Thank you, [personal profile] sperrywink, for the birthday card that arrived. When I saw it was a birthday card, I put it back in the envelope but will happily display next week ♥

It was Corey's birthday on Sunday, so we went to visit him at Newcastle and hung out at his flat for a couple of hours. As always , I got a photo taken of the two of us, but man, I will never show it online as James managed to take the most unflattering series of photos ever. Between the overhead harsh lighting and angle, we both look horrific and haggard.

Because Corey is a mole person and tends to be awake at night, we didn't go through until 4 in the afternoon, so after grocery shopping in the morning went to blow the cobwebs away at the beach, which was a nice combo of cold with a breeze, but not too cold.

It was nice to be somewhere when it wasn't raining, as on Friday it just didn't stop, and the toilet roof started leaking again. Thankfully, the ceiling remains bowed in one place but still intact, but it will need to be repaired eventually as every time heavy rain hits that side of the house the water is getting in.

Kayleigh, Lucy, and Bodhi called in to see me yesterday. Bodes had been to nursery and while she doesn't love it still, she doesn't dislike it as much so she's getting there. She came running in holding two chocolate crispie cakes she'd made saying they were for me and James and seemed very proud of herself. Plans are in motion for Kayleigh to buy a car seat for Bodhi for when we're on nursery picking up duty. It'll be strange to see as we didn't have a car when Corey was young enough to need a car seat.

We went to see Argyle at the cinema and I actually really enjoyed it. It had twists and turns I didn't expect, and I was entertained nicely.

James got a commission to make two dinos and two chicks with Kinder eggs, which are going to be sold for charity at the service station he goes to for his coffee each morning. He made and painted them, it was my job to wrap them in cellophane nicely. Let me say, it's much more difficult than it sounds. There's a chance he may get asked to make more, and if so, I'll be looking to buy some nice clear bags to use as packaging.

[personal profile] pensnest stated this I was recently reminded of a meme (the kind of meme that preceded photos with captions, ie a list of questions) I filled in about household stuff. Rereading it reminded me how American some of the questions seemed, so I thought I would have a go at creating a more British version.

I thought I'd give it and go, and Pen also suggested adding your own question at the end, so have done that too.

01 White bread, brown bread, wholemeal bread, granary bread, or something else?

I tend to buy wholemeal or the seedy kind. Can't tell you the brand as I usually buy at Company where the bread is usually deidentified and just comes in blue plastic packets.

02 How long have you had your kettle?

A long time, it's see through and used to light up but doesn't now, which is a shame. Not going to lie, being without a kettle would be terrible.

03 How many teapots do you own?

Erm, none. If I make tea, I plonk a teabag in a mug and call it done.

04 Do you own a device for making coffee?

Yep, quite a few in fact. I have a coffee pod machine, a jug kind, the kind you put on the stove top and a ridiculous amount of instant and packet coffees where you just add water.

05 Do you have fresh mushrooms in your fridge?

I do!

06 How many tins of tomatoes are there in your kitchen stores?

None in my fridge, but I have multiple cartons of tomatoes, chilli, and basil flavoured kind, that I got from Sainsbury's when they were selling them for 20p each. I've said before, but if it's cheap, I'll use it and have room to store I'll stock up big time, and I did with those.

07 Do you have a box of wine in your home?

I don't drink wine, so nope.

08 What kind(s) of mustard do you have?

None, because I don't usually eat it.

09 Name the One True Jam

There may be a random, very old jar of strawberry shoved in a cupboard. Again, it doesn't get eaten here.

10 What flavour(s) of squash or cordial (or other soft drinks) do you have in the house?

No sugar vimto, also some kiora orange juice.

11 Do you have fizzy drinks in the house, and are they in cans or bottles?

One bottle of diet coke which came home with me yesterday, also six bottles of fizzy no sugar pop we got from Company on Sunday. They're based on sweetie flavours so cherry lips, rhubarb and custard and pineapple cubes flavours. We did used to buy a ridiculous amount of Pepsi Max cans, but knocked that on the head.

12 Eggs: scrambled, fried, poached or boiled? Or something else?

I don't eat eggs that often, but it tends to be scrambled at home, but if I'm out will get poached as I've never managed to master poaching an egg.

13 Is your hob gas or electric?

Gas.

14 Are there dirty plates, cutlery etc in your kitchen sink?

Right at this moment, nope, I set the dishwasher away earlier.

15 Fairy, Finish or supermarket's own?

Finish if I have to buy. But, I do a lot of product testing and for some reason get a load of dishwashing tablets to try, so often it's deidentified ones that are being tested before going onto the market.

16 Is there anything mouldy in your fridge?

No, not after whirlwind Corey went through the whole fridge at Christmas.

