons, as I loved the original show back in the day, and used to watch every week with mam and Kayleigh. But I've kept watching because this version is just ridiculous fun.
I like how the gladiators and contestants take it seriously, but not too seriously. There are so-called Gladiator villains, but even then it's more like a pantomime villain, especially Legend who cracks me up with his constant pouting.
I like that the games seem much safer and that for the most part, sportsmanship between the Glads and contestants is very apparent with them congratulating each other after each game. Well, apart from Legend and Viper, but again, they're leaning into pantomime.
I even laugh at the terrible acting in the dressing room shots that are on after some games.
I'm still getting to know all the Glads, but right now my favourites are Apollo and Fury, with a special mention to Legend, who just runs with his character role 100%. That's him in the second photo with Fury, so a candid shot shows he can exist without a pout on his face.

Also, Giant who does this thing when he sort of puffs up his back/side muscles and looks like a king cobra and I didn't even know muscles could do that!
So yeah, I'm loving new Gladiators and have I looked for fic? Maybe....

Date: 2024-02-05 05:40 pm (UTC)Apollo isn't... he isn't pretty enough to be Apollo and I pout about it every week. I also apparently have a thing for thighs, thanks to Legend and Giant *snorts*

Date: 2024-02-06 03:08 pm (UTC)Oh man, Giant is amazing! I didn't even know it was possible to have that much muscle. He also seems like a really nice guy too, which is such a good combination.

Date: 2024-02-06 06:57 pm (UTC)I also love Dynamite and Nitro, and wish more of the women got more character to play. Nitro being very fast but scared of heights stands out, and his dancing and enthusiasm is great.

Date: 2024-02-07 07:35 pm (UTC)All the good luck herding your cat relatives this weekend!
I'm relieved to hear Kevin escaped his bacon gluttony unharmed.
Sounds like a reboot that works for once, yay!

I couldn't believe it when I saw Kevin with the bacon rashers, he had a good breakfast that day.
It's an excellent reboot!

Date: 2024-02-13 01:52 pm (UTC)a food motivated cat can be interesting - most of the "training" type material assumes they won't be, terribly, as so many of them aren't, but if they've had a hard start.
I've not caught any of the new gladiators, but it does look like a fun show... and with you and

Date: 2024-02-13 03:15 pm (UTC)I've never had a cat as food motivated as Kevin. It made giving him his tablets easy, but he's terrible for tying to eat human food. He's learning that he's not actually allowed to snatch off plates etc, but it's taking time to do so.
Gladiators is so much fun, and I like how the Glads and contestants interact afterwards. It makes me smile each time I watch.