17 Which supermarket(s) do you shop at?

My main shop is Company. It's a membership shop where stock that hasn't sold for any reason, over stocking, product just didn't take off etc is sold cheaper than usual. Because of that you never know what they'll have, and usually it's impossible to get everything I need, so I'll also go to all the other supermarkets depending on the offers they have going. I'm not brand loyal in the slightest.

18 Do you buy food from not-supermarkets?

Not really, I'll occasionally buy from the fruit and vegetable stall at Sunderland, but that's once in a blue moon.

19 How old is your home?

It was built in the 1970s, so around 50ish.

20 What would you change about your living room, if you could?

I'd like it to be bigger, it's a long but quite narrow room and the couch takes up a lot of space.

21 What colour is your sofa?

Brown.

22 Do you own a pouffe?

Nope, which is a shame as the storage type are quite useful.

23 Do you organise your wardrobe, and if so, how?

Ahahaha, no.

24 Do you own any nifty devices for efficient storage, and if so, are they indeed efficient?

I lost cupboard space when I changed the kitchen, so have a storage rack that hangs over the kitchen door that is quite useful.

25 If you have a loft, is it fully insulated?

I do, and yes, but the roof is so low you can't actually get into or stand up in it, so it's useless for storage.

26 Curtains or blinds?

Curtains on every window, plus blinds on all the rooms but my bedroom, as I like to see out at night.

27 How often do you vacuum?

Every day, such is life with cats.

28 Do you have a welcome mat at the front door?

Nope, and never have. Which is probably why I have to clean the floor in the hallway so often.

29 What is the oldest object you own?

I've got a vase from my great great grandma. It's tucked away in a cupboard as I wouldn't dare use it.

30 Do you own any Art, or just pictures?

Just prints of various things.

31 Do you have a home office?

No, but James has a craft room. I keep the door shut and try not to think of the mess in there.

32 Do you have any fannish objects on display in your home?

I do. On my desk I have the Danger Days ray gun and box, Musketeer prints and Musketeer cats, I have multiple Funkos from Marvel and Game of Thrones, various Groots, Nsync bobble heads and marionettes upstairs, a Seven of Nine print, a signed Voyager convention poster and various autographed prints, Mikey's mask on the fireplace, I use a Magic Mike XXL mug, erm, have a couple of Gollum figures, and no doubt other stuff I'm forgetting right now.

33 How many books do you own (an approximation will do)?

Two full bookcases in my bedroom and various piles. I keep telling myself not to buy more, but I was in a charity shop at the weekend and saw a book I wanted to read. But the offer was five books for £1, so that was five more to add to the 'to read pile' So, the telling myself not to buy more doesn't tend to go well.

34 How many radiators are there in your home?

7, one in each room and the hallway.

35 What kind of temperature do you like to keep your home at?

I'm happy around 18c, but it doesn't tend to get that high very often as we only have the heating on for a few hours morning and night. Oodies and electric blankets are a must here over winter.

36 Do you have any functional fireplaces in your home?

Nope. And if I tried to install one where I have the electric fire I'd end up in my next-door neighbour's hallway.

37 How many (living) plants are there inside your home?

Three Christmas cactus and about thirty cat friendly succulents. Sainsbury's were selling them for 1p each last year and I came home with loads of the things. Now the kitchen window, bathroom, and toilet windowsills all have rows of succulents on them.

38 Do you garden?

I do, I enjoy it but don't class myself as a pro.

39 If you have a garage, can you fit your vehicle(s) into it?

I do. It belongs to the council and isn't attached to the house, so it's about a minute walk away. Even if it wasn't full of old furniture from mam's, our car still wouldn't fit in it, so it's used for storage now.

40 Do you have a charging point for an electric vehicle?

No, there's no road outside my house, so it would be pointless to fit one.

41 Have you ever gone to an amateur theatre show?

No.

42 Have you ever been to watch a football match?

Nope. Best I can offer here is watching Corey play rugby when he was in a team.

And for my added question.

43: Do you have any crisps in the house?

I do not. Though now I'm thinking about them, I could just eat some pickled onion Monster Munch. Crisps of champions!

Yay for being able to see Corey and Bodhi!

That's neat that James was asked to make those. Are Kinder eggs candy?

I've seen the brand here, but not sure if it was merely a candy bar or the eggs. So he made candy creatures?!! Some lucky winner!

A belated happy birthday to Corey! Now I want to see those photos just so I can determine exactly how awful they are ;-D

All that rain sounds very dreary, even without the leak.

Those dinos and chicks sound fun! Check online hobby/craft shops. At least here in Sweden you can buy cellophane bags in different sizes from them.

Not even one teapot?! I'm shocked and appalled! You heathen!!

So many fun fannish things!!
